Gary Oldman, Liam Hemsworth And Harrison Ford In New PARANOIA Photo

Relativity Media has released a brand new image from Liam Hemsworth’s upcoming film, PARANOIA. One costly mistake lands an ordinary man in the center of a dangerous corporate game that is ultimately life threatening.

In this high-stakes thriller, Adam Cassidy (Liam Hemsworth) is a regular guy trying to get ahead in his entry-level job at Wyatt Corporation. But after one costly mistake, Adam’s ruthless CEO, Nicholas Wyatt (Gary Oldman), forces him to spy on corporate rival, Jock Goddard (Harrison Ford), Wyatt’s old mentor. Adam soon finds himself occupying the corner office and living the life of his dreams. However, behind the scenes, he is simply a pawn in Wyatt’s corporate game and realizes he must ultimately find a way out from under his boss who will stop at nothing, even murder, to win a multi-billion dollar advantage.

Relativity Media has sent over these official first look images from PARANOIA, starring Liam Hemsworth, Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford.

Written by Jason Dean Hall (SPREAD) from a previous draft by Barry Levy (VANTAGE POINT) and based on the book by Joseph Finder, PARANOIA is from director Robert Luketic (21, LEGALLY BLONDE, KILLERS). I really like this guy’s films – looking forward to the first trailer and some scenes between Oldman and Ford.

Demarest Films And E Stars Board PARANOIA; Thriller Stars Liam Hemsworth, Gary Oldman, Harrison Ford – In Theaters Sept 27, 2013

Principal photography begins Saturday (July 21, 2012) on Robert Luketic’s (21) currently-titled PARANOIA, Reliance Entertainment and IM Global announced today. In addition Demarest Films, a financing and production company which was launched in April by Lambert Media Group’s Michael Lambert and Sam Englebardt and William D. Johnson have joined the $40 million picture as co-financier and co-producer, while Beijing’s E Stars Entertainment will co-finance. PARANOIA will be distributed in the U.S. by Relativity Media.

This high-tech corporate espionage thriller is directed by Robert Luketic (21) and stars Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games), Oscar®-nominee Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight), Oscar®-nominee Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones), Lucas Till (X-Men: First Class), Amber Heard (The Rum Diary), Embeth Davidtz (The Amazing Spider-Man), Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck), Josh Holloway (Lost) and Oscar®-winner Richard Dreyfuss (Red).

PARANOIA is being produced by Alexandra Milchan of Emjag Productions, William D. Johnson of Demarest Films and Deepak Nayar of Kintop Reliance, Reliance’s joint production venture with Kintop Pictures. IM Global CEO Stuart Ford, Scott Lambert of Film 360, Sam Englebardt of Demarest Films, Allen Liu of E Stars, Douglas Urbanski, Christophe Riandee of Gaumont, Ryan Kavanaugh and Tucker Tooley of Relativity Media will serve as executive producers.

Relativity acquired U.S. rights to market and distribute PARANOIA on the eve of Cannes Film Festival, with IM Global handling international distribution. The film is set to debut in U.S. theatres on September 27, 2013.

Collaborating with Luketic behind the scenes is a top-notch below-the-line creative team including:  director of photography David Tattersall (The Green Mile), production designer David Brisbin (Sinister), art director Scott Anderson (Win Win), costume designer Luca Mosca (21), editor Dany Cooper (Queen of the Damned), and stunt coordinator Stephen Pope (Secrets, Dreams, Faith and Wonder: Mass for the New Millennium). Filming will take place on location in Philadelphia and New York City.

But after one costly mistake, Adam is blackmailed by ruthless CEO Nicholas Wyatt (Gary Oldman) to turn corporate spy by going to work for the firm’s top competitor, which is run by Wyatt’s old mentor, Jock Goddard (Harrison Ford). Adam soon finds himself delivered into prepackaged success, living his fantasy life of old-world boardrooms, private clubs, exotic cars, and all the spoils of Manhattan bachelorhood.  However, behind the scenes, he is merely a pawn in Wyatt’s power play, and must search for a way out from under his boss, who will stop at nothing, even murder, to gain a multi-billion dollar advantage.

The screenplay, based on the novel Paranoia by Joseph Finder, was written by Jason Dean Hall (Spread) from a previous draft by Barry Levy (Vantage Point).

Demarest Films’ film slate includes: Neil Jordan’s Byzantium, which is currently in post-production and stars Saoirse Ronan, Gemma Arterton, Jonny Lee Miller and Sam Riley; David Rosenthal’s A Single Shot, currently filming, starring Sam Rockwell, Melissa Leo, and Jeffrey Wright; and Penthouse North, a psychological thriller directed by Joseph Ruben which stars Michelle Monaghan and Michael Keaton which will be released by The Weinstein Company.

Review: ‘The Ugly Truth’

So, when Jennifer said “I want to see that,” I looked up from my laptop and asked “see what?” She quickly backed up the Tivo and showed me a commercial for ‘The Ugly Truth’. All I remember thinking was… oh no, not again.

Fast forward and we’re at the premier and sitting in our seats eagerly awaiting the raging suck fest that most romantic comedies are. I said most. Not all. There are, in fact, a number of fantastic romantic comedies out there. Though, most of the ones I can think of involve Meg Ryan. Weird. So anyway, the movie begins and follows the path of Abby, a TV producer and neurotic control freak who is surprisingly well versed in handling her crew and talent. Knowing just what to say to keep them happily in line. She also shows off her ability to think on the fly when the guest chef on her show causes a small uprising with the dish he makes.

So, enter the struggle as poor Abby, played by Katherine Heigel (Knocked Up, 27 Dresses), is trying to save her failing show and find the ideal mate at the same time. When by chance, her cat changes the channel on the TV to ‘The Ugly Truth’, a show on public access TV hosted by Mike, played by Gerard Butler (300, RocknRolla).

Mike’s show is all about exposing the little fantasies we all have about dating and love. All the while making fun of the masks and slight of hand we use in our pursuit of romantic relationships. It was kind of refreshing to hear a man talk about being a man. Talking about what our real motivations are and how they relate to male and female interactions. If there is not a show like this one on the air now, there really should be.

After a very embarrassing moment as a caller on Mike’s cable access show, Abby finds herself in the unfortunate position of being Mike’s producer after he is brought onto Abby’s show as a weekly guest. The powers that be think that Mike is just the sort of audacious flare that the dieing show needs.

This is a fantastic movie. Heigle and Butler have a strong on-screen chemistry. Their fight scenes have sexually charged energy that makes them engaging to watch. I thoroughly enjoyed the film. It occurred to me as we sat watching the credits and waiting for the theater to clear out that this is a guy movie disguised as a chick flick. Take that Coyote Ugly!

The truth about romantic comedies is that they all follow a pattern. An established set of rules that you can check off as you work your way through the movie. ‘The Ugly Truth’ starring Katherine Heigel and Gerard Butler hits all of the required notes and unfolds exactly as you might expect. What I did not expect was the raunchy humor, explicit language and profanity. And yet, somehow they made it all work.

Tightly wound morning show producer Abby runs a tight ship at her Sacramento television studio (look for Cheryl Hines and John Michael Higgins as a hilarious husband/wife anchor team). Ratings are down, so her manager decides to liven things up by bringing in the host of a local cable access show known for sparking controversy about the truth about the sexes. Mike (Gerard Butler) is everything that Abby is not. She is determined to get him off of her show by any means necessary.

Opportunity presents itself on two fronts when Abby meets handsome Dr. Andrews (Eric Winter is the perfect Ken to Heigel’s Barbie). To help her land the man of her dreams, Mike offers to coach her on the ways of seduction and lust. If he is right, she gets Dr. Andrews. If his plan does not work, Mike will leave the show.

While I am sure we all know how the film ends I will not give away the ending. I will however warn the faint of heart that the blue screened ending scene is in jarring contrast to the rest of the beautifully shot film. I actually think that the special effects in ‘Plan 9 From Outer Space’ may have been better.

‘The Ugly Truth’ opens in theaters Friday July 24, 2009 and is rated ‘R’.

Rodriguez Dumps ‘Barbarella’… Luketic Picks Her Up on the Rebound

When it comes to the sexy sci-fi classic ‘Barbarella’, two things are true… Jane Fonda will ALWAYS be the only “true” Queen of the Galaxy, and the remake will seemingly ALWAYS be in a state of development Hell. After well over a decade of being tossed about between various producers, directors and stars like a hot potato, one has to wonder if it’s even worth following anymore.

Well, following this pipe dream is another one of those things I’ll never be able to give up… for better, or worse. Last month we got the unfortunate and disappointing, yet not entirely surprising news that Robert Rodriguez’s vision of an updated remake of the 1968 original is officially dead.

We, the fans and skeptics alike, can go ahead and chalk this project up as yet another of Rodriguez’s brilliantly baffling brainstorm blunders that never managed to launch from it’s conceptual phase. If I were a gambling man, my money would probably land on ‘Barbarella’ being joined by ‘Red Sonja’ and ‘Predator’ in due time, but I’m not and I’d rather remain an optimist in this arena anyway.

So, as an optimist, I find reassurance in the news that Rodriguez’s departure (allegedly due to a dispute over where to shoot the film, Austin, TX or Germany) does not equivocate to the project’s ultimate demise. Apparently director Robert Luketic is currently discussing tactics with Dino De Laurentis for picking up the project and developing it with another studio.

Universal, the last studio officially attached, had been on board with Rodriguez until his budget supposedly started to resemble an $80 million dollar chunk of their pocket books and they pulled the plug, resulting in Rodriguez seeking alternative financing, the highest of which was the $70 million offer from Germany that he turned down in favor of not being so far from his five kids for so long. Well, at least he’s a good daddy.

Robert Luketic, the potential new helmer, is probably best known for directing ‘Legally Blonde’ and ‘Monster-In-Law’ … is it just me, or are you starting to get that funky after-vomit taste in your mouth as well? Nothing personal against Mr. Luketic, and I actually thought ‘Legally Blonde’ was a fun movie for what it was, but why the sudden interest in THIS project? Is it because you worked with Jane Fonda and found some late-term onset respect and admiration for her early career and want to somehow honor her by remaking the one movie she’s best known for? He’s never done anything even remotely similar to this type of film and my excitement for the remake was due solely to the idea it might be done well. Rodriguez would have delivered. Luketic, on the other hand, has me worried.

‘Five Killers’ brings back Familiar Favorites

Lionsgate is developing a new action/comedy called ‘Five Killers’ which will star Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl, written by Bob DeRosa and Ted Griffin and directed by Robert Luketic (’21’).

The story follows a hitman (Kutcher) at the top of his game who falls for a computer tech (Heigl) and decides to hang up his guns. Years later, their suburban bliss is ruptured when he finds out there’s a hit out on him, forcing him and his spooked wife to go on the run. — HR

So, what’s the big deal?

Who thought Tom Selleck was dead? Or, maybe he’d gone into retirement, secluding himself from the rest of the world to live the life of a hermit? WRONG! That’s right… Tom Selleck is back and has been cast in ‘Five Killers’ along side two other familiar faces that we’ve come to miss, Catherine O’Hara (not so lost, ‘For Your Consideration’) and Martin Mull (‘Night Court’).

Now, I know many of you are eagerly, maybe even fanatically, jumping up and down in your seats screaming with unbridled anticipation, but sit tight. ‘Five Killers’ begins production this month and is scheduled to hit theaters on June 4, 2010.

Heigl and Kutcher Sign On for ‘Five Killers’

Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher have signed on to star in ‘Five Killers’, the new thriller directed by Robert Luketic (‘The Ugly Truth’).

The story revolves around a woman who meets the man of her dreams while vacationing. Â  Soon after marrying, however, they discover their neighbors may be assassins hired to kill them.

It sounds like kind of a hoky idea. Â  I’m sure if this film works, it will be from the execution. Â  Kutcher can be a decent actor when he tries to be dramatic. Â  His comedic stuff can get kind of annoying. Â  Heigl, on the other hand, is pretty much annoying through-and-through.

Filming begins next month in Atlanta and France.
