It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Superman! All of St. Louis turned out downtown at The Arch to celebrate Independence Day with the Man of Steel.
From the Daily Planet to Krypto to the Fortress of Solitude, St Louis was treated to a dazzling drone display that was out of this world as fans cheered on Big Blue!
Celebrate Saint Louis partnered with Warner Bros. Pictures to create the vibrant drone show, designed by Fantasy Drone Shows, with 400 drones and 11 images to promote the anticipated release of DC Studios’ hugely anticipated new film SUPERMAN set to release in theaters on July 11, 2025. The drone show took to the skies prior to the annual tradition of fireworks.
St. Louis fans were able to celebrate hometown hero, director James Gunn, and his highly anticipated SUPERMAN… leaving all of St. Louis saying… LOOK UP!
Written, directed and produced by St. Louis’ own James Gunn and starring David Corenswet in the titular role, the all-new epic action adventure film SUPERMAN will be releasing only in theaters and IMAX nationwide on July 11th. “Superman,” DC Studios’ first feature film to hit the big screen, is set to soar into theaters worldwide this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures. In his signature style, James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.

This past weekend, fans were treated to 3 nights of some of the most iconic music in Hollywood movie history, conducted by “the maestro” himself, John Williams. Williams, still going strong at 91, appeared on stage, like a spritely Jedi master…with hundreds of light sabers lighting up the Hollywood Bowl in his honor. We’re guessing this is something he has gotten used to, considering that Saturday night marked an impressive 100th performance at the Bowl for Williams, a run that began in 1977.
The first half of the performance with the LA Philharmonic, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, was a selection of well-known scores curated by John Williams, as pieces that are special to him, including Hooray for Hollywood, The Cowboys, and Vertigo. Dudamel then launched into some memorable pieces composed by Williams such as Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (“Duel of the Fates”), Amistad, and finally the main theme from Superman, that was perfectly accompanied by a video montage of Williams’ career.
The second half of the show was clearly what the crowd was waiting for, and with light sabers in hand, they were ready! Amazingly, but not surprisingly, Williams walks out on stage with little fanfare. No announcement, no introduction (as if one were needed… lol). He simply does what he does, and clearly loves. He walks to the podium, and after a short bow, taps the baton, acknowledges the orchestra, and away we go!
I’m sure, after having composed over 150 movie scores, it’s not easy to pick just a few. And to be fair, outside of Star Wars, Williams tries to not play the same thing time after time when he performs yearly at the Bowl. This year’s lineup included selections from the Indiana Jones franchise, both new (“Helena’s Theme”) and familiar (“Raiders March”). Fan favorite Jurassic Park also made the cut this time, as well as an unbelievable performance of Schindler’s List, by Williams long-time Hollywood bowl Concertmaster and first chair violin virtuoso, Bing Wang. It’s absolutely incredible to see live, if you get the chance.
From there, it was off to a galaxy far, far away, which is clearly what the fans came for – selections from Star Wars, including “Asteroid Field,” “Princess Leia’s Theme,” and “Throne Room and Finale.” It was during this last selection that Williams and Dudamel participated in a hilariously epic light saber battle. And the crowd ate it up, cheering and begging for more.
During the encore, Williams delivered an emotional finale, with E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Empire Strikes Back (“Yoda’s Theme) and “The Imperial March” aka, Darth Vader’s Theme. All this, and it took THREE curtain calls by Williams to get the crowd out of there. The “Maestro” indeed.

August 3: A Live Presentation of 2001: A Space Odyssey
As Warner Bros. celebrates 100 years of entertaining audiences around the world, the Hollywood Bowl will add a highlight to the yearlong celebration through Stanley Kubrick’s sci-fi epic 2001: A Space Odyssey. A landmark film in the 1960s, it has topped many critics’ lists for greatest film of all time. A key ingredient in Kubrick’s cinematic alchemy was his clever use of classical music, which forever changed and gave new meaning set against stunning celestial imagery. From the ethereal music of György Ligeti to Richard Strauss’ Also sprach Zarathustra and Johann Strauss, Jr.’s The Blue Danube, watch and listen as the Los Angeles Philharmonic performs the score live to picture while the movie shows on the Bowl’s big screens.
August 4 and 5: Walt Disney Animation Studios: The Concert
Walt Disney Animation Studios has shown us stories that have defined our humanity and inspired the world to wish upon a star. Journey through the most iconic song and film moments of the studio’s treasured legacy live in concert, from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to Fantasia to The Little Mermaid to Encanto. Special guest artists join Thomas Wilkins and the LA Phil for an unforgettable experience under the stars, complete with magical film clips on the big screen.
September 1 & 2: Star Wars: Return of the Jedi in Concert
In the climactic sixth episode of the Star Wars saga, Darth Vader readies the second Death Star to unleash the final blow to the Rebel Alliance. Luke Skywalker joins R2-D2, C-3PO, and Princess Leia to free Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt and launch a desperate attack upon the entire Imperial Fleet. Focus Features is transforming the Landmark Theatres Sunset in Los Angeles into a real-life Asteroid City for an exclusive two-week immersive experience. The pop-up will be open to the public beginning with 7:45PM preview screenings of ASTEROID CITY on Thursday, June 15th, with all five screens at the theater showing Wes Anderson’s newest film for the first two weeks of its theatrical run. ASTEROID CITY takes place in a fictional American desert town circa 1955, when the itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.
Brimming with vibrant colors and the unique aesthetic that has come to represent a Wes Anderson film, this singular experience will transport fans into another world. Patrons will have the opportunity to explore the fictional town of Asteroid City in person while capturing photos with set re-creations, props from the film, and costume displays. The theater’s concession area will be transformed into the 1950’s luncheonette seen in the movie, and interactive elements inspired by the film’s fictional town will be featured throughout the space.

Ron Elz, a.k.a. Johnny Rabbitt (along with a special guest cast), will present prominent St. Louis people and places related to the stage and screen on Nov. 15 at ‘The Front Row‘.
Movie and theater enthusiasts can take a tour of yesterday’s theaters—including Loew’s State, the Orpheum, the Shubert, the Ozark, drive-ins, and more—as well as modern gems, such as the Fox, the Muny, the Stifel Theatre, and the Loretto-Hilton Center. St. Louis itself has taken a starring role in movies such as Meet Me in St. Louis and The Hoodlum Priest. Of course, movies have been filmed here too, including White Palace and Escape from New York.
The city has also been home to celebrities like Tennessee Williams, Betty Grable, Vincent Price, Kevin Kline, Jon Hamm, and others.
Attendees will receive a guide to the former homes of celebs, as well as a locator for 25 theaters that are no longer standing. The house lights are dimming, so sit back and enjoy the show.

Evil resurfaces in Derry as director Andy Muschietti reunites the Losers Club—young and adult—in a return to where it all began with “It Chapter Two.” The film is Muschietti’s follow-up to 2017’s critically acclaimed and massive worldwide box office hit “IT,” which grossed over $700 million globally.
Both redefining and transcending the genre, “IT” became part of the cultural zeitgeist as well as the highest-grossing horror film of all time.
Because every 27 years evil revisits the town of Derry, Maine, “It Chapter Two” brings the characters—who’ve long since gone their separate ways—back together as adults, nearly three decades after the events of the first film.

Barbara Muschietti, Dan Lin and Roy Lee produced the film, with Marty Ewing, Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg serving as the executive producers. The behind-the-scenes creative team included director of photography Checco Varese (“The 33”), Oscar-winning production designer Paul Denham Austerberry (“The Shape of Water”), editor Jason Ballantine (“IT,” “Mad Max: Fury Road”), and Oscar-nominated costume designer Luis Sequeira (“The Shape of Water,” “Mama”).

Some friendships transcend lifetimes. In A Dog’s Journey, the sequel to the heartwarming global hit A Dog’s Purpose, beloved dog Bailey finds his new destiny and forms an unbreakable bond that will lead him, and the people he loves, to places they never imagined.
Bailey (voiced again by Josh Gad) is living the good life on the Michigan farm of his “boy,” Ethan (Dennis Quaid) and Ethan’s wife Hannah (Marg Helgenberger). He even has a new playmate: Ethan and Hannah’s baby granddaughter, CJ. The problem is that CJ’s mom, Gloria (Betty Gilpin), decides to take CJ away. Focus 15, the initiative commemorating the founding 15 years ago of worldwide film company Focus Features, has partnered with Fandango, the leading digital network for all things movies, and the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles for a special outdoor zombie screening of Shaun of the Deadthe week of Halloween on Thursday, October 26, 2017.
Starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, Shaun of the Dead was the first film in The Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy, and was followed by Hot Fuzz and The World’s End.
Guests are encouraged to come in costume as their favorite Shaun of the Dead character. All attendees will receive a special Shaun of the Dead t-shirt while supplies last. Tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster for $12 and can be purchased here.
Focus 15 kicked off last spring with a party at the Cannes International Film Festival, and continued overthe summer with screenings around the world of classic Focus films.
