While checking out Rob Zombies blog I came across some photos we havent posted yet. Now that directors and actors have blogs and twitters we get a much more in depth at the production of their movies. Rob Zombie has been one of the best about this as you can tell from all the photos we have posted.
Also thanks to HorrorMovies.ca we get the official synopsis:
It’s that time of year again, and Michael Myers has returned home to sleepy Haddonfield, Illinois to take care of some unfinished family business. Unleashing a trail of terror that only horror master Rob Zombie can, Myers will stop at nothing to bring closure to the secrets of his twisted past. But the town’s got an unlikely new hero, if they can only stay alive long enough to stop the unstoppable.
David Slade’s name has been in the news an awful lot these past few weeks. Today, we bring you the first poster for his next-up thriller, ‘Cold Skin.’
It’s an interesting poster, but, honestly, I’m shocked it got past the MPAA. I mean, really! It’s a naked butt, MPAA. Where were you on this one? Children across this grand nation of ours could be compromised if they were to feast their innocent, little eyes on the posterior of this snake-woman. For shame, MPAA. For shame.
What really does surprise me is that this film already has this much marketing behind it, yet it doesn’t even begin filming until March, 2010. I guess that gives Slade plenty of time to put his stamp on a ‘Twilight’ movie.
Hysterical Psycho is now one of my favorite horror comedies of all time. It easily takes a spot on the list right alongside Evil Dead II. Now I know what you are thinking. Every few months another horror film comes along and some reviewer compares it to Evil Dead. And every single time, that reviewer should have their hand cut off and NOT replaced with a chainsaw for making such an unfair comparison. Well go ahead Evil Dead fans, call shenanigans on me (and Scott), but I guarantee you will take it back after watching this film.
The fact that this film went from idea to filming in about a month is amazing. Dan Fogler has crafted such a great film and it seems like a lot of fun was had on set. The film stars mostly members of Dan’s acting group, Stage 13. They are a truly talented bunch, and I am lucky to have had the chance to meet some of them at Tribeca. The basis for the entire film started with the suppressed laugh of Randy Baruh, who plays the film’s hysterical psycho. From there, Dan came up with a story outline and the cast all had a hand in creating the characters and expanding on the story. This is a great process and I truly hope they do it again on another project soon.
Dan Fogler did a fantastic job directing this film, as well. The cinematography is perfect, as is the sound editing. If you are like me and love that scene in Evil Dead when we hear a whomping sound every time the camera passes a beam, you will love the sound design in this film. The special effects are also well done and the few moments of animation are hysterical.
It is fairly obvious that I loved this movie. Hysterical Psycho is equally demented and hilarious. Fogler describes it as Rock n’ Roll Hitchcock meets Evil Dead meets Young Frankenstein and I completely agree. This needs to find distribution immediately so it can go on and become the cult classic it is destined to be.
5 out of 5 Suppressed Laughs
And because it is so F***ing batshit crazy awesome, here is the trailer for Hysterical Psycho:
David Slade has attached himself to head up the direction on ‘Cold Skin,’ adapted from the Spanish novel of the same name. This news comes just days after the news that Slade has been set to direct the third film in the ‘Twilight Saga,’ ‘Eclipse.’
‘Cold Skin’ centers on a weather official on a remote island in the South Atlantic close to the Arctic Circle. The novel was the debut novel by Albert Sanchez Pinol. Jesus Olmo (’28 Weeks Later’) is working on adapting the novel for the screen.
“David was always our first choice for ‘Cold Skin’ because he knows how to handle the psychological horror, and he’s CG savvy as well,†producer Denise O’Dell said.
The film, with a projected budget of $25 million, is set to begin production March, 2010.
The folks over at IESB caught up with comic book maverick Todd McFarlane while at the ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ World premiere in Tempe, Arizona. (Do you think someone like McFarlane gets turned away if he doesn’t have an invite? Doubt that!)
McFarlane, creator of ‘Spawn’ and Arizona native, laid down some juicy bits about the status of a new ‘Spawn’ movie, and even maybe a new animated series.
Todd McFarlane tells us he has five offers on the table to do a new Spawn film. From big special effects studio budgets to a smaller indie budgets that he hopes to be able to write and direct himself. — IESB
Personally, I think it would be great to see the ‘Spawn’ franchise successfully translated into a live-action feature. As for the possibility of another animated series, I can take it or leave it, really. Check out IESB’s exclusive video interview by clicking the link below.
We have brought you several dozens of pictures from Zombie’s ‘Halloween’ follow-up. However, today we bring you the first, official, approved, 100% studio-friendly pic of Mr. Michael Myers.
Check it out:
Surprisingly, this pic gives away a lot of detail about Myers’ new look in the film. That mask is pretty jacked up and is starting to look more like Leatherface than The Shape.
What do you think? Does this new look for Myers satisfy your ‘Halloween’ cravings? What are your overall thoughts on ‘H2’? Do you think, looking ahead, Zombie has any plans for ‘H3’? Let us know by commenting below!
We Are Movie Geeks (Travis and Kirk) attended the Horror Society’s Women of Horror Film Festival at the historic Portage Theatre in Chicago on Saturday, April 25. The festival ran from 5pm until after midnight and was packed full of all kinds of horrific films written, produced, directed by and starring women of the horror genre. In addition to the films being screened, the event included vendors in the lobby, a charity raffle and auction benefiting the Lynn Sage Foundation for Breast Cancer Research, trailers for coming films and opportunities to meet and speak with talent involved in making some of the featured films. The event was a great time and we got to hang out with some really cool filmmakers and fans of the horror genre. We’ve taken the time to share our thoughts on the films we screened below, so check it out and be sure to search out these great movies for yourself. Zombies are good, zombies are great, zombies are popping up all over the place. Zombies are creepy, to them we are yummy and sometimes they even can be kind of funny?
OK, excuse the lame attempt at zombie poetry. Combining zombies and comedy isn’t altogether new, but the hybrid genre is apparently getting a celebrity boost from veteran funnyman Bill Murray.
Shocktillyoudrop.com has revealed that “an anonymous industry tipster” has spilled the beans about a special comedic cameo will be made by Murray in the upcoming ‘Zombieland’ movie, due to hit theaters on October 9, 2009.
Why is this such a big deal? Apparently, while the cameo is suggested as a brief one, Murray will appear in full zombie make-up. Yes, Bill Murray will be an undead brain-eater!
The cast will include an array of frightened talent, including Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin and Amber Heard. ‘Zombieland’ is directed by Ruben Fleischer (The Girls Guitar Club).
‘Humpty Dumpty’ is set to get the horror adaptation treatment, as David R. Ellis has been tapped to helm a feature film version of the classic children’s tale.
The new, horror film will feature a half-human, half-alien creature who goes on a murderous rampage after his alien mother is abused by rednecks in the Deep South. Sounds like high art, no?
Ellis previously helmed ‘Final Destination 2’ and ‘Snakes on a Plane.’
Billy Majestic is currently working on the screenplay.
Just a quick note. The remake to George Romero’s ‘The Crazies’ was initially set for release on September 25th of this year. However, Overture Films has announced that they are pushing the film’s release back five months all the way to February 26th, 2010.
This move puts ‘The Crazies’ out three weeks after Drew Goddard’s directorial debut, ‘The Cabin in the Woods.’Â The month after, we have the release of ‘Pirahna 3D’ and in April, we have the remake of ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street.’Â First quarter 2010 is looking pretty horror-heavy, so I’m not sure how this move will effect ‘The Crazies.’
As it was, ‘The Crazies’ was coming out a week after ‘Jennifer’s Body,’ two weeks after ‘Whiteout,’ and three weeks after ‘Pandorum.’ September ’09 is looking pretty horror-heavy, as well, so the move was a good decision. Nothing horror-related is set for December, so that may have been a better decision.
What do you think? Is the move a good one for ‘The Crazies’? When would be a good time of year for this film? Are all of these horror films coming out a good thing for fans of the genre or a bad thing? Let us know by commenting below!
