MAMMA MIA! HERE WE GO AGAIN is produced by Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman, producers of the original film. Craymer is also the creator and producer of the worldwide smash-hit stage musical.

Ol Parker, writer of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, writes and directs the sequel from a story by Catherine Johnson, Richard Curtis and Parker. Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus return to provide music and lyrics and serve as executive producers. Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Phyllida Lloyd, Richard Curtis and Nicky Kentish Barnes also serve as executive producers.

As the film goes back and forth in time to show how relationships forged in the past resonate in the present, James will play the role of Young Donna. Filling the roles of Young Rosie and Young Tanya are Alexa Davies (A Brilliant Young Mind) and Jessica Keenan Wynn (Broadway’s Beautiful). Young Sam will be played by Jeremy Irvine (War Horse), while Young Bill is Josh Dylan (Allied) and Young Harry is Hugh Skinner (Kill Your Friends).

11/8 UPDATE: THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT !!!!……sorry!

“I have a feeling this is going to be just delicious.”

Loretta Castorini Clark (Cher in her Oscar-winning role) is not a lucky woman, it seems. Widowed by a freak bus accident, she wiles away her thirties as a self-employed accountant who lives with her aging family under the skyscrapers of New York City. Just as she readies herself for a loveless marriage with the sweet-but-simple Johnny Cammarini (Danny Aiello), love strikes in the form of Johnny’s bitter brother Ronny (Nicolas Cage). Can Loretta do the right thing, even if she doesn’t quite know what that is?

Moonstruck-1987-movies-18785779-1280-800

MOONSTRUCK is a comedy that works in serious themes, like death, infidelity, faith, hopelessness, and of course food, making it the perfect film for a night with the Tenacious Eats chefs and their Movies for Foodies series. MOONSTRUCK is the latest movie to watch while eating and the event happens next Tuesday, November 12th This is a one-of-a-kind event where food is prepared and plated in front of you, in the form of a 5-course gourmet meal, while you watch a film on the big screen. Tenacious Eats only works with locally produced food procured by them and hard-to-find ingredients imported from places that specialize in them. For each new film, the folks at Tenacious Eats write a new menu specific to that movie’s story. Sometimes the menu is literal and sometimes it is inspired interpretation. In all cases, each dining experience is different because each film is different. By integrating film and food, Movies for Foodies creates an original experience, a feast for the senses, an event that brings food and film, chefs and diners together.

The location is Meyer’s Grove at 4510 Manchester in St. Louis. The doors open at 6pm, and MOONSTRUCK begins at 8pm.

Cher to Kick Off TCM’s New FRIDAY NIGHT SPOTLIGHT – A Woman’s World: The Defining Era of Women In Film

Robert_Cher23260_001_0256_v02_PC_R3

CHER, the Oscar®, Emmy®, Grammy®, Cannes Film Festival and three-time Golden Globe® award winner is set to be the first host of Friday Night Spotlight, a brand new film showcase launching April 5 on Turner Classic Movies (TCM). TCM host Robert Osborne will join Cher to kick off the franchise with A Woman’s World: The Defining Era of Women in Film, a collection of 17 films handpicked by Cher to illustrate the evolving roles of women from the late 1930s to the early ’50s. Each month thereafter, Friday Night Spotlight will feature a celebrity or expert host who will take viewers through a collection of films focusing on a specific topic.

A Woman’s World: The Defining Era of Women in Film will start Friday, April 5, at 8 p.m. (ET) with Cher and Osborne hosting a night of movies focusing on motherhood, beginning with Joan Crawford’s Oscar®-winning performance in Mildred Pierce (1945).

Subsequent Fridays in April will feature films about the war effort and life on the homefront (April 12), working women (April 19) and women taking charge (April 26).

“Working with Robert isn’t like working at all! We can’t stop taking about the classics and obscure golden oldies. We talk though the breaks while they move the cameras, check the lighting and do the touch-ups. I can’t stop when it comes to the subject of old films, and then I get Robert going, and then the crew and director finally say, ‘Ahh, Cher? We have a show to do.’ Robert and I laugh and become gown-ups again. We don’t work. We play every Friday night in April! Come have fun with us,” commented Cher.

Cher last appeared on the network with Robert Osborne as a Guest Programmer in September 2011.

“It’s a great pleasure to be joining Cher in launching TCM’s new Friday Night Spotlight series,” said Osborne. “Besides being an Academy Award winning actress and an electrifying stage performer, Cher loves movies, knows movies and has fascinating things to say about them. Review: BURLESQUE

Ok, so this is not the Oscar flick of the year… But if you like fun, then you have come to the right place…

It’s your typical story of a small town girl who makes her way to Los Angeles in search of stardom. What isn’t typical about this story is her voice! Ali (Christina Aguilera) has what it takes, she is just looking for her shot. After a long day of searching she wanders into The Burlesque Lounge, and is mesmerized by the lights, and the girls. Now, she has to convince Tess (Cher), the clubs owner that she has what it takes to shine on the Lounge stage. Meanwhile, Tess is faced with the reality that she does not have the funding to keep her precious club open. The two must rely on each other to make their dreams come true.

Ok, so Aguilera is not the best actress out there. Let’s face it, she is far from it! However, people aren’t really coming to theaters to watch her act. The fun of this movie is the musical numbers. Aguilera shines in these scenes. Her showmanship is something that cannot really be argued. They did put some pretty horrible wigs on her though. Kristen Bell plays Nikki, the star of the show with a bad attitude. She lets her ego and drinking ruin her place at the top, and holds Ali responsible. I have always liked Bell, and it was nice to see her in a different role. Julianne Hough was a nice addition, due to her strong dancing. I don’t know how much I really want to see her in other films, but she was a great addition to this cast. Plus, her dancing is quite stunning.

Cher, is in a league all her own. I have always loved Cher! I found myself mesmerized when she sang, and her snarly attitude is highly entertaining. Like I said, this movie is more about musical numbers than it is on story, but Tess is a very like-able character. Maybe I just appreciate a well delivered smart ass. That is quite possible. Either way, I LOVE ME SOME CHER! Also, this isn’t her first rodeo. Cher has starred in a plethora of movies and television shows, so she is no stranger to the big screen. Heck, Cher is no stranger to anything big… just look at her stage show and costumes. (I will see her live one day, dammit!)

There are some great supporting roles in this film as well. Stanley Tucci plays Tess’s best gay friend. It seems appropriate that Cher is accompanied by a gay best friend. even if it is for her character. Peter Gallagher, Alan Cumming, and Eric Dane also make appearances in this film. I must say, Cumming is quite hilarious in his role. He has quite the… interesting… musical number.

I found the soundtrack really enjoyable too! I have been playing it in my car for days. They keep the music fun and highly entertaining. Fuse this with beautiful lighting, talented dancers, and incredible costumes for the stage show and you have a winner. If a place existed like this in St. Louis, it would sell out every night. The only negative part is the Marilyn Manson-Beautiful People sample. Manson and Aguilera DO NOT belong together. It’s like cotton candy and sushi… Both are delicious in their own way, but together they are just gross.

This is the part of my review where I make enemies. I have witnessed a lot of burlesque dancers that are very pissed off at this film. They say that it is not real burlesque and that it is an embarrassment to their art. Now, I have seen a lot of burlesque… some good, some HORRIBLE. One thing that most burlesque (notice I say most, not all) performers are missing is a talent to go along with the removal of their clothes. This is not just specific to my town. The thing I appreciate in this film is that they don’t rely on being naked to make their performance. It is an art, and nudity of some sort generally goes with it, but the nudity isn’t their talent. They are dancing, and singing. The strip tease is just a part of it. (And spoiler, you will not see any nudity in this film). I am just saying, the talent part of burlesque has gotten lost in many of today’s performances due to over-saturation. It’s kind of like DJ’s. Everyone thinks that they are a DJ but only a fraction of them are actually talented in their musical selection/performances. The rest just go through the motions. Exact same thing with burlesque.

So, to sum it up… If you are looking for some fun, then this is the film for you. If you want to be moved to tears, go rent THE NOTEBOOK!

OVERALL RATING: 3.5 out of 5 stars
