THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 1 (Special Edition) – The Blu Review

Hello there are you Twi-Hards and non Twi-Hards, it’s your old pal Melissa here with another Blu-Ray Review! THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 1 is officially in stores, which means you can take your favorite werewolf and vampire home with you. That being said, I am still not 100% sold on this installment. Confused? It’s ok… I will explain.

In THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 1 Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson) are walking down the aisle to solidify their love. On their honeymoon, which is quite the real honeymoon, Bella becomes pregnant, which they did not think possible with Edward being immortal and all. Now, with an unknown fetus sucking the life out of Bella, and the Quileute tribe plotting to destroy Bella and the foreign life inside of her, Edward and Jacob Taylor Lautner must team up to save Bella once again. Edward, trying to convince Bella to get rid of the life that might destroy her, and Jacob, rebelling against his tribe to save the girl he will never fully have.

THE MOVIE:

I really tried to give this film a second chance to officially “WOW me” this time, and I can say that my mind has still not changed. As  much as I love the story, and for the most part I enjoyed the movie (on a superficial, girly, I can’t believe I fall for this crap level), it was horrible at parts. Is it just me, or was the acting even worse than the other three films… especially Ashley Greene as Alice. She just didn’t seem to fit, and was overacting when others weren’t. It was very strange to watch. Also, there are a couple of really goofy camera angles at the beginning that reminded me of a student film project rather than a major Hollywood film, and not in a good way.

I have made no secret that I think that when the Quileute turn into their wolf state, it looks awful. This was even worse to me the second time that I watched it! The dialog between the wolves is terrible! This was, by far, the worst part of the film. At least the wigs were better this time around.

Still, Kristen Stewart played her best Bella performance to date, and if you are a sucker for a good love story then you will enjoy this film.

THE BLU-RAY:

Audio: English: DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 Spanish: Dolby Digital 5.1

The film sounds terrific. Simply put, this movie sounds crisp and clear.

Video:  Video codec: MPEG-4 AVC Video resolution: 1080p Original aspect ratio: 2.39:1

The transition from big screen to home theater is stunning. The Blu-Ray really delivers as far as picture quality. The lines are sharp, and the colors are stunning.

BONUS FEATURES:

6 PART MAKING OF DOCUMENTARY: Fans will LOVE this!!! The entire cast participates as they go through details of filming Part 1. It takes us through the making of Bella’s dress and how they kept it secret, the wedding, and about some of their special wedding guests. It’s a must for any Twilight fan.

EDWARD AND BELLA’S WEDDING VIDEO: This is just a funny little extra that shows the cast wishing the new couple well.

JACOB’S DESTINY: This little feature shows the growth of Jacob as he transforms from boy to wolf. See, there is something for you Jacob fans as well.

Commentary with Director Bill Condon: I think it was a bad move to only have the director do the commentary on this one. This is Twilight. The fans want to hear the actors. I found him rather fascinating, and Condon does offer a few nice bits of trivia, but I think that most fans are going to be a bit disappointed.

Where are the deleted scenes? Maybe some extended scenes, alternate scenes, or even a gag reel? I understand that they are probably saving these for a final release, but it’s starting to get pretty disappointing when the bonus features keep getting cut down so you’ll fork over more money on a re-release of the movie, or a super deluxe edition.

OVERALL BLU-RAY RATING: 3.75 out of 5

Fourth and Final ‘Twilight’ Film Already Being Planned

twilight-cast

The fourth film in ‘The Twilight Saga’ is already being planned, some seven months before the second film has even been released.   TheWrap.com has learned that ‘Breaking Dawn’ will begin production in late spring 2010.

Summit Entertainment spokesman Paul Pflug declined to confirm or deny the report, saying only, “Summit has no comment on that rumor at this time.”

‘New Moon,’ the second film in the series is set for release on November 20.   ‘Eclipse,’ the third film, is scheduled for release some time in June of 2010.   With this tentative start date, it appears Summit Entertainment is anticipating a November, 2010 release date for ‘Breaking Dawn.’

‘Twilight,’ made for $37 million, has raked in $379.9 million worldwide, and the series stands as the driving force behind Summit Entertainment.   The distributor also had a relatively large hit with ‘Knowing’ earlier this year.

What do you think?   Is it too soon to already be planning on ‘Breaking Dawn’?   Have you read that far in the ‘Twilight’ series?   What can fans of the first film be expecting from the third and fourth films?   Let us know by commenting below!
