Three beloved films from the brilliant Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki deliver truly amazing video and audio in exceptional Blu-ray releases.
PRINCESS MONONOKE, THE WIND RISES and KIKI’S DELIVERY SERVICE were directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by his renown Japanese animation studio, Studio Ghibli. The trio, from Walt Disney Pictures, is a nice sampling of Miyazaki’s art. KIKI’S DELIVERY SERVICE is one of his earlier, more children-oriented films. PRINCESS MONONOKE is a more mature fantasy with environmental overtones. And THE WIND RISES, which Miyazaki believed would be his final film as a director, is a fictional biography of Jiro Horikoshi, the designer of the Zero plane.

The Wind Rises
In THE WIND RISES, Jiro (voice of Joseph Gordon-Levitt) dreams of flying and designing beautiful airplanes, inspired by the famous Italian aeronautical designer Caproni (voice of Stanley Tucci). Nearsighted from a young age and unable to be a pilot, Jiro joins a major Japanese engineering company in 1927 and becomes one of the world’s most innovative and accomplished airplane designers. The film chronicles much of his life, depicting key historical events, including the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, the Great Depression, the tuberculosis epidemic and Japan’s plunge into war. Need for Speed
The film centers around Tobey Marshall (Aaron Paul), a blue-collar mechanic who races muscle cars on the side in an unsanctioned street-racing circuit. Struggling to keep his family-owned garage afloat, he reluctantly partners with the wealthy and arrogant ex-NASCAR driver Dino Brewster (Dominic Cooper). But just as a major sale to car broker Julia Maddon (Imogen Poots) looks like it will save Tobey’s shop, a disastrous race allows Dino to frame Tobey for a crime he didn’t commit, and sending Tobey to prison while Dino expands his business out West.
Two years later, Tobey is released and set on revenge — but he knows his only chance to take down his rival Dino is to defeat him in the high-stakes race known as De Leon — the Super Bowl of underground racing. Muppets Most Wanted
Disney’s MUPPETS MOST WANTED takes the entire Muppets gang on a global tour, selling out grand theaters in some of Europe’s most exciting destinations, including Berlin, Madrid, Dublin and London. But mayhem follows the Muppets overseas, as they find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine—the World’s Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit—and his dastardly sidekick Dominic, aka Number Two, portrayed by Ricky Gervais. Million Dollar Arm
In a last ditch effort to save his career as a sports agent, JB Bernstein (Jon Hamm) concocts a scheme to find baseball’s next great pitching ace. Hoping to find a young cricket pitcher he can turn into a Major League Baseball star, JB travels to India to produce a reality show competition called “Million Dollar Arm.” With the help of a cantankerous but eagle-eyed retired baseball scout (Alan Arkin) he discovers Dinesh (played by Madhur Mittal from “Slumdog Millionaire”) and Rinku (played by Suraj Sharma from “Life of Pi”), two 18 year old boys who have no idea about playing baseball, yet have a knack for throwing a fastball. Hoping to sign them to major league contracts and make a quick buck, JB brings the boys home to America to train. While the Americans are definitely out of their element in India — the boys, who have never left their rural villages — are equally challenged when they come to the States. As the boys learn the finer points of baseball — JB, with the help of his charming friend Brenda (Lake Bell) — learns valuable life lessons about teamwork, commitment and what it means to be a family.

Maleficent
From Disney comes MALEFICENT – the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.”
A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. Planes: Fire & Rescue
PLANES: FIRE & RESCUE is a new comedy-adventure about second chances, featuring a dynamic crew of elite firefighting aircraft devoted to protecting historic Piston Peak National Park from raging wildfires. The Hundred-Foot Journey

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

With the help of his closest companion – a robot named Baymax – Hiro joins forces with a reluctant team of first-time crime fighters on a mission to save their city.
Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, and featuring comic-book style and all the heart and humor audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studios, the CG-animated BIG HERO 6 hits theaters in 3D on Nov. 7, 2014.
McFarland
Inspired by the 1987 true-story, MCFARLAND follows high school coach Jim White (Kevin Costner), whose job-hopping leads him to predominantly Latino McFarland High School, located in an agricultural community in California’s farm-rich Central Valley. Jim knows he has to make this school his last stop – he’s out of options, with both is career and his family and finds himself in a diverse, economically-challenged community that feels worlds apart from his previous hometowns.
Admittedly, the White family and the students have a lot to learn about each other – but when Coach White notcies the boys exceptional running ability, things begin to change. Soon something beyond their physical gifts impresses White – the power of family relationships, their unwavering commitment to one another and their incredible work ethic. Into the Woods
INTO THE WOODS is a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lila Crawford), Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone), and Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy) – all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife (James Corden and Emily Blunt), their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch (Meryl Streep) who has put a curse on them.
Rob Marshall, the talented filmmaker behind the Oscar-winning CHICAGO and Disney’s PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES, helms the film, which is based on the Tony-winning original musical by James Lapine, who also penned the screenplay, and legendary composer Stephen Sondheim, who provides the music and lyrics – including an all-new song for the big screen adaptation.
The cast also includes Chris Pine as Cinderella’s Prince, Tracey Ullman as Jack’s Mother, Christine Baranski as the infamous Stepmother and Johnny Depp as The Wolf.
The film is slated for a December 25, 2014, holiday release.

WILLIAM H. MACY (“Shameless,” “Fargo”) steps into the role of Satomi, Nahoko’s father.
MAE WHITMAN (“Parenthood,” “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”) was called on to voice Kayo Horikoshi, Jiro’s younger sister, who adores him. Whitman also voices Kinu, Nahoko’s caretaker.

Hayao Miyazaki is one of the most influential and admired filmmakers and a major figure in the Japanese cinematic landscape. Studio Ghibli was founded in 1985 by Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. Hayao Miyazaki has directed eight feature films, including the Oscar®-winning “Spirited Away” (2001), as well as “My Neighbor Totoro” (1988), “Howl’s Moving Castle” (2004) and “Ponyo” (2008), among others. “The Wind Rises” marks his last film as his retirement plans were announced in 2013.

The film will also open for Academy Award qualification engagements in New York and Los Angeles Nov. 8-14, 2013, showcasing the original film in Japanese with English subtitles.

In THE WIND RISES, Jiro dreams of flying and designing beautiful airplanes, inspired by the famous Italian aeronautical designer Caproni. “I want to portray a devoted individual who pursued his dream head on. Dreams possess an element of madness, and such poison must not be concealed. Yearning for something too beautiful can ruin you. Swaying towards beauty may come at a price. Jiro will be battered and defeated, his design career cut short. Nonetheless, Jiro was an individual of preeminent originality and talent. This is what we will strive to portray in this film.”
