The film stars SAG winner and Oscar® nominee Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer, A Quiet Place), Emmy and Golden Globe winner Josh O’Connor (Challengers, The Crown), Oscar® winner Colin Firth (The King’s Speech, Kingsman franchise), Eve Hewson (Bad Sisters, The Perfect Couple) and two-time Oscar® nominee Colman Domingo (Sing Sing, Rustin).

Based on a story by Spielberg, the screenplay is by David Koepp, whose previous work with Spielberg includes the scripts for Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Combined, those films earned more than $3 billion worldwide. Koepp also wrote the script for this 2025’s Jurassic World Rebirth.

DISCLOSURE DAY is produced by five-time Academy Award® nominee Kristie Macosko Krieger (The Fabelmans, West Side Story) and by Spielberg for Amblin Entertainment. The executive producers are Adam Somner and Chris Brigham.

Steven Spielberg is one of the industry’s most successful and influential filmmakers. The top-grossing director of all time, Spielberg has helmed such blockbusters as Jaws, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, the Indiana Jones franchise and Jurassic Park.

WAMG Attends Preview Of JAWS 50th Anniversary Exhibit At The Academy of Motion Pictures Museum

The Academy of Motion Pictures Museum in Los Angeles held a preview for their new exhibit, JAWS: The Exhibition, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the movie that has long been considered the first cinematic “blockbuster.” The one that started it all.

Directed by Oscar® winner Steven Spielberg, JAWS set the standard for edge-of-your-seat suspense, quickly becoming a cultural phenomenon and forever changing the movie industry 50 years ago on June 20, 1975. When the seaside community of Amity Island finds itself under attack by a dangerous great white shark, the town’s chief of police (Roy Scheider), a young marine biologist (Richard Dreyfuss), and a grizzled shark hunter (Robert Shaw) embark on a desperate quest to destroy the beast before it strikes again. Featuring John Williams’s unforgettable, pulse-racing score, Jaws, now five decades later, remains one of the most influential and gripping adventures in motion picture history.

Jaws: The Exhibition is the museum’s first large-scale exhibition dedicated to a single film, and the largest exhibition ever mounted showcasing Universal Pictures’ landmark summer blockbuster, which earned three Academy Awards® and was nominated for Best Picture. The exhibition celebrates the 50th anniversary of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws (1975) and will remain on view through July 26, 2026. The Academy Museum has also announced that in 2028, it will honor the legacy of Steven Spielberg and mount the first-ever retrospective exhibition dedicated to Spielberg’s era-defining career, providing visitors with insight into his creative process and bringing them closer than ever to his filmography.

The press members were treated to a full orchestra performing the iconic John Williams score from the movie, accompanied by clips and images from the film on the big screen.  And I must say, it was rather glorious. And that wasn’t even the best part. The man responsible for literally ALL of this, Steven Spielberg, was there to welcome us and officially open the exhibit.

“This exhibition is awesome,” said Spielberg. “Every room has the minutiae of how this picture came together and it proves how this motion picture industry is really, truly a collaborative art form. This is an art form that only survives by getting the best people in all the right positions. I am so proud to be part of it . . . and people have a chance between now and July to come here to the Academy Museum and live it for the first time.”

His remarks included funny stories about the production, and where he feared his career would end up if this little film of his flopped. It was endearing to say the least and made it all the more exciting to get to the exhibit and check out all the cool stuff. And it was VERY cool!

Who can forget the menacing baritone piano keys that are forever burned into the lexicon of American pop culture – the 2 notes that strike fear into anyone that has ever swam in the ocean. This fantastic exhibit has something for everyone – from interactive experiences to original props and photos for even the most die-hard fans of the movie.

Featuring more than 200 original objects and behind-the-scenes stories, the exhibit is the largest ever organized about Steven Spielberg’s JAWS. Items that have never been on display before, including ones from the personal collections of Steven Spielberg and AMBLIN, are displayed in a multi-gallery experience for all ages.

Fans of the film who live in or are visiting LA should not miss this exciting exhibit, which again will be on display until July 2026. A must see!

The exhibition follows the film’s narrative, taking visitors from the opening credits to the film’s gripping conclusion. Expanding on the three-act structure of the film, the story is told in six sections: “The Unseen Danger,” “Amity Island Welcomes You,” “Sunday at the Beach,” “The Shark’s Rampage,” “Adventure Ahead,” and “Into the Deep.” A seventh, concluding gallery explores the enduring impact of the film. 

The exhibition includes:

 – Behind-the-scenes photos of Spielberg on set, the construction of the mechanical shark used in production, location scouting, and the cast and crew during filming, as well as Super 8 foot-age shot by Steven Spielberg during the making of Jaws

 – Handwritten and hand-sketched materials, including Steven Spielberg’s annotated script, storyboards and original concept illustrations of the shark by production designer Joe Alves, composer John Williams’s sheet music, and sketches of a shark rising from the depths by the artist behind the iconic Jaws poster image, Roger Kastel

 – Filming and editing equipment, including the Moviola machine used by the film’s editor Verna Fields, the original Jaws clapper board from the collection of Steven Spielberg, and the Panavision Underwater Camera used to shoot key scenes

 – Original props, including the prop head of Ben Gardner used for the film’s indelible “jump scare,” Quint’s fighting chair and the shark weathervane from his shack, Hooper’s shark cage, components of the Orca, and the “Beach Closed” sign

– Recreations of the “Amity Island Welcomes You” billboards, orange and white striped beach cabanas, and the shark chalkboard drawing featured during Quint’s introduction (remade for the Academy Museum by production designer Joe Alves)

Jaws: The Exhibition will be the museum’s fifth large-scale exhibition in its Marilyn and Jeffrey Katzenberg Gallery, following Hayao Miyazaki (2021–22), Regeneration: Black Cinema 1898–1971 (2022–23), John Waters: Pope of Trash (2023–24), and Color in Motion: Chromatic Explorations of Cinema . The exhibition’s advisory group comprises ocean conservationist and marine policy advocate Wendy Benchley; Associate Professor in the Division of Cinema and Media Studies at USC J.D. Last night at the Regency Village Theatre in Los Angeles, Apple TV+ hosted the red carpet premiere of “Masters of the Air,” the highly anticipated World War II drama that will premiere globally with two episodes of the nine-episode series on Friday, January 26.

Based on Miller’s book of the same name, and scripted by John Orloff, “Masters of the Air” follows the men of the 100th Bomb Group (the “Bloody Hundredth”) as they conduct perilous bombing raids over Nazi Germany and grapple with the frigid conditions, lack of oxygen and sheer terror of combat conducted at 25,000 feet in the air. Portraying the psychological and emotional price paid by these young men as they helped destroy the horror of Hitler’s Third Reich, is at the heart of “Masters of the Air.” Some were shot down and captured; some were wounded or killed. And some were lucky enough to make it home. Regardless of individual fate, a toll was exacted on them all.

Ranging in location from the bucolic fields and villages of southeast England, to the harsh deprivations of a German prisoner-of-war camp, and depicting a unique and crucial time in world history, “Masters of the Air” is enormous in both scale and scope, and a genuine cinematic achievement.

LUCASFILM’S INDIANA JONES AND THE DIAL OF DESTINY Premiere And Watch Composer John Williams Conduct

Fans and celebrities turned out on Wednesday evening for the U.S. Premiere of Lucasfilm’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. In attendance at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood were stars Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Karen Allen, John Rhys-Davies, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Toby Jones, Boyd Holbrook, Olivier Richters and Ethann Isidore; Director/Writer James Mangold; Producers Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel; Executive Producers Steven Spielberg and George Lucas; and Composer John Williams.

Alongside the cast and filmmakers introducing the movie, the audience was also treated to a surprise 15-minute orchestral performance of the iconic “Indiana Jones” theme music, conducted by John Williams himself.

The film opens in theaters on June 30.

Harrison Ford returns to the role of the legendary hero archaeologist for this highly anticipated final installment of the iconic franchise– a big, globe-trotting, rip-roaring cinematic adventure. Starring along with Ford are Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”), Antonio Banderas (“Pain and Glory”), John Rhys-Davies (Raiders of the Lost Ark), Shaunette Renée Wilson (“Black Panther”), Thomas Kretschmann (“Das Boot”), Toby Jones (“Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”), Boyd Holbrook (“Logan”), Olivier Richters (“Black Widow”), Ethann Isidore (“Mortel”) and Mads Mikkelsen (“Another Round”). Directed by James Mangold (“Ford v Ferrari,” “Logan”) and written by Jez Butterworth & John-Henry Butterworth and David Koepp and James Mangold, based on characters created by George Lucas and Philip Kaufman, the film is produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel, with Steven Spielberg and George Lucas serving as executive producers.

John Williams, who has scored each Indy adventure since the original Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981, has once again composed the score.

Ke Huy Quan surprised Harrison Ford at the “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” star-studded premiere in Hollywood.

Quan won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in March for his role in “Everything Everywhere All At Once.”

“The Goonies” actor played Short Round, the trusty sidekick of the fictional archeologist, in 1984’s “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.”

THE FABELMANS – Review

In his semi-autobiographical film THE FABELMANS, director Steven Spielberg looks back on growing up and how he fell in love with movie-making, a remembrance told through the lens of his parents’ marriage. Of course, “semi-autobiographical” means not everything we see is true but the story is by turns funny, touching and heartbreaking, as Sammy Fabelman, the stand-in for young Spielberg, grows up while his determination to make movies also grows, and his parents’ marriage falls apart. The film features a stellar cast, including Paul Dano, Michelle Williams, Seth Rogen, and Judd Hirsch with a nice cameo by David Lynch. Spielberg co-wrote the script with Tony Kushner, who also co-wrote “Munich” with the director, and with music by John Williams, the stage is set for something wonderful – and we get exactly that.

There seems to be a spate of partly-biographical films from big-name directors in the last couple of years, maybe partly due to reflection during pandemic lock-down or just to reaching an age for looking back (Spielberg is now 75). This one joins Kenneth Branagh’s semi-autobiographical “Belfast” from last year and Sam Mendes’ partly-biographical ode to his mother, “Empire of Light.”

THE FABELMANS starts out with the family in 1950s New Jersey, as we meet 6-six-year-old Sammy Fabelman (Mateo Zoryon Francis-Deford) while he is standing in line with his parents Mitzi (Michelle Williams) and Burt (Paul Dano) to see his very first movie. However, young Sammy is not too sure about this experience because he is afraid of the dark. It does not help matters when his mother, in an effort to reassure him, describes movies as “like dreams” – which Sammy quickly notes can sometimes be scary. But his parents tell him the movie is about the circus, and Sammy loves the circus and clowns (in an earlier era when clowns were seen as harmless and funny rather than scary). And the movie? Cecil B. DeMille’s “The Greatest Show On Earth.” If you have seen this epic, you know it is less a light, happy comedy than a dramatic epic, with a showstopper scene of a circus train wreck.

Sammy’s parents obviously expected a more light-hearted movie (and what parent hasn’t made this kind of mistake?), so they are nervous about Sammy’s reaction after the show. Sammy does indeed seem stunned afterwards, but it is because he wants to know how they did that train-wreck scene. But Hanukkah is coming, and the lighting of the menorah candles, and Sammy gets an electric train set, one car at a time until the final piece, the transformer to power it all. Yup – train-wreck re-enactment is inevitable, and when his mother hands him a home movie camera so he can record it, the pattern is set.

Sammy’s fascination with making movies is encouraged actively by his artistic mother Mitzi, who even gives him his first movie camera, but it puzzles his science-inclined father Burt. The film follows Sammy’s early efforts at making movies, along with growing up with his three sisters (one a baby) and his parents. His brilliant engineer/inventor father Burt (Paul Dano) is working on the cutting edge of the nascent computer industry, developing the machines that will drive the future. His mother Mitzi (Michelle Williams) is a talented pianist but gave up her dreams of the concert stage to raise her family.

Scenes of little Sammy crashing his train and filming it with his dad’s home movie camera give way to more movie-making, often starring his older sisters, who seem to enjoy the process nearly as much as their brother.

Burt Fabelman’s soaring career takes the family from the suburbs of New Jersey, to Arizona, and then to northern California. Tagging along is fellow computer engineer Bennie Loewy (Seth Rogen), a family friend who is kind of an uncle to the kids as well as Burt’s co-worker in early computer research.

For anyone who grew up making little movies (or knew someone who did), this film is pure catnip. At the same time, this is a universal coming-of-age story for anyone who grew up in the later half of the 20th century. The film-making sequences are among the most fun, and punctuate the family’s story as well as illuminating young Sammy’s growth as he approaches adulthood. This beautifully constructed family story has humor and heart-break, and a winning coming-of-age story.

While scientist Burt is supportive of his son, he sees his son’s movie-making as a hobby, and something he will grow out of. It’s pretty clear Burt wants his son to follow in this footsteps but as much as Sammy loves his quiet, kindly father, he is just not the same. As a sister points out, Sammy doesn’t even like math, but he sure loves making movies. Dad’s gentle efforts to interest his son – in fact any of this children – in his world of science is often undermined by jokes by ever-present pal Bennie. Although Bennie is in the same nascent computer field as Burt, his playful, jokester temperament is more like Sammy’s mom Mitzi.

While the family’s Jewish identity is clear, it is not always at the forefront in the story and instead is integrated into it in a pleasingly natural way. Interestingly, the Fabelmans never seem to live in neighborhoods with many other Jewish families around, as they move from place to place. In New Jersey, they drive home after in winter through a subdivision full of houses decorated with Christmas lights, until they reach their own unlit house. Yet later, we see a festive menorah in the window, as extended family gathers to celebrate Hanukkah. Later in Arizona, we see both grandmothers visit them, Mitzi’s warm mother Tina Schildkraut (Robin Bartlett) and Burt’s more critical one, Hadassah Fabelman (Jeannie Berlin). But by the time the family reaches northern California, as Dad’s career is reaching the top, the family finds itself in very different territory, a place where, as Sammy comments, “there are hardly any Jews.” Here Sammy is confronted by open antisemitism, in the form of a hate-filled fellow student in high school.

Both Michelle Williams and Paul Dano are marvelous as Sammy’s parents, two good but mismatched people. Michelle Williams is particularly brilliant as Sammy’s artistic mother, in one of her best performances in a career of them. Mitzi is encouraging to her son while frustrated in her own life, and the two do not always get along. Paul Dano is surprisingly good in the less-showy, more-challenging role as Sammy’s quiet, kind, steady, more reserved father. Dano manages effectively the difficult job of portraying a man who, while not understanding his creative son’s passion for movie-making, ever-hopeful that he will grow out of it, and fearing for his financial future if he doesn’t, is still supportive and kindly towards him, even if he doesn’t understand, In fact, both actors present these people as good parents who put their children first, even as things between them are breaking down.

Two young actors play Sammy Fabelman, Mateo Zoryon Francis-Deford as little Sammy, and Gabriel LaBelle as the teenage Sammy. The former is cute but newcomer Gabriel LaBelle does a truly impressive job, delivering a fine, strong performance often laced with a dry humor. Also very good are the girls playing Sammy’s two older sisters, his companions in movie-making in his early attempts. Both Julia Butters as Sammy’s sister Reggie and Keeley Karsten as sister Natalie give appealing, effective performances.

Other supporting roles offer humor and more. Seth Rogen plays Bennie, a part largely based on Spielberg’s favorite uncle. Rogen’s Bennie is often silly but role isn’t always comic, as his constant presence sometimes disrupts serious Burt’s attempts to connect with his family, and Rogen does well in the part. Yet Bennie encourages also Sammy’s movie-making ambitions along with Mitzi, and he plays a crucial role at a pivotal moment for the budding director. Judd Hirsch plays Mitzi’s oddball Uncle Boris, who comes to visit at one point, telling tales of working in early movies, and having a profound effect on Sammy. Hirsch’s bit as crazy Boris is short but a comic highlight. Another actor notable in a smaller role is Jeannie Berlin, who is dryly funny as Burt’s disapproving mother Haddash Fabelman. “This is brisket?” she asks after marching into Mitzi’s kitchen and opening her oven door to inspect the meal.

Spielberg recreates his own earliest films – which include a dentist horror one, a Western, and a war movie – but the director has admitted in interviews that he improved them over the originals, as he found the originals too embarrassing to show. And why not? The admission is its own kind of charming for fans and film buffs, and more of that catnip for the childhood movie-makers among us.

“The Fabelmans” is a lovely love letter to film-making, and to Spielberg’s family, with a message about good parenting and what matters in life. This film is very well-constructed, weaving together Sammy’s movie-making and growing up, with what is happening to his parents’ marriage, in a cohesive tale of family life. It is film that is entertaining but has something real to say about growing up and following dreams.

“The Fabelmans” is a wonderful cinematic Thanksgiving treat, particularly for those who dabbled in movie-making as kids.

WEST SIDE STORY – Review

WEST SIDE STORY is the exception to the rule that remaking a classic is pointless task. In fact, in some ways it is a better film. No wonder with the stellar team behind it – directed Steven Spielberg, script adapted by Tony Kushner, cinematography by Janusz Kaminski, and with executive producer Rita Moreno, the EGOT plus Pulitzer winner (one of the world’s three) who starred in original film as Anita, the only real Puerto Rican cast member in the 1961 film.

WEST SIDE STORY is one of the great classics of musical theater, first on the Broadway stage in 1957 and then in a 1961 movie version, with choreography by Jerome Robbins, music by composer Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by playwright Arthur Laurents. The story, based on Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” is still set in the same 1957 New York but now the story takes place in a gritty, more realistic setting, with rubble in the streets as well as passersby and vintage cars. Tony Kushner adapted his script from the stage play rather than the movie, so audiences will notices a few differences from the familiar movie, as well as some updates to make the film more accessible for modern audiences. This story takes place in a neighborhood under the shadow of “urban renewal,” the destructive wholesale “clearance” of whole poor neighborhoods for redevelopment for the more affluent. Two juvenile street gangs, the Jets and the Sharks, are vying for dominance over the neighborhood, even as it is being emptied to make way for the new Lincoln Center.

The Sharks are recent arrivals from Puerto Rico while the Jets are the descendants of earlier immigrants from Ireland, Italy and Poland, who resent the new arrivals. Against that backdrop, Tony (Ansel Elgort), once a member of the Jets, meets and falls in love with Puerto Rican Maria (Rachel Zegler), the sister of Bernardo (David Alvarez), the leader of the Sharks. Maria lives with her brother and his girlfriend Anita (Ariana DeBose), who has taken the young girl under her wing.

The Jets are now led by Riff (Mike Faist), Tony’s childhood friend, who hopes to bring his pal back into the gang, at least for a showdown with the Sharks. Rita Moreno, who played Anita in the original film, now plays the widow of Doc, the kindly pharmacist who employed and advised Tony, a role that she plays in this version. Corey Stoll plays police detective Lieutenant Schrank and Brian d’Arcy James plays the frustrated Officer Krupke, while Josh Andrés Rivera plays Chino, the Puerto Rican boy that Bernardo has picked out for his sister Maria.

The immigrants theme was ground-breaking in 1957 but that the issue remains timely gives the story a contemporary hook. While the basic story remains the same, there are some changes, Some lyrics and dialog are gently updated to reflect modern sensibilities and address old issues, which gives the film a more contemporary feel. Some songs are sung in a different order or even sung by a different character but the changes do not change the basic story or its audience appeal. These changes seamlessly blended in by using musical arrangements and singing style similar to the 1961 movie.

Casting is also different, as this version corrects some cringe-worthy choices in the original cast, by casting more Hispanics in those roles. Unlike the 1961 film, the stars do their own singing, and both Ansel Elgort and Rachel Zegler do well in that respect.

Dancing remains a strong point in this film, with several fast, colorful, pulse-raising production numbers that are highlights. While the leads are focal points for songs, the supporting characters lead the dance numbers with Mike Faist as Riff and Ariana DeBose as Anita soaring to impressive heights. Both are triple threats, excelling in acting, singing and dancing, particularly dancing for Faist and singing for DeBose.

This is a musical with so many memorable songs. Highlights include the “America” production number, now opened up on to the streets and even more colorful, and the very funny “Officer Krupke” number, now set in a police station retains its punch. The “Tonight” duet has all the romance audiences could want, and the opening “Jets” number retains all its energy, with a little extra menace added in.

The cinematography by the legendary Janusz Kaminski adds greatly to the film. The strong use of slanting light adds drama, the dance numbers are brilliant and electric, and the night time scenes are filled with stabs of light, from street lights, searchlights, and headlights, adding a jolt of electricity to many scenes.

While some will still cite the 1961 classic film as their favorite, a good case can be made that this one is the better film, meaning Spielberg and Kushner have pulled off the near-impossible – remaking a classic and topping the original.
