Written and directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Peter Farrelly (Green Book), I PLAY ROCKY is the true story of how the iconic boxing film ROCKY was made. The film will enter the ring in time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the ten-time Oscar nominated and Best Picture winning ROCKY.
Anthony Ippolito stars as the young Sylvester Stallone, alongside AnnaSophia Robb, Matt Dillon, Stephan James, Toby Kebbell, Tracy Letts, Jay Duplass and P.J. Byrne.
The film is an electrifying true story about an unknown actor with an unshakable belief that he wasn’t just meant to write Rocky—he was meant to be Rocky Balboa. Told “no” at every turn, Stallone bets everything on himself, holding the line on playing the lead against seemingly impossible odds.
The result is the ultimate underdog story behind the ultimate underdog movie.
Going up against films like Network and Taxi Driver, ROCKY won Best Picture, Best Director and Best Editing at the 49th Academy Awards. Sylvester Stallone became the third person in Oscar history to be nominated in a single year as both an actor and as a screenwriter (the others were Charles Chaplin in 1940 and Orson Welles in 1941).
ROCKY is one of the greatest stories in Hollywood History and has one of the most iconic scores from composer Bill Conti.
I PLAY ROCKY opens in the US on November 13 and released by Entertainment Film Distributors in cinemas, UK and Ireland, on November 6th, 2026.

“Roxanne!” Okay we’re really only in this for Eddie Murphy! Let’s put this into a little context – for those who may not know the origins of this iconic scene in 48 HOURS as Murphy belts out The Police’s song, have a look below.
Shrek 5 is directed by acclaimed filmmakers and Shrek franchise veterans Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn. Vernon was a member of the directing team on the Academy Award® nominated Shrek 2 as well as on DreamWorks Animation’s Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted and Monsters vs. Aliens. Vernon has also provided the voice of Shrek fan-favorite Gingerbread Man, aka “Gingy,” across all titles in the Shrek Universe. Dohrn worked on the second and third Shrek films as a writer and artist and as Head of Story on the fourth film. Dohrn also voiced the character of Rumpelstiltskin in Shrek Forever After. Dohrn served as co-director on the first Trolls film and directed Trolls World Tour and Trolls Band Together.
The film is produced by returning producer Gina Shay (Trolls franchise), who produced Shrek Forever After and by Illumination CEO and Academy Award® nominee Chris Meledandri (the Super Mario, Despicable Me and Minions franchises). The film is co-directed by Brad Ableson (Minions: The Rise of Gru, The Simpsons).
For the past two decades, audiences have been enchanted by the delightful, irreverent adventures of a misunderstood ogre and his ragtag group of roguish fairytale folk, based on the book by acclaimed author William Steig. About Superman, Supergirl and Krypto
Created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, Superman changed the world of pop culture when he debuted in DC’s iconic comic book Action Comics #1 on April 18, 1938. Since his debut, Superman has stood as an international symbol of hope, strength, and kindness to inspire people across generations throughout film, TV, animation, comics, and more.
Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl, is one of the last survivors of Krypton, sent to Earth as a young girl. The Girl of Steel possesses all of Superman’s powers, from superhuman strength, speed and invulnerability all the way down to his flight and enhanced senses.
Krypto the Superdog is Superman’s loyal companion, a Kryptonian dog with super strength, speed, and senses. He may not always be the most disciplined of sidekicks, but Krypto has long served Superman and Supergirl as a loyal companion, while coming to the aid of anyone in need of a helping paw.
John Travolta will make his directorial debut with PROPELLER ONE-WAY NIGHT COACH. The film will have it’s World Premiere at the 79th Cannes International Film Festival.
Following its premiere, Propeller One-Way Night Coach will make its global debut on Apple TV on May 29, 2026.
Nearly 30 years ago, this passion led him to write and illustrate a book for all ages for his son. Inspired by John Travolta’s childhood memories, from his first airplane flight to the unforgettable people and stories he has collected over the years, the story unfolds as a nostalgic journey set in the golden age of aviation.
Young airplane enthusiast Jeff (played by newcomer Clark Shotwell) and his mother (Kelly Eviston-Quinnett) set off on a one-way cross country odyssey to Hollywood, which transforms a simple flight into the trip of a lifetime. Between airline meals, charming flight attendants (played by Ella Bleu Travolta and Olga Hoffmann), unexpected stopovers, larger-than-life passengers, and a thrilling glimpse at first class, the journey unfolds in moments both magical and unexpected, charting the course for the boy’s future.
With three films that were presented at the Festival de Cannes, Pulp Fiction (1994) and She’s So Lovely (1997) in Competition, and Primary Colors (1998) Out of Competition, a Palme d’Or, two time Academy Award nominee and three time Golden Globe and Emmy winner, John Travolta has established himself as an iconic figure in pop culture, thanks to cult classics such as Saturday Night Fever (1977), Grease (1978), Blow Out (1981) and Hairspray (2007).
Alongside an eclectic filmography of more than 70 films spanning half a century, the 72-year-old actor has a long-standing passion: aviation. As a child, he loved watching planes take off from New York’s LaGuardia Airport, near his home. He began flying at just 15 years old, obtained his first pilot’s license at 22, and has since earned numerous certifications: John Travolta is certified to fly Boeing 707s, 737s, and 747s, Bombardier’s Global Express and was the first private pilot to fly an Airbus A380. With over 9,000 flight hours under his belt, the actor has also owned several aircraft for many years and even flew planes in two movies: Look Who’s Talking (1989) and Broken Arrow (1996).
One of the profound memories of my childhood is of my parents picking my sister and I up from summer sleepaway camp in August of 1977. My mother was crying. Not because she was happy to see us after 2 weeks, but because she had just heard on the car radio that Elvis Presley had died. Elvis meant so much to so many people – not only the baby-boom generation (my parents), but also their kids, the Gen-Xers. Even if you didn’t know all of Elvis’s catalog of songs, you knew who he was and why he was dubbed “The King.”
In EPiC: ELVIS PRESLEY IN CONCERT, director Baz Luhrmann takes us back, to remind us why Elvis was and is rock and roll royalty and the ultimate pop-culture touchstone.
From director Baz Luhrmann:
During the making of Elvis (2022), we went on a search for rumored unseen footage from the iconic1970s concert films Elvis: That’s the Way It Is and Elvis on Tour that had reportedly been lost.
Throughout this incredibly detailed process, one of the great finds has been unheard recordings of Elvis talking about his life and his music: from the 1970 Vegas show, on tour in 1972 and even precious moments of the 1957 “goldjacket” performance in Hawaii. I knew that we could not pass up this opportunity. It was these discoveries that gave the inspiration for the new film.
What if, instead of reduxing the previous works, we made a film that wasn’t a documentary and wasn’t a concert film? What if Elvis came to you in a dreamscape, almost like a cinematic poem, and sang to you and told you his story in a way in which you haven’t experienced before?
We asked the what ifs and answered them in what we are about to present at Toronto International Film Festivals’s 50th Edition- EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert, Elvis sings and tells his story like never before. Elvis takes the audience through the journey of his life, through both classic and contemporary musical prisms, weaving unseen footage with iconic performances that have never been presented in this.
EPiC Elvis takes the audience through the journey of his life, through both classic and contemporary musical prisms, weaving unseen footage with iconic performances that have never been presented in this way. EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert is a leap of the musical imagination and a tribute to one of the greatest performers of all time.
EPiC: ELVIS PRESLEY IN CONCERT plays one week IMAX EXCLUSIVE Starting February 20 and in cinemas worldwide February 27.
The Academy of Motion Pictures Museum in Los Angeles held a preview for their new exhibit, JAWS: The Exhibition, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the movie that has long been considered the first cinematic “blockbuster.” The one that started it all.
Directed by Oscar® winner Steven Spielberg, JAWS set the standard for edge-of-your-seat suspense, quickly becoming a cultural phenomenon and forever changing the movie industry 50 years ago on June 20, 1975. When the seaside community of Amity Island finds itself under attack by a dangerous great white shark, the town’s chief of police (Roy Scheider), a young marine biologist (Richard Dreyfuss), and a grizzled shark hunter (Robert Shaw) embark on a desperate quest to destroy the beast before it strikes again. Featuring John Williams’s unforgettable, pulse-racing score, Jaws, now five decades later, remains one of the most influential and gripping adventures in motion picture history.
Jaws: The Exhibition is the museum’s first large-scale exhibition dedicated to a single film, and the largest exhibition ever mounted showcasing Universal Pictures’ landmark summer blockbuster, which earned three Academy Awards® and was nominated for Best Picture. The exhibition celebrates the 50th anniversary of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws (1975) and will remain on view through July 26, 2026. The Academy Museum has also announced that in 2028, it will honor the legacy of Steven Spielberg and mount the first-ever retrospective exhibition dedicated to Spielberg’s era-defining career, providing visitors with insight into his creative process and bringing them closer than ever to his filmography.
The press members were treated to a full orchestra performing the iconic John Williams score from the movie, accompanied by clips and images from the film on the big screen. And I must say, it was rather glorious. And that wasn’t even the best part. The man responsible for literally ALL of this, Steven Spielberg, was there to welcome us and officially open the exhibit.
“This exhibition is awesome,” said Spielberg. “Every room has the minutiae of how this picture came together and it proves how this motion picture industry is really, truly a collaborative art form. This is an art form that only survives by getting the best people in all the right positions. I am so proud to be part of it . . . and people have a chance between now and July to come here to the Academy Museum and live it for the first time.”
His remarks included funny stories about the production, and where he feared his career would end up if this little film of his flopped. It was endearing to say the least and made it all the more exciting to get to the exhibit and check out all the cool stuff. And it was VERY cool!
Who can forget the menacing baritone piano keys that are forever burned into the lexicon of American pop culture – the 2 notes that strike fear into anyone that has ever swam in the ocean. This fantastic exhibit has something for everyone – from interactive experiences to original props and photos for even the most die-hard fans of the movie.
Featuring more than 200 original objects and behind-the-scenes stories, the exhibit is the largest ever organized about Steven Spielberg’s JAWS. Items that have never been on display before, including ones from the personal collections of Steven Spielberg and AMBLIN, are displayed in a multi-gallery experience for all ages.
Fans of the film who live in or are visiting LA should not miss this exciting exhibit, which again will be on display until July 2026. A must see!
The exhibition follows the film’s narrative, taking visitors from the opening credits to the film’s gripping conclusion. Expanding on the three-act structure of the film, the story is told in six sections: “The Unseen Danger,” “Amity Island Welcomes You,” “Sunday at the Beach,” “The Shark’s Rampage,” “Adventure Ahead,” and “Into the Deep.” A seventh, concluding gallery explores the enduring impact of the film.
The exhibition includes:
– Behind-the-scenes photos of Spielberg on set, the construction of the mechanical shark used in production, location scouting, and the cast and crew during filming, as well as Super 8 foot-age shot by Steven Spielberg during the making of Jaws
– Handwritten and hand-sketched materials, including Steven Spielberg’s annotated script, storyboards and original concept illustrations of the shark by production designer Joe Alves, composer John Williams’s sheet music, and sketches of a shark rising from the depths by the artist behind the iconic Jaws poster image, Roger Kastel
– Filming and editing equipment, including the Moviola machine used by the film’s editor Verna Fields, the original Jaws clapper board from the collection of Steven Spielberg, and the Panavision Underwater Camera used to shoot key scenes
– Original props, including the prop head of Ben Gardner used for the film’s indelible “jump scare,” Quint’s fighting chair and the shark weathervane from his shack, Hooper’s shark cage, components of the Orca, and the “Beach Closed” sign
– Recreations of the “Amity Island Welcomes You” billboards, orange and white striped beach cabanas, and the shark chalkboard drawing featured during Quint’s introduction (remade for the Academy Museum by production designer Joe Alves)
Exhibition Photography for JAWS: The Exhibition, on Sunday, September 7, 2025 at the The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles.
– Promotional items, from original theatrical release posters from around the world to innovative merchandise such as the Jaws “Feeding Time” cereal box, iron-on patches, toys, accessories and even products from Universal theme parks around the globe
– Interactives, including opportunities to recreate the film’s dolly zoom effect, play John Williams’s two-note score that signals the shark’s approach, and operate a scale replica of the mechanical shark
The Academy Museum Store will launch an exclusive line of Jaws-inspired merchandise, including a commemorative 50th anniversary vinyl pressing of John Williams’s Oscar-winning film score in collaboration with Mondo, an exclusive 1975 variant screen printed poster, a Jaws Amity Island ringer tee, Jaws hoodie, “The Game of Jaws” 50th anniversary edition, and Jaws Amity Island billboard scaled prop replica.
Jaws: The Exhibition will be the museum’s fifth large-scale exhibition in its Marilyn and Jeffrey Katzenberg Gallery, following Hayao Miyazaki (2021–22), Regeneration: Black Cinema 1898–1971 (2022–23), John Waters: Pope of Trash (2023–24), and Color in Motion: Chromatic Explorations of Cinema . The exhibition’s advisory group comprises ocean conservationist and marine policy advocate Wendy Benchley; Associate Professor in the Division of Cinema and Media Studies at USC J.D. Connor; sound mixer Peter J. Devlin; and editor Terilyn A. Shropshire.
“Look at all of you…it really is magical, isn’t it?” – John Williams
Beginning in 1981, John Williams has become an annual fixture at the Bowl—a nearly unbroken run of summers (sometimes with the LA Phil, sometimes with the Pops) where enormous crowds gather under the stars, in this scenic amphitheater just off the 101 freeway, to listen to his popular themes. Audiences swarm the place to hear Williams conduct his own music, consistently selling out the nearly 18,000-seat venue—even across three nights, “John Williams nights” have become a favorite staple of summertime in Los Angeles, a yearly tradition for local families and out-of-town fans.
In the last fifteen years it has become a ritual for audience members to bring glowing toy lightsabers and wave them in time to selections from Star Wars; last summer Williams got in on the act himself with a “duel” onstage with his co-conductor, LA Phil music director Gustavo Dudamel (a friend and unabashed Williams fanboy).
In the past few years, with the popularity of ComicCon and cosplay, fans have begun showing up in costumes of their favorite characters from the movies that Williams has scored.
The electric energy in every audience – of all ages is the kind of thing one would expect to see at a rock concert. Without fail, year after year, the Bowl fills to capacity with families and individuals who feel a profound emotional connection to the music of this unflashy, aging maestro, and they roar their love for the man and his music.
John Williams, now 93, may or may not have conducted his last concert at the Hollywood Bowl. He may or may not be there this weekend for the 3-night run – but make no mistake, get the orchestra on stage, with a Williams ICONIC set list, and the fans come in droves. For those lucky enough over the years to have seen Williams himself conducting, it is a magical experience. Even famed director and frequent Williams collaborator and boss, Steven Spielberg has gotten in on the action, one year being on stage at the Bowl to introduce film clips from some of the most famous films the two have done together.
A cherished Bowl tradition, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and conductor David Newman salute one of Hollywood’s living legends with three performances of John Williams: Maestro of the Movies this weekend, August 22-24. Featuring some of the biggest hits and beloved classics of the silver screen, this all-Williams program also includes a spectacular selection of film clips—from Star Wars and Indiana Jones to Superman and Dear Basketball (in its entirety!)—on the Bowl’s big screens. So, fire up your lightsabers… and may the Force be with you!
WeAreMovieGeeks.com attended the TCM Film Festival in Hollywood over the weekend and as usual, it did not disappoint! The theme of this year’s festival was GRAND ILLUSIONS: FANTASTIC WORLDS ON FILM and it was chock full of all the sci-fi, fantasy, and film-noir selections anyone could ask for!
The TCM Classic Film Festival opened April 24th with a 45th Anniversary screening of STAR WARS: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK at the TCL Chinese Theater followed by a conversation with filmmaker George Lucas.
Here’s a wrap-up of what we saw over the weekend.
Superman The Movie (1978)
Guest: Michael DeLuca (WB)
First up was Superman the Movie, from 1978. Starring Christopher Reeve, Gene Hackman and Margot Kidder, this is long considered the penultimate Superman movie. And there have been a few since, but none compare with this masterpiece. In attendance to present the film was Michael DeLuca, Co-Chair and CEO of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, encompassing Warner Bros. Pictures, New Line Cinema, and Warner Bros. Pictures Animation. This Superman movie has been a long time favorite of De Luca’s, and he shared a story of being 13 yrs old when the movie was released and riding a subway from Brooklyn into Manhattan to see it. Fast-forward to this summer’s release of SUPERMAN, the next installment helmed by James Gunn, De Luca said that his main goal was to make sure this latest version kept a sentimental connection to the original.
One of the things he wanted to ensure was that the Fortress of Solitude looked the same as it did here, and that he wanted the film to have the same heart and not be just another superhero movie. During the discussion, he also talked about some of his favorite details of the 1978 version, such as the fact that new-comer Christopher Reeve was told he was too skinny, so he packed on muscle mass to fill out the famous red and blue suit. This fan-favorite at the festival was sold out and it’s not hard to see why.
Misery (1990)
Guests: Rob Reiner, Kathy Bates
One of the better Stephen King film adaptations, 1990’s horror/thriller MISERY held up surprisingly well. In attendance to speak after the film were director Rob Reiner and star Kathy Bates, who won a best actress Oscar for her portrayal of psycho nurse Annie Wilkes. One fun story they shared was that in the weeks leading up to 1990’s Academy Awards, Reiner told Bates to just have fun because she had no chance of winning anyway (She had some pretty stiff competition that year, including Meryl Streep, Angelica Huston and Joanne Woodward). He blamed it on the Academy not wanting to give awards to “this kind of movie,” meaning the horror genre, and he was the first to jump up when they said her name. Reiner also encouraged Bates when she had doubts about her performance. She would stay in character after filming out of fear she wouldn’t be able to “get it back” the next day and Reiner assured her she was a good enough actress to get it back when she needed to. When asked which of all the characters she has played is she most like, with no hesitation she said Annie Wilkes, which got a huge laugh, because, you know, psycho!

Mildred Pierce (1947)
Guest: Mario Cantone
When Joan Crawford won the best actress Oscar for her portrayal of Mildred Pierce, she famously accepted her Oscar in bed, as she was home with the “flu.” It was the perfect melodramatic stunt for an iconic melodramatic performance. And 78 years later, the TCM classic film audience were still glued to their seats. TCM Host Ben Mankiewicz welcomed co-host Mario Cantone to introduce the film and hilarity ensued. Cantone, a classic film lover himself, proceeded to conduct the introduction in his best Bette Davis impression – taking shots at her famous rival, Joan Crawford.
Mildred Pierce was somewhat of a comeback for Crawford. At the age of 42, the Hollywood studio system already considered her too old for the leading-lady roles, and for sure thought at this point in her career, an Academy Award was out of reach. Undeterred, Crawford threw herself into the role and when she was nominated, she vowed to not attend Hollywood’s biggest night, instead making them come to her. Legendary for sure.

Jaws (1975)
Guest: Lorraine Gary
This year marks the 50th anniversary of JAWS, the Steven Spielberg “shark movie” that started it all – famous for being regarded as the first “blockbuster,” and paving the way for all subsequent movies that broke box office records, hailed by critics and audiences alike. Was anyone brave enough to go back in the water in the summer of 1975? After Spielberg’s terrifying flick, we doubt it!
On hand to talk about her experience on the film was actress Lorraine Gary, who played police chief Martin Brody’s wife Ellen. She told great stories of filming on the New England island of Martha’s Vineyard in November and being asked to walk into the freezing ocean for a scene that was ultimately cut. She also remembered co-star Roy Scheider as being a little icy, as this was her first movie. Her past work had been on stage and minor tv roles. By 1975, she had been married to Universal Pictures president Sid Sheinberg for almost 20 years. Sheinberg was instrumental in nurturing Steven Spielberg’s career and putting JAWS into production at Universal. On one occasion, Scheider told her she had a big head while filming a close-up of the screen couple. Considered one of the favorite “movie moms” by fans, she said she is still often approached by fans about JAWS. And speaking of fans, there was no shortage of superfans at this screening. We spoke to two attendees that had with them original Quint and Matt Hooper action figures from 1975. Now that’s devotion! (Insiders were actually hoping Spielberg might make a surprise appearance, as he was just down the street at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood to present the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award to Francis Ford Coppola, but no such luck.)
Oklahoma! (1955)
Guest: Shaun Cassidy
It was 8:45 am on Sunday morning, and even at that hour, fans filled the 900+ seat theater for the Oscar-winning OKLAHOMA! In 1955, the film won two Oscars, including Best Scoring of a Musical (today known simply as Best Score). The film was adapted from the hit 1943 Broadway musical of the same name. Although the film was initially to have been shot on location in the titl13e state, the producers opted to shoot elsewhere, apparently because the oil wells would be a distraction for exterior scenes. Location shooting was done mostly in Nogales, Arizona.
This particular screening was nice throwback to the days gone by, with the overture playing before the movie started and there was a 10-minute intermission.
On hand to present the movie was former pop star/actor/producer Shaun Cassidy, son of star Shirley Jones. Jones, now age 91, was 19, when she was cast in OKLAHOMA! It was her first movie. She had long idolized her co-star Gordon MacRae, and their onscreen chemistry was so good, they were cast the following year together in CAROUSEL.
Sunset Boulevard (1950)
This classic from 1950 is always a fan favorite at film festivals, and at this years TCMFF, it was no different. The 900+ seat theater was completely full – some even wearing turbans as an homage to Gloria Swanson’s iconic character, fading silent movie star, Norma Desmond.
One of the really fun things about SUNSET BOULEVARD is that there were some real Hollywood icons in the movie playing themselves at the time, including Cecil B. DeMille, Buster Keaton and Hedda Hopper. In 1951, SUNSET BOULEVARD won three Oscars, for Screenplay, Score, and Art Direction. One of the lasting influences of this movie was the 1994 smash hit Broadway musical of the same name, and won a Tony for Glen Close in the lead role. A subsequent revival of the musical is currently playing on Broadway and stars Nicole Scherzinger as an even more psychotic Norma Desmond.
