THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON is rated PG-13 for some violence and action.

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of action and violence, and some sensuality.

In THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, directed by David Slade from a screenplay written by Melissa Rosenberg and starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, Bella (Stewart) once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between Edward (Pattinson) and Jacob (Lautner) — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.

Summit Has Got an ALIBI

alibi

Variety reported back in August that Mandeville Films were developing a feature film version of the Top Cow comic ALIBI.   Now, they are hitting us with the news that Summit Entertainment, fresh off making bank (and still pulling it in) with NEW MOON, has come on board the film’s production, as well.

Released last year, the comic centers on a top government assassin who uses the presence of his twin brother as an alibi for his kills.   DONKEY PUNCH writer John Hlavin has come on board to adapt the comic for the screen.

Summit and Mandeville are hoping to replicate the success of WANTED, a successful film based on another Top Cow property.   No director and no actors are attached to ALIBI yet.   NEW MOON is fast approaching the $500 million mile marker in worldwide grosses, so, I’m sure, backing a comic book-based film isn’t exactly a gamble in Summit’s eyes.

New Details about Malick’s ‘The Tree of Life’

earth_treeoflife

Remember in ‘Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy’ when the mice build the super computer to determine the answer to the ultimate question? Well, Terrence Malick’s new movie ‘The Tree of Life’ sounds gran on the same scale, but not at all in the same way.

‘The Tree of Life’ essentially spans the history of the universe. Recently revealed is the news that (one part of) the movie will feature dinosaurs. I know, crazy, right? Well, not when you take the previous information into account.

Here’s the plot synopsis from Summit Entertainment:

Our picture is a cosmic epic, a hymn to life.

We trace the evolution of an eleven-year-old boy in the Midwest, Jack, one of three brothers. At first all seems marvelous to the child. He sees as his mother does, with the eyes of his soul. She represents the way of love and mercy, where the father tries to teach his son the world’s way, of putting oneself first. Each parent contends for his allegiance, and Jack must reconcile their claims. The picture darkens as he has his first glimpses of sickness, suffering and death. The world, once a thing of glory, becomes a labyrinth.

Framing this story is that of adult Jack, a lost soul in a modern world, seeking to discover amid the changing scenes of time that which does not change: the eternal scheme of which we are a part. When he sees all that has gone into our world’s preparation, each thing appears a miracle — precious, incomparable. Jack, with his new understanding, is able to forgive his father and take his first steps on the path of life.

The story ends in hope, acknowledging the beauty and joy in all things, in the everyday and above all in the family — our first school — the only place that most of us learn the truth about the world and ourselves, or discover life’s single most important lesson, of unselfish love.

As for the dinosaurs, this news comes from FX artist Mike Fink in an interview with Empire Magazine:

We’re just starting work on a project for Terrence Malick, animating dinosaurs, the film is The Tree of Life, starring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn. It’ll be showing in IMAX — so the dinosaurs will actually be life size — and the shots of the creatures will be long and lingering.

Oh yeah, did you catch the part about IMAX? Cool! By the way, I forgot to mention the movie will star Brad Pitt and Sean Penn… so, there!

Brendan Fraser Wants ‘Vengeance’

Brendan Fraser in a lighthearted comedy about a man who enters a strange territory and must battle wacky, CG characters? Â  Say it ain’t so! Â  Nonetheless, the live action Muppet has signed on to ‘Furry Vengeance’, directed by Roger Kumble (‘College Road Trip’ and ‘Just Friends’).

The film will follow a real estate developer  whose new housing subdivision pushes far into a pristine part of the Oregon wilderness, pitting the developer against a band of angry critters.

The film was written by Michael Carnes and Josh Gilbert, the duo behind ‘Mr. Woodcock’. Â  The film is being co-financed by Summit Entertainment (‘Twilight’) and Participant Media (‘The Crazies’ remake).
