Virgin Mobile USA’s To Build Water Wells In Sudan To Honor MACHINE GUN PREACHER

FACEBOOK FANS WHO PLEDGE TO SPREAD THE WORD
ABOUT NEW RELATIVITY MEDIA/VIRGIN PRODUCED FILM
WILL GET THEIR NAMES ENGRAVED ON WELLS

Warren, N.J. Sept. 21, 2011 Virgin Mobile USA and production company Virgin Produced announced a special program today to support Relativity’s upcoming Machine Gun Preacher, featuring Gerard Butler’s (300) searing performance as Sam Childers, the impassioned founder of the Angels of East Africa rescue organization in this moving story of violence and redemption, directed by Golden Globe-nominated Marc Forster (Monster’s Ball). The program will encourage both college students and Facebook fans at large to pledge their support for the story behind Machine Gun Preacher, which releases theatrically in New York and Los Angeles on Sept. 23, and in additional markets in the weeks to follow.

Virgin Mobile USA will first ask Facebook fans on their fan page (www.facebook.com/virginmobilelive) to sign a pledge to support this film. This pledge will inspire several ways a fan can support the film’s release, including viewing the trailer or spreading word about the film via Facebook or Twitter. Fans who pledge their support for the film on facebook.com/virginmobilelive during the first two weeks of the film’s release (ending on Oct. 2) will also have their names engraved on one of the wells in Africa. To build awareness and momentum for this effort, Virgin Mobile USA will invade social networks and college campuses with an army of street teams to attract pledges to raise awareness in the New York City and Los Angeles areas. Among campuses targeted are UCLA, USC, Columbia University, NYU, and Baruch College.

Machine Gun Preacher is a beautiful film about one man’s struggle to make a difference, despite facing adversity,” said Ron Faris, marketing director for Virgin Mobile USA. “We hope by getting our Facebook fans to support this film, it’s now our audience that will turn to help one man and his inspired team. Virgin Mobile fans are not only stylish and savvy, but socially conscious as well. We’re thrilled to give them an opportunity to spread the word and take action.”

Leveraging the vast number of school clubs motivated by today’s most pressing social matters, the hope is that students will rally around the initiative and flock to New York’s AMC Lincoln Square and Regal Union Square, and Los Angeles’ AMC Century City and ArcLight Hollywood on Sept. 23.

“Relativity and Virgin Produced are proud to work together to inspire audiences of Machine Gun Preacher to take action in helping East African countries access clean drinking water. We believe it is vital to boost awareness, and to encourage people to mobilize on behalf of this cause,” Jason Felts, CEO, Virgin Produced and Ryan Kavanaugh, CEO, Relativity Media said jointly.

Machine Gun Preacher is the inspirational true story of Sam Childers (Butler), a former drug-dealing criminal who undergoes an astonishing transformation and finds an unexpected calling as the savior of hundreds of kidnapped and orphaned children in East Africa. The explosive, real-life tale of a man who has rescued more than a thousand orphans from starvation, diseases and enslavement, Machine Gun Preacher is written by Jason Keller (Relativity’s Untitled Snow White) and also stars Michelle Monaghan (Source Code), Kathy Baker (Cold Mountain), Madeline Carroll (Mr. Popper’s Penguins), Academy Award®-nominated Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road), and Souleyman Sy Savane (Damages). When a mother and daughter are found brutally murdered in 19th century Baltimore, Detective Emmett Fields (Luke Evans) makes a startling discovery: the crime resembles a fictional murder described in gory detail in the local newspaper – part of a collection of stories penned by struggling writer and social pariah Edgar Allan Poe. But even as Poe is questioned by police, another grisly murder occurs, also inspired by a popular Poe story.

Realizing a serial killer is on the loose using Poe’s writings as the backdrop for his bloody rampage, Fields enlists the author’s help in stopping the attacks. But when it appears someone close to Poe may become the murderer’s next victim, the stakes become even higher and the inventor of the detective story calls on his own powers of deduction to try to solve the case before it’s too late.

New SHARK NIGHT 3D Photos

Check out the new images from SHARK NIGHT 3D where a summer weekend turns into a blood-soaked nightmare for a group of college students hunted by blood-thirsty underwater predators…AND IN A LAKE!!

Click HERE to see the shark bait photos Relativity Media released in July at Comic Con. Look for the film in theaters September 2nd.

Arriving by boat at her family’s Louisiana lake island cabin, Sara (Sara Paxton) and her friends quickly strip down to their swimsuits for a weekend of fun in the sun. But when star football player Malik (Sinqua Walls) stumbles from the saltwater lake with his arm torn off, the party mood suddenly darkens. Nick (Dustin Milligan), a shy pre-med student, finds himself taking charge – administering first aid and informing Sara they dont have a minute to spare to get Malik to a hospital on the other side of the lake.

Setting out in a tiny speedboat, the college friends quickly discover the lake has been stocked with hundreds of massive, flesh-eating sharks. When the boat malfunctions in mid-trip, marooning them without medical care or a way to call for help, they are shocked to find that it has been deliberately sabotaged. As they face one gruesome attack after another, it becomes frighteningly clear that someone is engineering a deadly plot aimed at killing them all. With their options for rescue dwindling, Sara and the others struggle to fend off the sharks, get help and stay alive long enough to reach the safety of dry land.

Relativity Media Teams With SAIF Partners And IDG China Media To Build A Global Content & Distribution Company

Deal Announced on Heels of Strategic Partnership with Huaxia Film Distribution Company
SAIF Partners and IDG China Media Bring Relativity Media in as Partner of SkyLand Film and Television Cultural Development Ltd. (“SkyLand”), which Will Serve as the Platform for Their Future China Film Endeavors

PRESS RELEASE:

(Beijing, China) August 14, 2011 – SAIF Partners, a leading Asian Private Equity Firm, and IDG China Media, a China-focused investment arm of Boston-headquartered International Data Group (IDG), and Relativity Media announced today that they have formed a partnership to develop, produce, distribute and acquire Chinese material that also possesses worldwide appeal.

Relativity will distribute all of its future films in China, including Immortals, Act of Valor, and Relativity’s Untitled Snow White Project through SkyLand. SkyLand is a fully-funded, vertically-integrated film and multimedia production, distribution and financing company, which was jointly owned and controlled by SAIF Partners and IDG China Media, and now is also owned by Relativity. SkyLand is also partnered with a China-based RMB fund to co-invest in local film and television content and production, which is the equivalent of $100 million US dollars. The parties are already working on numerous projects which will bring well-known Chinese folklore and content to the big screen and to audiences worldwide.

SkyLand functioned as SAIF Partners and IDG China Media’s entertainment arm, and most-recently co-produced Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, inspired by the worldwide best-selling novel by Lisa See, with screenplay penned by Academy Award® winning writer Ron Bass (Amelia) and directed by Wayne Wong (The Joy Luck Club). Backed by two leading investment firms in China and now co-owned by Relativity Media, SkyLand is on track to grow into a competitive production and distribution entity at the forefront of American and Chinese entertainment and media. SkyLand was formed by SAIF and IDG over two years ago and has been very active in and at the forefront of the Chinese film and television business.

“China is the fastest-growing film market in the world, with over 6,000 screens and over $1.5 billion in box office revenue last year, an increase of over 60% last year alone. We’re excited to be entering into this booming market with such great partners in SAIF, IDG and our new strategic partnership with Huaxia. Given the substantial platform created by SAIF and IDG in SkyLand, we believe together we can grow a distribution business in China which brings global product to China, and brings Chinese product to the global market,” said Relativity’s CEO, Ryan Kavanaugh.

Andy Yan, Managing Partner of SAIF and a large investor in SkyLand and Relativity said, “The China entertainment industry has become one of the fastest and most lucrative industries in China today. Until now, there has been a major void in bridging the two worlds of the American and Chinese film industries. After spending significant time learning about Relativity’s business and how they approach the international markets, we couldn’t be more pleased to have entered into what will undoubtedly be a revolutionary shift in the China film business as we know it. Relativity’s business model has revolutionized the film business in the US, and this partnership will do the same for China.”

Hugo Shong, Founding General Partner of IDG China Media and a co-financier of SkyLand said, “We couldn’t be more excited about creating this revolutionary partnership, and simultaneously entering into a strategic partnership with Huaxia, who has successfully distributed such films as Harry Potter, Transformers, Kung-Fu Panda, Fast Five, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, 2012, Alice in Wonderland, Sherlock Holmes and many others in China.”

Steven Soderbergh’s HAYWIRE Trailer Packs A Punch

It pains me to say this, but watch Michael Fassbender get the crap kicked out of him in this trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s HAYWIRE. Mixed martial arts (MMA) superstar Gina Carano (American Gladiators) makes her feature film debut, starring and performing her own high-adrenaline stunts.

At Friday’s Haywire Comic Con panel, Soderbergh said he discovered Carano when he saw her fight on TV for the 1st time and wondered why no one built a movie around her. There wasn’t even a story in mind when the two first met. Soderbergh said, “I felt it would be fun to watch it be created around her.”

In HAYWIRE, an electrifying tale of espionage and betrayal, a female covert ops specialist (Carano), who works in the deadly world of international operatives, strikes back after discovering she’s been double-crossed by someone close to her in the agency. The film is produced by Gregory Jacobs (Ocean’s Trilogy) and written by Lem Dobbs (The Limey).

The film’s cast also includes Channing Tatum (GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra), Ewan McGregor (The Ghost Writer), Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class), Antonio Banderas (Desperado), Bill Paxton (Titanic), Michael Douglas (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps) and Michael Angarano (Almost Famous). HAYWIRE will be in theatres January 20, 2012.
