“Finally!” James Gunn Releases First Video Of Jason Momoa As Lobo In SUPERGIRL

DC Studios’ SUPERGIRL will be in theaters worldwide this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures, starring Milly Alcock in the dual role of Supergirl/Kara Zor-El. When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.

Alcock stars alongside Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Jason Momoa.

Today James Gunn, who helmed 2025’s SUPERMAN, released this video of Momoa as Lobo via his social media outlets.

Lobo! Considering his name means “he who devours your entrails and thoroughly enjoys it” in his native tongue, perhaps they shouldn’t have been too surprised. Lobo took his predilection for murder and mayhem along with his rocket-fueled motorcycle and went on to become the best bounty hunter in the galaxy. ” As an intergalactic bounty hunter and self-branded “Main Man,” Lobo’s gigs take him all over the universe, but he never lingers for long because there’s always someone or something else to apprehend, preferably as painfully as possible.

Craig Gillespie directs SUPERGIRL from a screenplay by Ana Nogueira and hits theaters June 26.

SHERLOCK HOLMES 2 Steals Guy Ritchie from LOBO

With the relative box office success of SHERLOCK HOLMES, despite fending off Cameron’s AVATAR juggernaut, producer Joel Silver says director Guy Ritchie has decided to give LOBO the cold shoulder in favor of a quick and dirty SHERLOCK HOLMES sequel. OK, so maybe that’s not the kindest way to put it… I’m sure the sequel will rock as much as the first film, but it seems the drive is to enter into production as quickly as possible in an attempt to ride the box office aftermath of the first outing. While we’re anticipating the sequel and, perhaps, Brad Pitt as Moriarty… OK! I’m game… what of LOBO?

I’ve never been much of a reader of DC Comics, but even I know and love LOBO… the last Czarnian, an alien being, mercenary and bounty hunter with a rich sarcasm knack for parody… first appeared in comics back in 1983. The interstellar commando of cool is wild, unabashed and, oh yeah… unable to die. Honestly, this is a property I’ve felt is somewhat in that “unfilmable” category, understandably difficult to do justice as a live-action film, but I was curious to see what Guy Ritchie would do with the movie. Now, with that likely off the table altogether for Ritchie, what’s next? Who ought to take over directing the LOBO film? Chime in, give us your thoughts.

‘Red Dawn’ Gains a Comedian

jeffrey dean morgan comedian

From ‘Watchmen’ to Wolverines, it appears Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be joining the cast of the upcoming ‘Red Dawn’ remake.  He told as such to Coming Soon.  Morgan will be joining a cast that already includes Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck, Adrianne Palicki, Josh Hutcherson, Isabel Lucas, Connor Cruise and Edwin Hodge.  Dan Bradley, second unit director on films like ‘Swordfish,’ ‘Spider-Man 2 & 3,’ and ‘Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls,’ will be stepping up into the director’s chair.

Morgan also told Coming Soon who he would be playing in the film:

I guess I’m more or less the old Powers Booth character.  There’s all the kids and Powers Booth is the pilot that lands in the film and kind of helps them take down the bad guys. Blow communism away. It’s a really good, young cast. I’ll be the old guy in it, which is cool.

‘Red Dawn’ begins shooting soon in Detroit, MI with a release date of September 2010 slated.

Morgan also revealed to Coming Soon that he would like to play the lead character in Guy Ritchie’s adaptation of the DC comic ‘Lobo.’  We’ll have more word on that if anything develops.

Guy Ritchie Taking on ‘Lobo’

lobo

No, not Lobo Marunga, and, yes, Steve Guttenberg, for all intents and purposes, is still retired.  And, if you get that reference, then I feel as bad for you as I do myself.  Guy Ritchie is, however, setting out to bring the DC comic book ‘Lobo’ to the big screen.  According to Variety, Ritchie has locked the deal with Warner Brothers, and it will be his follow-up to ‘Sherlock Holmes,’ set for release this coming Christmas.

The comic book followed an alien bounty hunter with an incredibly bad attitude.  The guy was basically a blue viking who rode around on a space motorcycle and chomped on giant cigars.  At one point, Lobo even came to Earth and took out Santa and his elves.  That one-shot traumatized me as a child.

The screenplay for this film, however, has been written by Don Payne.  He previously wrote ‘My Super Ex-Girlfriend,’ which we won’t hold against him, and ‘4: Rise of the Silver Surfer,’ for which we will.  The film looks to visit Lobo’s first appearance in comics as he comes to Earth to take out four fugitives.

While some of Lobo comics are strictly for mature audiences only, WB is aiming for a PG-13 rating.  Production begins early next year.  There is no word, yet, on who will be playing the 7-foot, blue badass.
