The best intentions often come back to haunt you. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT finds Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team (Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames) along with some familiar allies (Rebecca Ferguson, Michelle Monaghan) in a race against time after a mission gone wrong. Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.
Cruise is joined by a cast including Annabelle Wallis (upcoming King Arthur, television’s Peaky Blinders), Jake Johnson (Jurassic World), Courtney B. Vance (TV’s American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson) and Oscar® winner Russell Crowe (Gladiator).
The creative team on this action-adventure event is led by director/producer Alex Kurtzman and producer Chris Morgan, who have been instrumental in growing some of the most successful franchises of the past several years—with Kurtzman writing or producing entries in the Transformers, Star Trek and Mission: Impossible series, and Morgan being the narrative engineer of the Fast & Furious saga as it has experienced explosive growth from its third chapter on. Sean Daniel, who produced the most recent Mummy trilogy, produces alongside Kurtzman and Morgan.
The film is written by Jon Spaihts and Christopher McQuarrie.
MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – ROGUE NATION, the fifth film in the blockbuster franchise, has crossed the $300 million milestone at the worldwide box office. The film has earned $118.5 million domestically, with an additional $184.6 million from overseas markets.
Directed by Christopher McQuarrie and starring Tom Cruise, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – ROGUE NATION debuted at #1 in North America and many international markets, grossing more than $150 million in its first week of release.
Internationally, the film’s success was bolstered by #1 openings in such major territories as Korea, UK, Mexico, Australia, Spain, Russia and Argentina, and achieved franchise-breaking numbers in India, Korea, UK, Mexico, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Russia. International territories still to open include France, Brazil, and Italy. The film will release in China on September 8, in collaboration with partners Alibaba Pictures and China Movie Channel.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – ROGUE NATION is now playing in IMAX theatres
Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible franchise is like a series of demo reels for top directors (Brian DePalma, John Woo, J.J. Abrams, Brad Bird) to take turns showing off all the assorted ways they can film their star (and producer) running, fighting, shooting, driving, looking cool, and performing eye-popping physical feats. There’s not much continuity connecting the MI films, and it seems no big film series has ever had a leading character quite as scantily-developed as Cruise’s Ethan Hunt. MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: ROGUE NATION is the fifth film in this series and I still don’t know much about him. But it doesn’t matter. Director Christopher McQuarrie takes the reigns for the newest installment and while it may not add up to much more than the sum of its parts, those parts include an exotic trip around the world, an engaging script, funny dialogue and spectacular stunts for one exhilarating summer ride.
MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: ROGUE NATION opens with the CIA brass Hunsley (Alec Baldwin) shutting down the Impossible Mission Force just as they were closing in on a diabolical terror cell known as The Syndicate led by Solomon Lane (Sean Harris). Ethan (Cruise) goes underground for a few months before calling out teammate Benji (Simon Pegg) to help try and foil a political assassination in Vienna. With the CIA believing that Ethan was behind the attempt, Brandt (Jeremy Renner) enlists the questionably loyal Ilsa (Rebecca Ferguson) to help track him down, leading to a showdown with Lane. The plot is secondary for what makes MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: ROGUE NATION so special is Cruise and McQuarrie’s giddy knack for momentum, spinning Ethan and his crew from one ridiculously dangerous situation to another. Watch Tom’s car flip end over end a dozen times before he crawls out and hops on a motorcycle to continue the chase and applaud the age-defying 53-year old actor. The 007-style opening with Cruise hanging on to the door of an ascending transport plane is a five-star experience and represents everything you want from an action film. The show-stopping assassination sequence at an Opera House contains wonderful Buster Keaton-style choreography involving curtains, catwalks, and a lethal flute, and there’s another complex scene where Ethan must hold his breath for several minutes longer than expected while trying to seize a crucial computer chip from an underwater source.
Cruise is in enthusiastic form as usual, throwing himself into his stunt work with near-suicidal bravado. Pegg, Renner, and Ving Rhames provide levity, Alec Baldwin fits right in, and Rebecca Ferguson is a sexy and worthy leading lady. But Cruise is the straight man foundation of the series and takes every action beat in stride – always moving, running, and thinking – he’s terrific. The mission itself may be a bit underwhelming and the central villain something of a dud (Sean Harris’ most distinguishing feature is his weak chin), but MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: ROGUE NATION is an adrenaline-rush adventure on a grand scale and is highly recommended.

Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson and director Christopher McQuarrie hit the red carpet and received an enthusiastic welcome from fans as MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – ROGUE NATION had its world premiere at the State Opera House in Vienna.
Cruise thanked the large crowd for being “incredible” and felt “very privileged to make the film for the fans.”
McQuarrie also mentioned to be on the lookout for easter eggs in the fifth installment of the blockbuster franchise.
“I’m a bit of a bad-ass,” quipped Pegg about the thrilling car chase scene.

IMAX, Paramount Pictures, and Skydance today announced that the fifth installment of the blockbuster franchise, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – ROGUE NATION , will premiere July 23 at the State Opera House in Vienna, which is being specially transformed into an IMAX theatre for this one-night global event. The film begins its worldwide roll-out in IMAX theatres on July 31.
For the red-carpet event and screening, the historic Vienna State Opera House is receiving a makeover of IMAX proportions exclusively for this premiere.
During the past three days, IMAX’s team has equipped the opera house with an IMAX screen measuring approximately 56 feet by 37 feet, IMAX’s proprietary dual-projection system and a custom sound system configured and tuned to optimize the playback of the film’s IMAX soundtrack in this unique environment.
This marks the second time IMAX has transformed an iconic venue for a one-night-only global premiere following Paramount’s Transformers: Age of Extinction in June 2014.
Attending the world premiere in Vienna is MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – ROGUE NATION director Christopher McQuarrie; stars Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg and Rebecca Ferguson; and producers Bryan Burk, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger.
