The second installment of the film franchise, THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON was released November 20, 2009 the third installment, THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE was released June 30, 2010, and THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 1 was released on November 18, 2011.

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 1 (Special Edition) – The Blu Review

Hello there are you Twi-Hards and non Twi-Hards, it’s your old pal Melissa here with another Blu-Ray Review! THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 1 is officially in stores, which means you can take your favorite werewolf and vampire home with you. That being said, I am still not 100% sold on this installment. Confused? It’s ok… I will explain.

In THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 1 Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson) are walking down the aisle to solidify their love. On their honeymoon, which is quite the real honeymoon, Bella becomes pregnant, which they did not think possible with Edward being immortal and all. Now, with an unknown fetus sucking the life out of Bella, and the Quileute tribe plotting to destroy Bella and the foreign life inside of her, Edward and Jacob Taylor Lautner must team up to save Bella once again. Edward, trying to convince Bella to get rid of the life that might destroy her, and Jacob, rebelling against his tribe to save the girl he will never fully have.

THE MOVIE:

I really tried to give this film a second chance to officially “WOW me” this time, and I can say that my mind has still not changed. As  much as I love the story, and for the most part I enjoyed the movie (on a superficial, girly, I can’t believe I fall for this crap level), it was horrible at parts. Is it just me, or was the acting even worse than the other three films… especially Ashley Greene as Alice. She just didn’t seem to fit, and was overacting when others weren’t. It was very strange to watch. Also, there are a couple of really goofy camera angles at the beginning that reminded me of a student film project rather than a major Hollywood film, and not in a good way.

I have made no secret that I think that when the Quileute turn into their wolf state, it looks awful. This was even worse to me the second time that I watched it! The dialog between the wolves is terrible! This was, by far, the worst part of the film. At least the wigs were better this time around.

Still, Kristen Stewart played her best Bella performance to date, and if you are a sucker for a good love story then you will enjoy this film.

You can read my full review HERE

THE BLU-RAY:

Audio: English: DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 Spanish: Dolby Digital 5.1

The film sounds terrific. Simply put, this movie sounds crisp and clear.

Video:  Video codec: MPEG-4 AVC Video resolution: 1080p Original aspect ratio: 2.39:1

The transition from big screen to home theater is stunning. The Blu-Ray really delivers as far as picture quality. The lines are sharp, and the colors are stunning.

BONUS FEATURES:

6 PART MAKING OF DOCUMENTARY: Fans will LOVE this!!! The entire cast participates as they go through details of filming Part 1. It takes us through the making of Bella’s dress and how they kept it secret, the wedding, and about some of their special wedding guests. It’s a must for any Twilight fan.

EDWARD AND BELLA’S WEDDING VIDEO: This is just a funny little extra that shows the cast wishing the new couple well.

JACOB’S DESTINY: This little feature shows the growth of Jacob as he transforms from boy to wolf. See, there is something for you Jacob fans as well.

Commentary with Director Bill Condon: I think it was a bad move to only have the director do the commentary on this one. This is Twilight. The fans want to hear the actors. I found him rather fascinating, and Condon does offer a few nice bits of trivia, but I think that most fans are going to be a bit disappointed.

Where are the deleted scenes? Maybe some extended scenes, alternate scenes, or even a gag reel? I understand that they are probably saving these for a final release, but it’s starting to get pretty disappointing when the bonus features keep getting cut down so you’ll fork over more money on a re-release of the movie, or a super deluxe edition.

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 1 – The Review

As a fan of the Twilight series books, THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 1 was enjoyable, yet awful! Confused? It’s ok… You’re old pal Melissa will explain.

I have made no secret that I think that when the Quileute turn into their wolf state, that it looks awful. This time, they took it one step further by letting us actually hear the dialog between them as they spoke to one another in wolf form. This was, by far, the worst part of the film. I can’t even begin to tell you how absolutely awful it was!!! Fake, tacky CGI wolves speaking to each other in horrible voice over… UGH! At least the wigs were better this time around.

Now that we have started with the bad news, let’s move on to the positive portion of my review. If you are a sucker (no pun intended) like I am for old school romance, you will still enjoy this film. There is something about the way that Edward loves Bella that is classic and timeless. He’s not texting her to ask her out, or meeting her up at a bar and calling it a date… he is a gentleman. That is few and far between these days.

Kristen Stewart actually impressed me this time. She seemed a bit off as Bella in the past few films, but this one… she really fell into character and I was impressed. Robert Pattinson plays Edward the same as he always has, and he really does it well. Taylor Lautner has gotten better as Jacob, and is really growing as an actor. Having said that, I am kind of getting sick of his emo moments where he gets upset and storms off. It’s not SHOWGIRLS people!

They ended PART 1 right where I thought they would. This story concentrates on the marriage and birth of their baby. For those of you that have read the books, you know what is in store for PART 2, and ending this one where they did leaves plenty of room to concentrate on the final parts of the last book. It was a wise decision.

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN -PART 1 will leave fans of the films and books happy. If you are not a fan then I am sorry, you will most likely not enjoy this!

Win Passes To THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 1 Screening In St. Louis

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 1 brings back the major cast from all the previous films (Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner) and introduces five new vampire characters making up the Denali Coven. The much-loved and globally recognizable actors playing Bella, Edward, and Jacob… as well as the Cullens, Wolves, Humans, and Volturi are all back. Julia Jones and Booboo Stewart’s roles become more prominent in this chapter, as Leah and Seth Clearwater join Jacob’s new wolf pack.

All are joined by new cast members: MyAnna Buring as Tanya Denali, Casey LaBow as Kate Denali, and Maggie Grace as Irina Denali, as well as Christian Camargo as Eleazar Denali and Mia Maestro as Carmen Denali. In addition to the Denali Coven, dozens of new supernatural characters hailing from countries around the globe – including Egypt, Brazil, Ireland, Romania, England, the United States, Italy, and France – will be seen in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.

Grace is excited for the fans to see the films. “We’re really honoring the book, and Stephenie is here and a big part of things,” she says. “Plus, the vampire side is fun and the mythology is fun. I understand that sense of wanting to get things right, the fans’ real commitment to detail, because I am a Jane Austen freak myself, so I do understand the feeling of ‘They can’t cut out that monologue!’ I do get that, but I think the fans will be happy.”

Even the new cast members were recognized by the series’ legions of supporters. “The fans are very serious about this. They’re all over the internet… that community is alive with discussion and information being passed,” says LaBow. “But fans are also outside the hotel, they keep their distance and are respectful – they just want to take a picture and say that they met one of us… have this tangible experience versus experiencing the phenomenon from a distance, via the screen or pictures in magazines. They’ve been so engrossed in these books and sometimes they tremble when they come up to you… they’re so excited. ‘We’re big Twilight fans, will you please sign.’ It’s really endearing and special. Twilight fans are a specific breed of devotee. It’s nice to see that they really care, it’s very important to them, and they make me feel proud to be a part of it.”
