Anvil Set to Explode in GREEN HORNET

anvil

The Canadian metal band, Anvil, has been waiting decades to explode, and, thanks to Michel Gondry and THE GREEN HORNET, they’ll get their chance to do just that.  An article in the LA Times about the documentary about the band, ANVIL! THE STORY OF ANVIL, also makes mention the band has filmed a cameo for the Seth Rogen-starring superhero movie.  There is no mention who the band will be playing specifically, whether it be themselves or a made-up band for the film.  What the article does say, however, is that the band will (literally) explode during their cameo at a rock club.  Nothing like dying doing what you love, right?

While this news of Anvil’s cameo in THE GREEN HORNET was brought up as an aside in the article, the main focus is the fact that ANVIL! has become the first screener sent out to Academy Awards voters.  The film is available on DVD, and is deserving of any Oscar recommendations it can get.  It truly is a real life version of THIS IS SPINAL TAP.  You can check out Tom’s review of it right here, and you can order the DVD right here.

THE GREEN HORNET is set for release on December 22nd, 2010.

‘Anvil: A Night with Anvil’, 22 minutes of epic awesomeness

anvilnight

On Saturday night we ventured out to have Anvil rock our faces off. First we watched ‘Anvil: The Story of Anvil’, followed by a performance from the band!

Myself, AJ, Brooke, Matt and Bryan hung out down in the loop for a few hours before our screening so we could interview the band, plus I had to intro the film. We ended up getting our wires crossed(Lips was hungry and needed to eat) so our interview didnt go down, but as a consolation prize we recorded the Q&A plus their performance after the screening. We did however get to interview Mike the sound guy and he was freaking awesome.

AJ got some epic footage from Saturday night and he put together a 22 minute video of Anvil Awesomeness for you to enjoy below:

‘Anvil: The Story of Anvil’ the movie and the band are here tomorrow night in St Louis

This Saturday, the 26th at The Tivoli there is a special screening of ‘Anvil: The Story of Anvil’ followed up by a q&a after the 7 and 9 screenings. I will be moderating both q&a’s so make sure you come out and see me make a fool of myself.

Also, as a special surpise Anvil will perform after the 9pm screening, so your ticket to see this freaking awesome movie will get you the movie, a Q&A moderated by me, and a special performance from the band! If you dont come out to this I dont even know who you are.

Also lets not forget that Myself and AJ Meadows will be in attendance so you can meet us before our movie blows up so big that we have egos and never talk to you again.

SXSW 2009 Preview: ‘Anvil! The Story of Anvil’

anvil

Are you ready to rock?!?   The documentary ‘Anvil! The Story of Anvil’ tells the true-life account of Anvil, a Canadian metal band formed in 1978.   The film is directed by Sacha Gervasi.

Here’s the synopsis:

“At 14, Toronto school friends Steve “Lips” Kudlow and Robb Reiner made a pact to rock together forever. Their band, Anvil, went on to become the “demigods of Canadian metal,” releasing one of the heaviest albums in metal history, 1982’s Metal on Metal. The album influenced a musical generation, including Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax, that went on to sell millions of records. But Anvil’s career took a different path – straight to obscurity.

Director Sacha Gervasi has concocted a wonderful and often hilarious account of Anvil’s last-ditch quest for elusive fame and fortune. His ingenious filmmaking may first lead you to think this a mockumentary, but it isn’t. Gervasi joined the legendary heavy-metal band as a roadie for a tour of Canadian hockey arenas, so he has intimate insight into the members’ eccentricities. It’s fascinating to see the reality of their day-to-day lives as they struggle to make ends meet, take a misguided European tour, and engage in antics on the road – which is not always lined with fans. Gervasi even finds a softer center to this raucous film, introducing us to band members’ ever-supportive, but long-suffering, families. At its core, Anvil! The True Story of Anvil is a timeless tale of survival and the unadulterated passion it takes to follow your dream, year after year. Anvil rocks – it has no other choice.”
