Adult Swim’s ROBOT CHICKEN WALKING DEAD Special Arrives on Blu-ray and DVD March 27th


Adult Swim’s Emmy Award-winning series, “Robot Chicken,” presents the hilarious parody of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” with The Robot Chicken Walking Dead Special: Look Who’s Walking, arriving on Blu-ray and DVD March 27!

The undead get animated when Adult Swim’s The Robot Chicken Walking Dead Special: Look Who’s Walking arrives on Blu-ray and DVD on March 27. Seth Green, Ashley Judd, Joe Pantoliano and Ray Liotta Star in Vision Films’ THE IDENTICAL

Vision Films, a worldwide distributor of independent feature films, documentaries and music programming,  has announced today that they have picked up international sales rights to THE IDENTICAL, the musical drama directed by Dustin Marcellino and starring Blake Rayne, Erin Cotrell (“Love’s Long Journey”), Amanda Crew (“Crazy Kind of Love”), Brian Geraghty(“Boardwalk Empire”), Seth Green (“Dads”), Ashley Judd (“Olympus Has Fallen”), Joe Pantoliano (“The Matrix”) and Ray Liotta(“GoodFellas”).

THE IDENTICAL was written by Howard Klausner, who also produced alongside Matt Russell, Joe McDougall, Coke Sams and Clio Tegel.  Mark G. Mathis, Yochanan Marcellino and Matthew Dean Russell are executive producing.  Vision Films represents the film internationally and will have a special screening Friday, November 8th at the Ocean Screening Room in Santa Monica at 3:00pm.

Identical twin brothers (both played by Blake Rayne) are separated at birth during the Great Depression. Their parents (Brian Geraghty, Amanda Crew) just cannot afford to give them both a life beyond poverty, so one is adopted by loving family.  Despite their very different upbringings, the boys’ shared passion for music causes their lives to unknowingly intersect as they experience a powerful and mysterious connection often felt by twins.  One of the boys becomes the most famous rock ‘n roll legend in the world, Drexel Hemsley, while Ryan Wade struggles to find balance between his love for music and trying to please his evangelist father (Ray Liotta) and his devoted mother (Ashley Judd) who have very different plans for his life in the ministry.  Ryan is encouraged by his wife Jenny (Erin Cottrell) and lifelong friends Dino and Avi (Seth Green, Joe Pantoliano) to follow his musical dreams. A timeless tale of love, hope, and redemption, it’s a captivating journey about the restoration and the reconciliation of a family broken apart by culture, creed and tradition.

The film features over 20 original songs in three volumes from the 50s, 60s and 70s with the soundtrack written and produced by Jerry Marcellino (producer of Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, The Supremes, Lionel Richie) and Yochanan Marcellino. With Jerry, Yochanan, Dustin and Jordan Marcellino, the film involved three generations of veterans of the entertainment industry.

The Geekie Awards are created for Geeks, by Geeks, with Seth Green Presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award to Mr. Stan “The Man” Lee on August 18th. This is the first live broadcast geek-genre awards show supporting indie artists and creators.

The Geekie Awards was created by über geek girl, Kristen Nedopak, in order to celebrate the most talented independent creators, artists, and filmmakers in the geek genre.  This awards show stands alone as one that will showcase the multitude of genres within the geek world to an international audience of industry leaders and fans who may not otherwise discover it, via a live broadcast event.

Presenting Stan Lee with his Lifetime Achievement Award on August 18th will be Actor/Writer/Comedian, and all-around-geek creator, Seth Green (http://www.sethgreenonline.com/).  Green has starred in numerous films and television series including all three Austin Powers films, The Italian Job,Party Monster, Without a Paddle, Can’t Hardly Wait, Old Dogs and dozens more. Green also stars in the upcoming 20th/Fox live action series Dads as Eli, a manboy with a successful video business whose nightmare absentee dad (Peter Riegert) unexpectedly moves in with him and wreaks havoc. The show extends his relationship with Family Guy boss Seth MacFarlane, where Green has voiced Chris Griffin since the series’ inception. In addition, Green voices A-Bomb on Disney XD’s upcoming Marvel’s Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. Green is the creator/executive producer/writer/director/ primary voice talent for Robot Chicken, which won the 2010 Emmy for Outstanding Short Format Animation series. NYCC 2012: Watch Live Online!

Today is the kickoff of NYCC 2012 & instead of walking the convention floor; I’m stuck at home putting some finishing touches on my new film, which premieres next weekend at the Orlando Film Festival. I’ll write a little something about my new flick later but for now I want to pass along some info for those of you also stuck sitting out NY Comic Con this weekend.

NYCC 2011: Friday Recap

As I left the Javits Center tonight, I realized that I did not have anything to eat or drink in nearly 10 hours. That just goes to show you how time seems to get away from you at the New York Comic Con. It also explains why I did not get to do nearly as much as I planned for the day.

I arrived at NYCC about 2 hours after it officially opened and I was off to a good start with absolutely no wait for press check-in. I thought I knew what to expect since I attended (and COVERED) NY Comic Con in 2009. The first thing I realized walking onto the show floor was just how massive this event has become. It has expanded to take up pretty much the entire Javits Center.

Unfortunately, it seems like the film presence at the festival has not increased much. I was surprised by the absence of booths for Fox & After Dark Films, which were two of my favorites in 2009. Most attendees probably do not care though since I know I am in the minority of those who attend the convention mostly for film rather than comics, anime, toys, collectibles & video games. Regardless, I still spent the first 4 hours wandering around the show floor and there are still film booths I need to hit up tomorrow like the one for the indie film, BOY WONDER.

I will do a full photo spread on Sunday with all the incredible costumes. For now, here are a few highlights from the show floor.

Furry Walls!

Around 5 pm, I made my way over to the IGN Theater for the ROBOT CHICKEN panel and waited on what may have been the longest line I have ever been on. But it was worth it. The presentation started with a preview of Season 5.5, which will be hilarious and so very wrong. I don’t want to spoil anything but one of my favorite sketches shown can best be described as a mashup of PRECIOUS and ATTACK OF THE 50 FT WOMAN.

The crowd erupted in cheers when they brought out the panelists: Seth Green, Matt Senreich, Geoff Johns, Kevin Shinick, Doug Goldstein, Macaulay Culkin, and Clare Grant. Early on Green warned the crowd that they do no prep for these panels and that they are here to meet the fans and answer questions. One of the very first people to the mic instead said “things I’d like to see” and began describing some sketches. The panel humored him at first but then Seth joked that this was “not a pitch session.” It was also added that if anyone suggests a sketch to them, they legally can’t do it. However, if you are a female writer, the ROBOT CHICKEN team is hiring. Next week they will post a tab on their official FACEBOOK PAGE where female writers can submit material.

Some other highlight from the panel was Seth doing a Peter impression following it up by saying “I don’t do Peter’s voice. Please don’t tell Seth (MacFarlane) I did that.” Someone asked if comedy in the Star Wars universe has been exhausted. Seth said it definitely wasn’t and he cannot wait for everyone to see the Star Wars animated series he has been working on. He also added that “George and LucasFilm have been pretty f-ing lenient” in terms of what they can get away with in sketches. Someone with a Green Lantern logo asked a question and several of the panelists reached over the table to take pictures. One of the final announcements of the panel was that the next ROBOT CHICKEN special will be about DC Comics. Based on the preview, which was edited together using DC Comics sketches already on the show, it will be called RC/DC.

The battery on my camera would never have lasted the full panel but I did get to record this very strange moment after a fan asks Seth Green and Macaulay Culkin to make a sexy pose.

ROBOT CHICKEN season 5 will be out October 25th on DVD & Blu-Ray, and it will include 9 episodes that have not even aired yet. They are also about to launch RobotChicken.com.

Following the panel, I made my way to the TROMA booth in hopes of running into low budget horror icon, Lloyd Kaufman. Lloyd actually made a small cameo in my film STUCK LIKE CHUCK, which you can watch right HERE for free! I ended up hanging out at the Troma booth for the last 40 minutes of the day since our conversation kept getting interrupted by fans that wanted a picture or autograph. (From Lloyd, not me) He will actually be at the booth for most of tomorrow and Sunday so I highly suggest anyone attending to stop by Booth 2007. Lloyd will also be moderating a panel from 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM on Saturday for A LIAR’S AUTOBIOGRAPHY, which is an animated 3D film from EPIX about Graham Chapman from Monty Python.

Sobini Films Rounds Out Cast on SEXY EVIL GENIUS

Principal Photography Commences this Week on Dark Comedy
Starring Katee Sackhoff, Seth Green, Michelle Trachtenberg,Billy Baldwin, and Harold Perrineau Jr.

Seth Green, Michelle Trachtenberg, Billy Baldwin, and Harold Perrineau Jr. have joined Katee Sackhoff to round out the cast for Sobini Films’ dark comedy SEXY EVIL GENIUS.  Shawn Piller is making his feature directorial debut on the project which was written by Scott Lew, a scribe diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) and who can only communicate via the written word.

Lloyd Segan of Piller/Segan/Shepherd and David W. Higgins (HARD CANDY) of Launchpad Productions are producing along with Sobini Films’ Mark Amin. Cami Winikoff of Sobini and Scott Shepherd are executive producers. Sackhoff, Todd Ulman, and Nellie Nugiel are co-producers.

Piller is a veteran of episodic television and has directed and served as executive producer on shows DEAD ZONE, HAVEN, WILDFIRE, and GREEK.

Amin commented, “I have been looking for a script that was original, had great characters, a seasoned director with a vision, and a compelling story. When SEXY EVIL GENIUS attracted such a great cast, I knew we had found our film.”

SEXY EVIL GENIUS is a dark comedy about an eclectic group of strangers invited to a downtown Los Angeles bar by a mutual ex-lover, Nikki Franklyn (Sackhoff), a maddeningly sexy, unpredictable and possibly insane young woman who’s recently gotten out of prison for murdering her last ex-boyfriend. The party really gets started when Nikki herself arrives, hauling her latest lover and fiancée, the morally-challenged lawyer who’s been handling her case. She’s mysterious about her intentions and her current and former lovers soon realize they are all caught in one of her brilliant, mischievous mind-games with possible deadly consequences.

Lew is stricken with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease.) He is almost fully paralyzed and writes by moving his head in slight motions that connect to a digital keyboard screen. He literally wrote the script one letter, one word at a time. Lew wrote and directed the film BICKFORD SCHMEKLER’S COOL IDEAS in the early years of his diagnosis, but has been solely focused on writing as his condition has worsened. At this point in his life, he is only able to communicate via his email and digital keyboard.

Mark Amin’s Sobini Films productions include THE PRINCE & ME, PEACEFUL WARRIOR, based on the best-selling motivational book; and CHRISSA STANDS STRONG, created as a companion piece to the best-selling line of American Girl dolls. Amin¹s past credits include the critically acclaimed EVE’S BAYOU starring Samuel Jackson and FRIDA, distributed by Miramax Films, which garnered six Academy Award nominations.

New MARS NEEDS MOMS Featurette

Walt Disney has sent us this new featurette for MARS NEEDS MOMS. In it you’ll hear from actors Joan Cusack, Dan Fogler and Seth Green, producer Robert Zemeckis and director/screenwriter Simon Wells and catch a glimpse at the making of this sci-fi, family friendly movie.

Synopsis:

  • Berkeley Breathed, a Pulitzer-Prize winner for his comic strip “Bloom County,” is the author and illustrator of the book “Mars Needs Moms.” The story was inspired by a particular moment of disagreement that took place between his son Milo and his wife. 
  • Producer Robert Zemeckis, who wrote, directed and produced “Disney’s A Christmas Carol” and “The Polar Express,” is a pioneer in performance-capture filmmaking.  The process digitally captures the performances of the actors with computerized cameras in a full 360 degrees, allowing actors like Jim Carrey and Tom Hanks to play several roles of varying ages in one film, and for 36-year-old Seth Green to portray a 9-year-old.

Meet Wingnut, the leader of the Hairy Tribe Guys, who embody the lost love of Mars. They live in the underground trash caverns, discarded by the misguided civilized society above. Wingnut was Gribble‘s buddy before Milo arrived on Mars and Gribble thinks he’s a little crazy and not too smart. Meet Gribble, a 30-something who has been on Mars since his own mom was “needed” by Martians many years prior. When Milo reaches the planet and is taken prisoner, Gribble rescues him, guiding him through a series of secret chutes to the elaborate lair on Mars’ lower level that Gribble calls home.

Meet Two Cat, Gribble’s homemade companion, a small robot assembled out of discarded pieces of Martian technology. Although he doesn’t speak, he clearly thinks and may, in fact, be smarter than the man who built him.

  • Berkeley Breathed, a Pulitzer-Prize winner for his comic strip “Bloom County,” is the author and illustrator of the book “Mars Needs Moms.” The story was inspired by a particular moment of disagreement that took place between his son Milo and his wife. 
  • Producer Robert Zemeckis, who wrote, directed and produced “Disney’s A Christmas Carol” and “The Polar Express,” is a pioneer in performance-capture filmmaking.  The process digitally captures the performances of the actors with computerized cameras in a full 360 degrees, allowing actors like Jim Carrey and Tom Hanks to play several roles of varying ages in one film, and for 36-year-old Seth Green to portray a 9-year-old.

Meet Wingnut, the leader of the Hairy Tribe Guys, who embody the lost love of Mars. They live in the underground trash caverns, discarded by the misguided civilized society above. Wingnut was Gribble‘s buddy before Milo arrived on Mars and Gribble thinks he’s a little crazy and not too smart. But Wingnut just might understand far more about what is happening on Mars than anyone thinks.

Meet Ki, a young Martian who learned to speak English by watching a ‘70s sitcom. She spends her time painting elaborate graffiti on the walls of Mars. But she does so in secret. She’s forced to hide her artistic side on a planet that is devoid of color and emotion. The Martians are strictly forbidden from expressing any individuality—but Ki thinks for herself—particularly when she decides to help Milo.

Meet Gribble, a 30-something who has been on Mars since his own mom was “needed” by Martians many years prior. When Milo reaches the planet and is taken prisoner, Gribble rescues him, guiding him through a series of secret chutes to the elaborate lair on Mars’ lower level that Gribble calls home.

Meet Two Cat, Gribble’s homemade companion, a small robot assembled out of discarded pieces of Martian technology. Although he doesn’t speak, he clearly thinks and may, in fact, be smarter than the man who built him.
