RZA Talks THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS In This New Featurette

Check out the first is a series of featurettes chronicling the characters and story of THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS. In this clip, RZA discusses the impact martial arts movies had on childhood, his mentorship under Quentin Tarantino, and how “The Man With The Iron Fists” is his biggest accomplishment to date.

Quentin Tarantino presents THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS, an action-adventure inspired by kung-fu classics as interpreted by his longtime collaborators RZA and Eli Roth.  Making his debut as a big-screen director, co-writer and leading man, RZA – alongside an exciting international cast led by Russell Crowe and Lucy Liu – tells the epic story of warriors, assassins and a lone outsider hero who all descend on one fabled village in China for a winner-takes-all battle for a fortune in gold.

Blending astonishing martial-arts sequences from some of the masters of this world with the signature vision he brings as the leader of the Wu-Tang Clan and as one of hip-hop’s most dominant figures of the past two decades, RZA embarks upon his most ambitious, stylized and thrilling project to date.

Joining Crowe, RZA and Liu in the cast are Rick Yune, Jamie Chung, Cung Le, Dave Bautista, Byron Mann, Daniel Wu and Pam Grier.

THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS will be in theatres, November 2nd. – “You can’t spell Kung Fu, without the F U.”

NYCC 12: Saturday & Sunday Recap

Shockingly, I arrived for my second day at NYCC with enough time to walk around the convention a bit before my first & only scheduled interview for the weekend. I didn’t mention it in yesterday’s coverage because I wanted it to be a surprise but one of the reasons I headed home early after NYCC yesterday was to watch THE BAY. Why did I need to see this flick you may ask? Because my roundtable today was with the legendary Barry Levinson, director of THE BAY as well as some other flicks you might have heard of like RAIN MAN, DINER, and SPHERE. Speaking with him was an incredible experience and I will have a full recap of the roundtable posted soon.

At the roundtable I ran into Mike Spring of DVDSnapshot.com, who I first met at the convention a few years back. We chatted for a bit before I once again made my way to the show floor. Seeing the massive wait at the IGN theater and the general overcrowding of NYCC, I decided it would be best to skip the panels since they were going to be live-streamed anyway for anyone interested in checking them out. I also assumed they would be made available afterwards although that seems not to be the case, at least not officially.

While passing the Magnet Releasing booth, I saw that director Glenn McQuaid was signing posters for VHS. I stuck around for a few minutes to get a really quick interview, which you can check out right here:

After some more aimless roaming of the overcrowded show floor, I stopped by the Archaia Comics booth to say hi to our good friend Dan Fogler (FANBOYS, BALLS OF FURY). We talked about setting up an interview in about 2 weeks to discuss DON PEYOTE, as well as a plethora of other projects he is working on.

My Sunday at NYCC consisted of more of the same; navigating my way through waves of costumed fans eager to throw down hard-earned cash. The one exception being the hour or so I sat down for a panel. My first and only for this year was an impromptu panel hosted by Sean Astin, which was created last minute thanks to a petition he himself started. He was one of those people with a decent-sized line of fans waiting to meet him the past three days in the autograph area.

Watching Sean Astin take command of the whole room, telling incredibly detailed and personal stories about his entire career, I gained a newfound respect for the man. Unfortunately the panel ran long and I was unable to interview him afterwards as I had discussed with whoever was assisting him for the day. Shortly after, security began their “hard close” of the convention and I was yelled at for not exiting promptly.

Relativity Media has sent over these official first look images from PARANOIA, starring Liam Hemsworth, Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford.

In this high-stakes thriller, Adam Cassidy (Liam Hemsworth) is a regular guy trying to get ahead in his entry-level job at Wyatt Corporation. But after one costly mistake, Adam’s ruthless CEO, Nicholas Wyatt (Gary Oldman), forces him to spy on corporate rival, Jock Goddard (Harrison Ford), Wyatt’s old mentor. Adam soon finds himself occupying the corner office and living the life he only dreamed of. However, behind the scenes, he is simply a pawn in Wyatt’s corporate game and realizes he must ultimately find a way out from under his boss who will stop at nothing, even murder, to win a multi-billion dollar advantage.

Harrison Ford and Liam Hemsworth star in Relativity Media’s PARANOIA.

Written by Jason Dean Hall (SPREAD) from a previous draft by Barry Levy (VANTAGE POINT) and based on the book by Joseph Finder, PARANOIA is from director Robert Luketic (21, LEGALLY BLONDE, KILLERS). I really like this guy’s films – looking forward to the first trailer and some scenes between Oldman and Ford.

SEPTEMBER MUST HAVE BOX – REVEALED!

It’s officially Fall, so I’m checking out the indie darling of film festivals and curling up with a good book. My favorite item in the September box is the perfect scarf. Wrap yourself up in it to look cute and stay warm as temperatures drop, though we’re not quite ready to say goodbye to that Summer skin glow. Back to school for my girls means having to be organized with endless to-do lists and getting dinner on the table, while still sneaking in a sweet treat for myself. We have you covered on all fronts, so we hope you love our September Must Have box!

Must Have Fashion

Brokedown Scarf

Simply put, we’re obsessed with this scarf. From the moment we first touched the luxuriously soft Brokedown scarf, we knew we wanted to send it to you, but we needed to wait for the perfect month: September. It’s getting cooler outside and Fall fashion is on our minds — this will definitely become your must-have accessory. This color will go with anything in your wardrobe, be it a t-shirt and jeans or a preppy dress for heading to work. Stars such as Vanessa Hudgens and Jessica Alba have been spotted wearing their Brokedown scarves all around Hollywood. Wrap yourself up in it — we love it and we know you will, too.

Must Have Entertainment

The Perks of Being a Wallflower Movie Tickets and Book

One of BuzzSugar’s most anticipated movies of the season is The Perks of Being a Wallflower, so we are especially excited to be able to give you two tickets to see it in the theaters and the book it’s based on! “The Perks of Being a Wallflower is one of my favorite books and beloved to so many people who can relate to the coming-of-age tale,” says BuzzSugar’s Shannon Vestal. “Now it’s become a movie, but fans of the book need not fear — author Stephen Chbosky wrote the screenplay and directed the adaptation, so it’s a loyally translated work that’s both charming and bittersweet. It’s also a showcase for moving performances from stars Emma Watson and Logan Lerman.” We’re thrilled to share both the book and movie with you. Plus, check out BuzzSugar’s review!

Must Have Home

Rifle Paper Co.’s Lined Notepad

September means back to school and back to the world of to-do lists, jotting down important reminders, and just trying to keep everything organized. The tongue-in-cheek design of this notepad makes us smile while also helping us to keep our lives together. Some of us may be beyond the days of three-ring binders and spiral notebooks, but a little bit of nostalgia always puts a smile on our face — and this notepad does just that.

Must Have Beauty

Benefit Cabana Glama

Hang on to that last bit of Summer tan with Benefit’s Cabana Glama combination set. This collection features bronzing powder with a brush, foundation, lip and cheek stains, and a matching eyeshadow palette with an applicator. The size is ideal to pop into any makeup bag and bring on the go to achieve that sun-kissed glow at any moment. We’re longtime fans of Benefit, which was founded in SF just like PopSugar was, and is known for a wide range of great products that don’t just hide behind that famously cheeky packaging.

Must Have Food

Pop-Up Pantry Dinners

“After a long day of work running around between meetings, cooking can seem like the last thing I want to do, and resorting to takeout night after night makes me feel guilty,” says our VP of Content Molly Goodson. “When my old friend David launched his new company, Pop-Up Pantry, I knew he was onto something.” For the price of takeout, a delicious three-course meal will be delivered to your home anywhere in the country. They’re working with top chefs to prepare the restaurant-quality dinners that are catered to your tastes. Gourmet dinner, without the fuss — sounds like a winning combination.

Must Have Food

Becky’s Blissful Bakery Caramels

Bite into a little bit of happiness with these melt-in-your-mouth caramels. When these Becky’s Blissful Bakery caramels were first sent to our office, the YumSugar team had to hide them from the rest of the editors, so we wouldn’t snag them all before they had a chance. They’re the perfect treat. They’re gluten-free, handcrafted, and contain no artificial ingredients. Enjoy your moment of bliss today!

Special Extras

Kitsch Hair Ties

Who ever thought that your hair tie would become a regular part of your arm’s bracelet party? Gone are the days of boring old elastics, thanks to these Kitsch hair ties. Beyond just looking cute, they won’t pull your hair or leave dents or creases in your ‘do. You can find these hair ties on wrists and in ponytails all over the Sugar offices!

Yes to Cucumbers Hypoallergenic Towelettes

These towelettes are made from organic cucumber and aloe vera, so they are totally refreshing and easy on your skin. They remove makeup and won’t clog pores. Plus, they’re amazing for travel — no liquids to worry about — or to freshen up after a workout!

$25 Gift Certificate to Tracie Martyn Skin Care Line

Tracie Martyn has been getting the A-list ready for the biggest red-carpet events in the world and looking gorgeous day to day for years. The facialist to the stars with the celebrity following can work magic. Lisa Sugar says, “Tracie’s purifying cleanser and firming serum are a winning combination.”

Food Should Taste Good Sweet Potato Chips

Food should taste good, and it does thanks to this brand’s line of chips and crackers. We love snacking on the sweet potato variety, which now also comes in a variety of flavors. Dip these in your favorite hummus or salsa, or just enjoy them on their own. They’re always made from real, simple ingredients too.

Our Must Have Pouch

As an extra treat, we made this cute coin purse to hold all the important items you need — money, makeup, credit cards, keys, even your phone. Slip this pouch inside your bag and never lose track of your most valuable must haves. It’s so easy to transfer from your work to play bags. Plus, the leather won’t stretch or get damaged by water. Grab it and go!

NYCC 12: Friday Recap

My first day at NYCC started off a little later than expected due to some more work on http://NJGetOFF.com. After being told to go in the wrong entrance by several different yellow shirts, I finally made my way to the press check-in area on the other end of the convention. It was one tiny little section amidst the exhibitor & professional registration.

I picked up my badge & made my way over to the autographing area since it was in a new spot this year. Once again, there were lines that seemed to go on forever & tables with no wait at all. I liked the individual booths they had last year for some of the people that would stick around the whole weekend, like Brian O’Halloran but I didn’t see any of those this time. After snapping a few (dozen) photos of the autographing area, variant stages & Quidditch match (yes, Quidditch!), I made my way to the show floor.

I was too late for the major panels I hoped to attend, namely Kevin Smith Presents Comic Book Men live, so I decided to just spend a few hours walking the show floor. I hit up every booth I had set out to visit but was disappointed to see a continuing trend from last year had been repeated; very few cinema-related booths. Aside from Legendary, Magnet, IFC Midnight, Glass Eye Pix & of course, Troma, there were no other booths for any film studios. And of all those booths, the only major studio was Legendary although they were also promoting Legendary comics. I did later come across one for the film IRON SKY but After Dark Films & Anchor Bay were sadly missing in action. I always thought it was strange that films that have panels often do not have any booth representing them for the full weekend and that was especially disappointing this year, if only because I want some cool EVIL DEAD swag.

Wandering the show floor, another thing was immediately apparent; this year was even bigger than last. All 4 days were sold out prior to the convention. There was no on-site ticket purchasing & those numbers were well-reflected inside where it was damn near impossible to navigate some of the aisles. This was also reflected in the cell phone dead zone the convention center has become. The costumes were also been impressive this year although there hasn’t been too many that totally blew me away yet. This one did seem pretty out of place though…

I only have one interview lined up for tomorrow & a few panels I would like to attend but I’ll see if I can get a few more surprises to cover. For now, I’ll leave you with a quick message from Lloyd Kaufman about how you can watch hundreds of movies for free!

Watch Chloe Grace Moretz In CARRIE Teaser Trailer

Here’s your first look at CARRIE in the new, unnerving trailer. Director Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry; Stop-Loss) reimagines Stephen King’s best-selling novel for MGM and Screen Gems’ take on the enduring genre classic. Starring Chloe Grace Moretz (Hugo), four time Oscar-nominee Julianne Moore (Crazy, Stupid, Love; The Kids are Alright) and Judy Greer (The Descendants), CARRIE tells the supernatural tale of a telekinetic teenage girl tormented by her peers. Before the film opens in March, watch Brian De Palma’s 1976 film version of CARRIE. His movie earned Oscar nominations for stars Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie.

The quiet suburb of Chamberlain, Maine is home to the deeply religious and conservative Margaret White (Moore) and her daughter Carrie (Moretz). Carrie is a sweet but meek outcast whom Margaret has sheltered from society. Gym teacher Miss Desjardin (Greer) tries in vain to protect Carrie from local mean girls led by the popular and haughty Chris Hargenson (Portia Doubleday, Youth in Revolt), but only Chris’ best friend, Sue Snell (Gabriella Wilde, The Three Musketeers), regrets their actions. In an effort to make amends, Sue asks her boyfriend, high school heartthrob Tommy Ross (newcomer Ansel Elgort), to take Carrie to prom. Pushed to the limit by her peers at the dance, Carrie unleashes telekinetic havoc.

MGM and Screen Gems’ CARRIE is directed by Kimberly Peirce and produced by Kevin Misher (Public Enemies). J. Miles Dale (The Vow) serves as executive producer and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Big Love) wrote the script from King’s original story. CARRIE’s creative team includes Director of Photography Steve Yedlin (Looper), Production Designer Carol Spier (Eastern Promises), Costume Designer Luis Sequeira (The Thing) and Editor Lee Percy (Boys Don’t Cry).

CARRIE will be in theaters March 15, 2013.

TV’s “Breaking Bad” Star, Aaron Paul, Cast In DreamWorks Studios’ NEED FOR SPEED

Two-time Emmy winner for his breakthrough performance on the television series “Breaking Bad,” Aaron Paul has been cast to play the lead in DreamWorks Studios action film NEED FOR SPEED. Paul’s other credits include “Smashed,” “The Last House on the Left,” “Mission: Impossible III,” and HBO’s “Big Love.”

DreamWorks acquired the feature film rights to EA’s popular video game franchise earlier this year. George Gatins and John Gatins developed the original story with George writing the feature’s screenplay. The screenplay is based on the “Need for Speed” series, but is not based on an individual game. Produced by John Gatins, Mark Sourian and EA’s Patrick O’Brien, the film adaptation will be a fast-paced, high-octane film rooted in the tradition of the great car culture films of the 70s while being extremely faithful to the spirit of the video game franchise. In “Need for Speed,” the cars are hot, the racing is intense and the story keeps players at the edge of their seat.

Scott Waugh (ACT OF VALOR) is attached to direct, and the project has a target production start date for early next year and a theatrical release on February 7, 2014.

“Need for Speed” is one of the biggest and most successful franchises in the video game industry, having sold more than 150 million units worldwide and generating an estimated $4 billion in revenue. The next blockbuster release in the series is “Need for Speed Most Wanted” – the most socially-connected game of this generation, launching October 30, 2012.
