The nuts and bolts of the irresistibly danceable music called Tejano are pop, rock, polka, R&B and Latin influences. To millions of fans, there’s another vital ingredient: the dynamic singer Selena. Selena is the vibrant story of the Grammy®-winning singer whose life ended at its creative peak. Pulsating with Selena’s voice on the soundtrack, the film is bracingly authentic. In the title role, Jennifer Lopez powerfully captures the warmth and electricity of a beloved entertainer. Edward James Olmos, Jon Seda and others also shine in “a poignant, heartwarming movie that deserves a standing ovation” (Jules Peimer, WKDM-RADIO/NEW YORK).

The triumph and tragedy of the life of the Queen of Tejano Music, Selena Quintanilla, are depicted in this vibrant biopic from director Gregory Nava and overseen by Selena’s father/manager Abraham, that launched the career of another superstar, Jennifer Lopez. Lopez stars along with the legendary Edward James Olmos (as Abraham) in this cinema celebration of the girl from South Texas with global talent, incredible will and magnetic charm. The film wisely and sensitively chooses to focus on Selena’s life, struggles and astonishing abilities to weave pop, rock, polka, R&B and Latin music into a crossover phenomenon that forever changed the course of popular music. The film gets its long overdue royal treatment on this stunning Blu-ray with highly defined audio as well as visuals, as is only proper. Jon Seda co-stars. New GREEN HORNET Poster

Oh yeah! I love these overhead, “hornet-on-the-wall” type posters. Well, I do. ComingSoon.net provides us with the first look at the latest poster of Columbia Pictures’ GREEN HORNET. Just look at the Black Beauty in all her glory….misty headlights and all. The Michel Gondry directed movie is stylishly coming into light.

In case you missed it, here’s the trailer that had it’s broadcast world premiere on JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE TONIGHT in June.

Synopsis:

Britt Reid is the son of LA’s most prominent and respected media magnate and perfectly happy to maintain a directionless existence on the party scene — until his father mysteriously dies, leaving Britt his vast media empire. Striking an unlikely friendship with one of his father’s more industrious and inventive employees, Kato, they see their chance to do something meaningful for the first time in their lives: fight crime. But in order to do this, they decide to become criminals themselves — protecting the law by breaking it, Britt becomes the vigilante The Green Hornet as he and Kato hit the streets. Using all his ingenuity and skill, Kato builds the ultimate in advanced retro weaponry, The Black Beauty, an indestructible car equal parts firepower and horsepower. Rolling in a mobile fortress on wheels and striking the bad guys with Kato’s clever gadgets, The Green Hornet and Kato quickly start making a name for themselves, and with the help of Britt’s new secretary, Lenore Case, they begin hunting down the man who controls LA’s gritty underworld: Benjamin Chudnofsky. But Chudnofsky has plans of his own: to swat down The Green Hornet once and for all.

The GREEN HORNET will be in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters on January 14, 2011.

‘The Green Hornet’ Begins Principal Photography

Shooting has officially begun on the Seth Rogen-starring, Michel Gondry-directed, Stephen Chow-nothing ‘Green Hornet’ adaptation.  Production begins on the heels of the news the film would be getting pushed back from its original release date of July 7th, 2010.  The film will now be bowing in theaters on December 17th instead, and, according to Rogen, this will give the people behind the film plenty of room to breath and make the best movie they can.

Jay Chou has filled the role of Kato left vacant by the departing Stephen Chow.  Chow moved on from the project officially in the middle of July, though his connection with the film was flimsy at best considering the way Rogen explained it when we spoke to him in March.  Chou is an actor/pop star from Taiwan, and he enters a cast that includes Rogen, Cameron Diaz, Edward James Olmos and Tom Wilkinson.  Nicolas Cage is rumoured to have a part in the film, as well, though nothing has been confirmed.

Thanks to Coming Soon for the heads up on this bit of news.
