Bill Moseley took the time to talk to We Are Movie Geeks about his newest film 3 FROM HELL, director Rob Zombie’s long-awaited sequel to THE DEVIL’S REJECTS
Interview conducted by Tom Stockman September 5th, 2019
Tom Stockman: Hi Bill
Bill Moseley: Hello Tom
TS: I’m calling from St. Louis. I met you hear about a decade ago when you attended a screening hear of REPO: THE GENETIC OPERA
BM: Oh right, I remember that.
TS: And I’ve met you several times, the first time being close to 30 years ago at a Fangoria Convention do you like doing those type of conventions?
BM: Oh I love them. In fact I’m here right now in Louisville Kentucky for a convention called Days of the Dead
TS: Are you surprised at how many Otis and Chop Top tattoos you see?
BM: I’m not really. When you get the idea that people get a tattoo like that to memorialize or commemorate their love for a certain character that they saw at a certain time in their lives, It’s humbling. It keeps me from being more of a dick! If someone is committed to having a tattoo of you on their arm or whatever, you don’t want to be a jerk and make them think they’ve done something they’ll regret. I get really excited when I see those and I wanna make sure that they are happy with those
TS: Let’s talk about 3 FROM HELL, I’ve seen it and I think it’s a worthy sequel to THE DEVIL’S REJECTS. Have you seen it yet?
BM: I have. First I saw a rough cut, and then finally I ended up talking to a lot of people in the press, and realized that they had seen the final cut, and I hadn’t! So I finally got a link and watched the final film
TS: You said you saw a rough cut. It’s only showing here in St. Louis for three nights. Did they have to cut some of the violence out of it for this version that will be showing at theaters soon?
BM: No. The rough cut was missing a lot of it’s soundtrack and wasn’t color-corrected. So the final film was a lot different than the rough-cut, especially with all the music which gives the film much of its atmosphere, but nothing was missing between the rough-cut and the final film in terms of violence.
TS: Are you excited about going out and promoting this character Otis Firefly again, and why did it take 12 years to get a sequel?
BM: That’s more of a question for Rob Zombie. I really have no idea If had been up to me, I would have done a sequel right away. I was very happy with the way that he decided to do it. I’ve been going to conventions now for years with Sid Haig and when horror fans would walk up to us and ask if there was going to be a sequel, I would turn to Sid and ask “Hey Sid! Is there going to be a sequel!?“ And Sid would say “No“, then we’d say in unison “Because we’re fucking dead!“
TS: Rob Zombie performs with his band a lot so perhaps that had something to do with the delay.
BM: Well there’s that but I think it really has to do with the poor marksmanship of the Ruggsville Sheriffs Department I mean here we are hurtling towards them in the Cadillac and they’re shooting their hearts out, but they couldn’t quite bring us down. Really because they were shitty shots! That to me was the most logical way to keep us alive and well. Or if not well, at least alive Also, consider the alternatives. Did somebody awaken for the dream? The cheesiest of all Hollywood devices?! Another alternative could be that we did die, then went to hell and the Devil rejected us, hence the title. But then we’d be supernatural! I think it’s best to just blame the Ruggsville sheriff department and their lousy marksmanship
TS: Yeah, Baby Firefly doesn’t seem to be hurt at all, dancing around and such.
BM: Well, you figure we’ve been in prison for 10 or 12 years when this new film starts, so that gave us time to heal. And I will say about the Driftwood and the Fireflys, we have regenerative power!
TS: Were you involved in the script for 3 FROM HELL? Was there much improv involved in the film?
BM: Not really. The script was pretty tight There wasn’t really any need for improve. There were a couple of things that I improvised in THE DEVIL’S REJECTS. Not that much though. If you compare that to my role in THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2, in which I think about 50% of my lines were improvised. But in this Rob zombie trilogy, we pretty much stuck to the script.
TS: Yes there is some really good writing in this new film, especially in some of those scenes where you and Richard Brake are having some conversations that are so dark and funny.
BM: Richard Brake did improvise some of those lines. When he started going off about Salami Man, That to me was so funny! That was Richard just coming up with stuff! Everybody in front of and behind the camera was cracking up during that stuff. I hope when the film comes out on DVD, there will be some sort of behind the scenes so we can show some of that footage of that. I’m sure there were some time constraints on how long the scene could be, but he was so funny. He was awesome. And a great addition to the family I might add.
TS: Between Chop Top and Otis, you have had so many great lines. Do you have a favorite line that you have said on screen?
BM: Well with Chop Top, I would definitely say it was in character “Lick my plate you dog dick!“, Which I did make up on the spot back in Austin Texas in 1986. My family made us eat all of our food and I had to be part of the’ clean plate’ club. That kind of inspired that line With Otis I would have to say “I am the devil. I am here to do the devils work“
TS: Well, I am honored that I am hearing these lines from you over the phone. That Devil was line was used recently in ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD.
BM: Yes but Quentin used what was Tex Watson’s actual line which was “I’m here to do the devils business“. Rob simply changed it from a two syllable to a one syllable word with “The devils work“, which I like better actually
TS: I do too. Good luck with 3 FROM HELL.
BM: Thanks and let’s hope there are more films in the series.
Screen sensation William Baldwin and Uncork’d Entertainment count down the Minutes to Midnight.
In the tradition of The Strangers, and featuring the hottest ensemble of the year, Minutes to Midnight premiered on VOD in July
What happens when a night of fun turns into a night of horror? Seven friends and a mysterious backpacker converge at a desolate ski lodge in the mountains and as the clock begins the countdown to the New Year, they discover that the end of the old year may be the end of all their years as they are systematically hunted down by ruthless masked men with a deadly agenda.
Film is scripted by Victoria Dadi and Christopher M. Don.
Award-winning actor William Baldwin (Backdraft, Flatliners, Sliver), Richard Grieco (“21 Jump Street”), Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects), John Hennigan (Never Leave Alive), Dominique Swain (Astro), Viva Bianca (“Spartacus : War of the Damned”), Jared Cohn (Pernicious) and Christopher Judge (“Stargate SG-1”) star in a Christopher Ray (Circus Kane) film.
Drab. Â Clunky. Â Laughable. Â Those are just a couple of words that describe the new horror film, ‘House.’ Â It was almost as if the filmmakers were aiming for that “coveted” seat among the other After Dark Horrorfest films. Â Of course, not even that group would lay hands upon this film, so, after watching it, you might wonder how or why something like ‘House’ got made. Â You would wonder, that is, until you see the company behind the film.
Namesake Entertainment was behind the two film adaptations of the ‘Left Behind’ series of novels. Â Those Christian films didn’t exactly pull in the audience like the novels did, so Namesake has decided for their last two outings to go a little more mainstream with their films. Â First, they had ‘Thr3e,’ a ‘Saw’/’Seven’ ripoff with Christian undertones. Â Now, they have ‘House,’ a ‘Texas Chainsaw’-like horror film with Christian undertones.
Don’t get me wrong. Â The Christian undertones don’t bother me one bit. Â I’m all for a Christian allegory in my mainstream films now and again. Â However, the people behind ‘House’ were so enthralled with the notion that they were going to make a mainstream horror film (R-rated, nontheless) for Christians, they never thought to make said film scary in the slightest bit.
They have a premise that horror fans can get behind. Â A young couple driving through Alabama on their way to marriage counseling get into a car wreck. Â They meet up with another couple, and, together, the four travel to a nearby house to seek shelter. Â There, they run into some just-that-side-of-crazy locals who treat them to a nice, home-cooked meal. Â And then the coffee can comes down the chimney.
That’s not a euphemism for things get crazy. Â Literally, a coffee can falls down the chimney. Â Inside the can is a note that reads “Welcome to my house. House rules: 1. God came into my house and i killed him. 2. I will kill anyone who comes into my house as i killed God. 3. Give me one dead body and i might let rule two slide. GAME OVER AT DAWN.” Â The note is from a maniac known only as The Tin Man, and he looks like he’s wearing some early concept rejects for Tony Stark’s first suit.
The idea of the note, what it says, and the whole concept of the Tin Man are interesting ideas.  In the hands of  a more skilled screenwriter and a more gifted director, ‘House’ could have been a whole lot of fun.  Yeah, they could have even embedded the film with messages and a few morals here and there.  But, what screenwriter Rob Green and director Robby Henson put together is a patchwork of tediously groaning scenes one right after another.
The acting in the film is pretty stagnant, as well. Â Reynaldo Rosales is half-way decent as the lead male, but the rest of the three people running for their lives are all extremely forgettable. Â Michael Madsen shows up just slightly, and it’s no surprise to say he plays the Tin Man, but he is earning a paycheck through and through. Â Bill Moseley, Leslie Easterbrook, and Lew Temple all seem to be trying to offer up some kind of prowess. Â It just looks like they weren’t handed much in the way of direction.
The people involved with the making of ‘House’ were never given a choice between loading their film with confusing morals or loading it with genuine scares. Â They didn’t have to choose between those two. Â They just did, and morals won out. Â What could have been a decent scarefest just ends up being a lackluster attempt at a religious production company putting out a mainstream horror film. Â They could have bridged a gap with ‘House.’ Â They just ended up staying on their side wondering why their film didn’t have people jumping across the ravine.
I love it when one piece of new information unfolds a whole slew of new stuff. Â So it goes with the new ‘H2’ still Rob Zombie posted on his Myspace page. Â The latest pic is this one right here:
That is evidently the silhouette of one Michael Myers as he stalks the streets of Haddonfield searching for his sister, Laurie Strode. Â Not sure if he is carrying the mask in his hand or if he’s wearing a heavy coat, but it does look like he’s got more on than just the mechanic’s overalls.
Just as the forecast for Saint Louis was announced to be sunny and in the 70’s this past weekend, I packed my bags and prepared to head into the big windy city of Chicago, and windy it was! And†¦ wet and cold! So, what could have possibly convinced me to leave the often rare and unseasonably beautiful weather promised to me back home and instead travel six hours north to freeze in the rain?
The answer to that question is the 30th anniversary of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors. Presented by Creation Entertainment, the three day long fan-fest for all things horror is perhaps the longest running event of it’s kind. The weekend extravaganza focuses on the genre of gore, thrills, scares and just all things taboo and bizarre. One thing is for sure, the fans were dedicated to appearing in massive numbers, braving bitter cold wind, non-stop rain and insanely long lines to meet their favorite genre filmmakers and celebrities.
I attended the Weekend of Horrors with my brother Adam, an immigrant to Chicago from his native land (Saint Louis) and we took in many of the freaky festivities. Now, due to scheduling and (honestly) the fact that the weather was a real bi***, I was unable to cover the entire event. With that said, I will remain honest and only talk about what I did take in this weekend. To read all about my weekend in Chi-town and see some cool and creepy photos from the event, click below to read the whole story†¦
It’s here again and this year it’s the 30th Anniversary of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors. The three day event promises to be exciting and full of thrills, chills and coll stuff to boot!
I will be traveling to Chicago for the weekend horror extravaganza which occurs March 6-8 at the Wyndham O’Hare hotel and covering all the ghoulishly grotesque and ghastly goings on for WeAreMovieGeeks.com, so check back for exclusive photos and afterthoughts about the event.
Here’s a special preview of what shrieks and surprises are lurking…
Friday night kicks off the freaky festivities with Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors Shock-N-Roll Spooktacular, featuring MUSHROOMHEAD, FASHION BOMB, DJ BRIANNE and Fangoria Spokesmodel SHANNON LARK.
Of course, no convention would be complete without opporunities to make your own mark on the industry. Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors will be ground zero for the following contests: SPOKESMODEL CONTEST, CREEPY COSTUME CONTEST and the TERRIFYING TATTOO CONTEST.
Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors will have some awesome extra-special seminars from professionals of the Horror genre, including: GARY SHERMAN’S HORROR DIRECTING 101; HERSCHELL GORDON LEWIS BUDGET-FILMMAKING WORKSHOP; LLOYD KAUFMAN “Direct Your Own Damn Movie!”; TOBE HOOPER “Filmmaking 101” (Check the website for further deatils on dates, times and cost.)

One of the biggest draws of the Weekend of Horrors is the line-up of celebrities that the event draws out for the fans. Read the whole story to see who to expect in this killer line-up if you’re brave enough to make the journey into darkness this March:
Lance Henriksen and Bill Moseley will be lending their voices to writer-director Matt Pizzolo’s film version of ‘Godkiller’ based on the comic series by HALO-8.  Actor Justin Pierre and AFI lead singer Davey Havok will also provide their voices.
The adaptation is described as an “illustrated film” mixing elements of anime, radio drama, video games and comics. Â Set in a future where the economy has collapsed, a nuclear holy war has devastated and aliens have invaded, ‘Godkiller’ tells the tale of Tommy, an orphan who searches for a new heart for his sick sister.
HALO-8 will unveil a preview clip Saturday during the “Indie Films and Comics” panel at Comic-Con International’s Wondercon in San Francisco. Â HALO-8 intends to release limited-edition, serialized, shortform DVDs to comic book stores through the spring and summer before releasing the full-length feature theatrically in the fall.
“When we decided to make an anime adaptation of the comic book, I couldn’t see how a traditional animated approach would do justice to Anna’s incredibly lush and detailed illustrations,” comic series creator Matt Pizzolo said. “It made perfect sense to adapt the medium to suit her art, rather than vice versa.”
I’m just gonna throw this out there. Â Unless you were at the Tivoli Theater in St. Louis last night, you don’t know what fun is! Â Mr. Darren Lynn Bousman, Terrance Zdunich, and Bill Moseley brought ‘Repo! The Genetic Opera’ road tour to the STL.
Hundreds upon hundreds stood in line to partake in the festivities. Â Some came dressed as their favorite ‘Repo!’ characters. Â Many of these people hadn’t even seen the film yet. Â Others sang their favorite songs from the rock opera. Â Some of them, as well, had not even seen the film yet. Â They just knew the songs from listening to the soundtrack and building up their anticipation to actually see the film.
The experience was amazing even before the ropes were let down to allow us into the theater. Â The adrenaline could be felt in the air, and it was as intoxicating as… well, Zydrate.
Spooky Dan from Bloody Disgusting.com intro’ed a short film he made, basically a scene form ‘Repo!’ that he “re-imagined” with puppets.
Check it out right here:
Then the main attraction kicked in. Â Bousman, Moseley, and Zdunich did a short intro before the film began. Bousman did a quick little tease of something to stick around for after the film was over. Â After that little tickle of the ass with a feather, we were off!
I’m not going to do a full review. Â You can check out Travis’ thoughts on the film right here! Â I will say, however, that ‘Repo! The Genetic Opera’ is an amazing film filled with amazing music. Â I’m sure the experience of seeing it on the big screen with a thousand of my closest, and most psychotic, friends didn’t hurt my liking of the film, but I could garner enough from the film to know that I would have loved it regardless. Â Not only does it have a kickass soundtrack, awesome performances, and an incredible visual style by Bousman, the story is very deep when you recollect on it. Â It is very Shakespearean and calls back to the darker days of some of Shakespeare’s more jolting tragedies like Titus Andronicus.
After the film, the three Genetic kings retook the stage for a Q&A. Â Subjects such as the costumes from the film, the pre-recording of the music, and other musicians Zdunich would like to work with were broached.
Bousman also said that, to really help he and the filmmakers behind ‘Repo!’, you could purchase the DVD or Blu-ray, the soundtrack or the MP3 downloads. Â You can also check out the official site and join the Repo! army. Â There is also a countless number of merch you can check out for the film.
Bousman also explained that there are 12 total prints of the film in existence. Â Six of these are just sitting in a warehouse in LA. Â If we want ‘Repo!’ to come back to STL, or wherever you may reside, you should get on your local theaters to get these prints out of storage and into the movie theaters. Â If even half the people that were in attendance last night see the film on a regular basis, ‘Repo! The Genetic Opera’ could easily become the new ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’.
