THE SANDLOT is Coming Back to the Big Screen for Its 25th Anniversary

Twenty-five years since its initial release, THE SANDLOT has become almost as legendary as “The Great Bambino” himself — and this summer, for the first time since its initial release 25 years ago, it’s going to be back on the silver screen in theaters nationwide for two days only: July 22nd and 24th.

Directed by David Mickey Evans, “The Sandlot” was a well-reviewed box-office success when it was first released in April 1993, but in the ensuing quarter-century it has become an integral film for both baseball fans and movie lovers – so much so that “The Sandlot has been named one of the best baseball movies of all time by Bleacher ReportMen’s JournalEsquire and Sporting News, among others.

Told in a charming, rambling fashion, “The Sandlot” is set in the summer of 1962, when Scotty Smalls (Tom Guiry) moves to a new town. Awkward and friendless, Scotty is on the brink of despondency when he runs into the never-ending baseball game that takes place on the sandlot behind a ramshackle house.

He’s befriended first by Benny Rodriguez (Mike Vitar) and ultimately by the whole team, including Hamilton “Ham” Porter (Patrick Renna), Michael “Squints” Palledorous (Chauncey Leopardi), Alan “Yeah-Yeah” McClennan (Marty York), Kenny DeNunez (Brandon Adams), Bertram Weeks (Grant Gelt), and Timmy and Tommy Timmons (Victor DiMattia and Shane Obedzinski). On and off the baseball field, they experience an unforgettable – and unforgettably hilarious – summer of discovery and friendship. “The Sandlot” also stars James Earl JonesKaren Allen and Denis Leary.

“Watching ‘The Sandlot’ has become an annual event that no summer is complete without – but since its original release, it has never had a nationwide theatrical re-release,” Fathom Events Vice President of Studio Relations Tom Lucas said. “We’re proud to be able to bring ‘The Sandlot’ to families and fans all around the country with this special cinema event, paired with a sneak peek at a brand-new Fox Sports documentary.”

Your’e Killing Me Smalls! THE SANDLOT Midnights This Weekend at The Tivoli (and Saturday at Noon)

THE SANDLOT (1993) plays this weekend (August 19th and 20th) at The Tivoli at midnight as part of their Reel Late at the Tivoli midnight series. It will also screen at noon on Saturday.

THE SANDLOT is a beloved film that over the last 23 years has gained quite a cult following thanks its joyous nostalgia that’s along the lines of A CHRISTMAS STORY. Unlike many movies that claim to be family films, THE SANDLOT actually is a “family film”. Kids like it for the  situations and dialogue, while adults relate to it as well. Young Scotty Smalls (Tom Guidry) moves into a new town and desperately wants to fit in with the rest of the neighborhood boys and in the summer of 1962, a bat and a ball is all it takes. A solid swing will send the ball sailing over the fence to never be seen again for it lands in Mr. Mertle’s (James Earl Jones) backyard, which is guarded by a humongous dog…a super slobbering “beast” that devours anything and everything. The high drama and dilemma of the summer is trying to retrieve a Babe Ruth autographed ball from the beast. Other cast members of note: Patrick Renna, Mike Vitar, Chauncey Leopardi, Denis Leary and Karen Allen. THE SANDLOT is nostalgic, sentimental and stuffed full of innocence and humor. Worth watching again…and again and you’ll have your chance this to see it  three times this weekend when THE SANDLOT plays midnights Friday and Saturday (August 19th and 20th) and Saturday at Noon!. It’s definitely a must see for anyone who has their old mitt lying somewhere in a closet or attic at home, and count on wanting to find it and take it outside to play catch when the movie is over (at 2AM!!)

The Tivoli Announces the ‘Reel Late’ Midnight Line-Up – GOONIES, THE ROOM, Miyazaki, and More!

“You’re tearing me apart Lisa!”

Another brilliant lineup of midnight movies for the ‘Reel Late at The Tivoli’ for the remainder of Summer of 2016 season. It’s a typically good variety of titles that will draw the late night movie buff crowd with a couple of retro surprises. The Midnight Movie experience has always catered to a college-age crowd and that’s the way it should be. Looks like we have one Miyazaki (PRINCESS MONONOKE) which always draw good crowds. The oldest film this time is the Hitchcock classic from 1960 PSYCHO (if you didn’t get your Hitchcock fix with REAR WINDOW this weekend) and the most recent appears to be THE ROOM, the ineptly hilarious interactive crowd-pleaser starring Tommy Wiseau. We have not shown ENTER THE DRAGON at midnight in many years and this will be the first time EVENT HORIZON has ever played at the Tiv.

It’s the early 1960s and fifth-grader Scotty Smalls (Tom Guiry) has just moved into town with his folks (Karen Allen and Denis Leary). Kids call him a dork—he can’t even throw a baseball! But that changes when the leader of the neighborhood gang recruits him to play on the nearby sandlot field. It’s the beginning of a magical summer of baseball, wild adventures, first kisses, and fearsome confrontations with the dreaded Beast and its owner (James Earl Jones) who live behind the left field fence. Soon nine boys have become best friends, Scotty is part of a team, and their leader has become a local legend in this hilarious and warmhearted comedy.
