THE APPARITION Trailer Is Freaky Scary – Stars Tom Felton, Ashley Green & Sebastian Stan

Dark Castle Entertainment To Partner With IM Global & After Dark Films On New SYLVESTER STALLONE Action Thriller

BURBANK, CA, June 13, 2011 — Dark Castle Entertainment will partner with IM Global and After Dark Films on director Walter Hill’s upcoming action thriller starring Sylvester Stallone, it was announced jointly by the three companies.

The film is scheduled to begin production on location in Louisiana later this month and will be distributed domestically by Warner Bros. Pictures, under its ongoing arrangement with Dark Castle.

Based on the graphic novel Bullet to the Head, written by Matz and illustrated by Colin Wilson, it tells the story of a New Orleans hitman (Stallone) and a New York City cop who form an alliance to bring down the killers of their respective partners.

Joel Silver, Chairman of Dark Castle Entertainment, previously produced the Stallone films “Demolition Man” and “Assassins.” He says, “Sylvester Stallone is an iconic action star the world over and I’m thrilled to be working with him again. I look forward to joining with IM Global and After Dark in bringing this exciting new story to the screen.”

Says IM Global CEO Stuart Ford, “Joel and his Dark Castle team are the perfect partners to help steer a project like this successfully forward and we’re delighted to have them onboard, as well as having Warner Bros. as the U.S. distribution home for the film.”

Silver’s previous creative collaborations with veteran director Hill include the box-office hit “48 Hours,” “Warriors” and HBO’s long-running “Tales from the Crypt.”

The new film, a Warner Bros. Pictures presentation, in association with Dark Castle Entertainment, IM Global and After Dark Films, also features rising star Sung Kang (“Fast Five,” “Ninja Assassin”) in a key supporting role. Additionally serving as producers will be Alexandra Milchan, Miles Millar, Alfred Gough, Kevin King-Templeton and Andrew Rona. Everything’s Coming Up Barbra!

Barbra Streisand to star in the movie remake of GYPSY…does that sound like a good idea?

It’s a tremendous idea! Barbra would be breathtaking as Mama Rose and a project like this has the potential to be one of the greatest adaptations in film history, not to mention it would be a great bookend performance for La Streisand. And the score won’t have to be altered for a less capable actress/singer.

Ok so Barbra’s on board – but who would direct? It has to be someone strong enough to direct Barbra in her first musical in over 30 years. It’s a daunting task for even a seasoned director – she’s a handful…and on a musical?!?

Barbra Streisand has met with Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents to discuss starring as Rose, the mother of all stage mamas, in a film version of their 1959 musical “Gypsy,” the two men said in telephone interviews on Wednesday. Mr. Laurents, who wrote the book for “Gypsy” and directed its 2008 revival on Broadway starring Patti LuPone, said that Warner Brothers and Joel Silver were attached as producers, but that no director had been chosen.

Contrary to a report in The New York Post on Wednesday, Mr. Laurents said that Ms. Streisand would not direct the film; she once wanted to, he said, “but playing Rose is enough to make her happy.” Ms. Streisand, who won an Academy Award for best actress in 1968 for the film musical FUNNY GIRL, has been interested in doing GYPSY for many years, Mr. Laurents said, “but now things are serious and a movie is truly in the works.”

As for the rest of the casting, Tom Hanks’ name has come up for the role of Herbie, the former agent turned manager. I would’ve gone for Dustin Hoffman as Herbie, but Tom Hanks is good. He’s the perfect type – it was Jack Klugman in the original Broadway production with Ethel Merman; and Karl Malden in the 1962 movie with Rosalind Russell (so you can see where they are going with this).

Natalie Wood starred as the shy older sister Louise in the movie. I think Anne Hathaway would be perfect in this role. She is the right type and she can really sing! And while I’m granting myself wishes, Baby June should be played by Kristen Bell; and Tulsa, the boy she elopes with would be a perfect vehicle for the talents of Joseph Gordon Levitt – “Make ‘Em Laugh” on SNL anyone? Genius. Well, here’s hoping!

Liam Neeson In Trailer For UNKNOWN

Synopsis:

Dr. Martin Harris (Liam Neeson) awakens after a car accident in Berlin to discover that his wife (January Jones) suddenly doesn’t recognize him and another man (Aidan Quinn) has assumed his identity. Ignored by disbelieving authorities and hunted by mysterious assassins, he finds himself alone, tired, and on the run.

Aided by an unlikely ally (Diane Kruger), Martin plunges headlong into a deadly mystery that will force him to question his sanity, his identity, and just how far he’s willing to go to uncover the truth.

Academy Award® nominee Liam Neeson (SCHINDLER’S LIST), Diane Kruger (INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS) and January Jones (TV’s “Mad Men”) star in the contemporary thriller UNKNOWN. UNKNOWN was shot entirely in Germany, using Studio Babelsberg, the oldest large-scale studio complex in the world. Studio Babelsberg is also a co-producer on the film, under an agreement with Silver’s Dark Castle Entertainment. Locations also included Berlin and Leipzig.

Stephen Fry Joins HOLMES 2 Cast

THR is reporting of actor Stephen Fry’s latest role:

Stephen Fry is the latest to jump aboard SHERLOCK HOLMES 2, joining the Warner Bros. sequel as Holmes’ brother, Mycroft Holmes.

The British actor-comedian, perhaps best known in America for his recurring role on TV’s “Bones” and for his BBC miniseries “Stephen Fry in America,” revealed the casting news on a BBC radio show.

I’m more particularly fond of Fry’s role of Jeeves, butler and valet to Hugh Laurie’s (House) daft Bertie Wooster in the ITV series Jeeves and Wooster.

Anyway, THR goes on to say:

Fry’s boarding follows the casting of Noomi Rapace, the Swedish star of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, who two weeks ago signed on as the female lead in the movie, which reunites most of the team from the original: Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes and Jude Law as Dr. Watson. Guy Ritchie is back as director while Joel Silver, Susan Downey, Lionel Wigram and Dan Lin return as producers.

In the books by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Mycroft Holmes is the famous detective’s more intelligent older brother, who has a top but mysterious position in the British government, but who also happens to be lazier than Sherlock Holmes. Sources say the character in the sequel’s script is described as “an agoraphobic oddball.”

HOLMES 2 is scheduled to be released December 16, 2011. Btw, Fry has two absolutely funny Twitter pages that are always good for a laugh – the official one here and the other as “Stephen’s poor, downtrodden wife & mother of his five or six kids, Mrs. Stephen Fry, here.

Noomi Rapace Cast in SHERLOCK HOLMES 2

THR is reporting that DRAGON star, Noomi Rapace, has landed a role in SHERLOCK 2 – her first English-language role.

Noomi Rapace, the Swedish star of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, has booked her first English-language role: the plum part of the female lead in Warner Bros.’s SHERLOCK HOLMES 2.

The sequel reunites most of the team from the original: Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes and Jude Law as Dr. Watson. Guy Ritchie is back as director while Joel Silver, Susan Downey, Lionel Wigram and Dan Lin return as producers. 

The logline is being kept under wraps, although it is known Holmes will face off against Moriarty. Also making an appearance will be Holmes’ brother, Mycroft.

Rapace’s role is shrouded in mystery although sources say the character may be a French Gypsy. It is unclear if the role is romantic in nature. Warners is looking to start production later this year.

SHERLOCK HOLMES 2 Steals Guy Ritchie from LOBO

With the relative box office success of SHERLOCK HOLMES, despite fending off Cameron’s AVATAR juggernaut, producer Joel Silver says director Guy Ritchie has decided to give LOBO the cold shoulder in favor of a quick and dirty SHERLOCK HOLMES sequel. OK, so maybe that’s not the kindest way to put it… I’m sure the sequel will rock as much as the first film, but it seems the drive is to enter into production as quickly as possible in an attempt to ride the box office aftermath of the first outing. While we’re anticipating the sequel and, perhaps, Brad Pitt as Moriarty… OK! I’m game… what of LOBO?

I’ve never been much of a reader of DC Comics, but even I know and love LOBO… the last Czarnian, an alien being, mercenary and bounty hunter with a rich sarcasm knack for parody… first appeared in comics back in 1983. The interstellar commando of cool is wild, unabashed and, oh yeah… unable to die. Honestly, this is a property I’ve felt is somewhat in that “unfilmable” category, understandably difficult to do justice as a live-action film, but I was curious to see what Guy Ritchie would do with the movie. Now, with that likely off the table altogether for Ritchie, what’s next? Who ought to take over directing the LOBO film? Chime in, give us your thoughts.

No ‘Masters of the Universe’ for Warner Brothers

It looks like we might be waiting a little longer for another ‘Masters of the Universe’ film.   According to Variety, Warner Brothers and Mattel are parting ways on the adaptation due to differences on the direction of the project.   WB and producer Joel Silver have been working on getting the film completed since 2007.

Mattel is taking back sole rights to the property, while ‘Kung Fu Panda’ director John Stevenson is still on board to helm the film.   No telling who Mattel may turn to to get the project off the ground.   They could be growing desperate, since a ‘Masters of the Universe’ re-adaptation has been in the works for a number of years.   The latest script treatment, titled ‘Grayskull,’ on the project came from Justin Marks, who has also had a script for ‘Voltron’ ending up in development hell.

While the idea of a floating property like ‘Masters of the Universe’ may seem tantalizing to some studios, there don’t appear to be any surefire, hit brands any more, unless you’re dealing with mainstay comic series, and WB and Disney seem to have those all wrapped up.   The latest branded toyline to get feature film treatment, ‘G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,’ hasn’t hit their budget price of $175 in the states yet, though that film has grossed just over $280 worldwide.   And, while studios may be seeing dollar signs in their eyes from films like ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,’ that level of money-making is never a guarantee but more a phenomenon that goes against the rule.   Surely, Mattel won’t have any problem selling a ‘Masters of the Universe’ project to a studio, but they shouldn’t expect their doors to be knocked down.

Speaking of Kate Beckinsale, Warner Brothers has released on MySpace this frosty poster for ‘Whiteout.’   Directed by Dominic Sena (‘Gone in Sixty Seconds,’ ‘Swordfish’),  the story follows  lone Antartica U.S. deputy marshal’s, (Kate Beckinsale), investigation of  a murder on the frozen continent.  She and UN operative (Gabriel Macht) must try to solve the crime  within three days before the sun sets for sixth months.

Liam Neeson is an ‘Unknown White Male’

After the tragedy that befell Liam Neeson’s house earlier this year, it’s great to see that he’s keeping himself preoccupied with project after project.   In addition to ‘Clash of the Titans’ and voice work in the new ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ movie, he’s all but set on playing Hannibal in the ‘A-Team’ adaptation for Joe Carnahan.

Today comes word, too, from The Hollywood Reporter, that Neeson has signed on to star in ‘Unknown White Male’ for Joel Silver and Dark Castle films.   Directed by ‘Orphan’ helmer Jaume Collet-Serra and written by Karl Gajdusek (story editor for “Dead Like Me”), the film centers around a man who awakens from a coma to discover he has been replaced by another man, one with more devious intentions.

Filming is set to get underway in January in Berlin.
