New Poster And TV Spot For CREED Feature Michael B. Jordan And Sylvester Stallone

creed one-sht

Fans of the Rocky films, get ready.

Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first poster and TV spot, starring Sylvester Stallone and Michael B. Jordan, for the highly-anticipated movie, CREED.

Adonis Johnson (Jordan) never knew his famous father, world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, who died before he was born. Still, there’s no denying that boxing is in his blood, so Adonis heads to Philadelphia, the site of Apollo Creed’s legendary match with a tough upstart named Rocky Balboa.

Once in the City of Brotherly Love, Adonis tracks Rocky (Stallone) down and asks him to be his trainer. Despite his insistence that he is out of the fight game for good, Rocky sees in Adonis the strength and determination he had known in Apollo—the fierce rival who became his closest friend. Agreeing to take him on, Rocky trains the young fighter, even as the former champ is battling an opponent more deadly than any he faced in the ring.

With Rocky in his corner, it isn’t long before Adonis gets his own shot at the title…but can he develop not only the drive but also the heart of a true fighter, in time to get into the ring?

CREED also stars Tessa Thompson (“Selma,” “Dear White People”) as Bianca, a local singer-songwriter who becomes involved with Adonis; Phylicia Rashad (Lifetime’s “Steel Magnolias”) as Mary Anne Creed, Apollo’s widow; and English pro boxer and former three-time ABA Heavyweight Champion Anthony Bellew as boxing champ “Pretty” Ricky Conlan.

Ryan Coogler directs from a screenplay he wrote with Aaron Covington, based on characters from the “Rocky” series written by Sylvester Stallone.

Joining Coogler behind the scenes are director of photography Maryse Alberti (“The Wrestler”) and costume designers Emma Potter (“Song One”) and Antoinette Messam (“Orphan”), as well as his “Fruitvale Station” team: editors Michael P. Shawver and Claudia Castello; production designer Hannah Beachler; and composer Ludwig Göransson.

CREED opens in theaters on November 25.

Watch The Latest SPECTRE Vlog

spectre-Spectre-Onesheet_rgb

The latest vlog on the making of SPECTRE is all about the action sequences. Hear what director Sam Mendes, Second Unit Director Alexander Witt, First Assistant Director Michael Lerman and Special Effects Supervisor Chris Corbould have to say about the upcoming 007 film.

A cryptic message from the past sends James Bond (Daniel Craig) on a rogue mission to Mexico City and eventually Rome, where he meets Lucia Sciarra (Monica Bellucci), the beautiful and forbidden widow of an infamous criminal. Bond infiltrates a secret meeting and uncovers the existence of the sinister organisation known as SPECTRE.

Meanwhile back in London, Max Denbigh (Andrew Scott), the new head of the Centre for National Security, questions Bond’s actions and challenges the relevance of MI6, led by M (Ralph Fiennes). Bond covertly enlists Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) and Q (Ben Whishaw) to help him seek out Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux), the daughter of his old nemesis Mr White (Jesper Christensen), who may hold the clue to untangling the web of SPECTRE. As the daughter of an assassin, she understands Bond in a way most others cannot.

As Bond ventures towards the heart of SPECTRE, he learns of a chilling connection between himself and the enemy he seeks, played by Christoph Waltz.

Sam Mendes returns to direct SPECTRE, with Daniel Craig reprising his role as 007 for the fourth time. SPECTRE is produced by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. The screenplay is by John Logan and Neal Purvis & Robert Wade and Jez Butterworth, with a story by John Logan and Neal Purvis & Robert Wade.

SPECTRE

On Sept. 8, Albert R. Broccoli’s EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, and Sony Pictures Entertainment confirmed that Sam Smith had recorded “Writing’s On The Wall,” the theme song to SPECTRE, the 24th James Bond adventure.

The song, released by Capitol Records, will debut and be available to purchase and stream on Friday, September 25.

Multi-platinum selling artist Sam Smith has co-written the title song, “Writing’s On The Wall,” with fellow GRAMMY Award winner Jimmy Napes. It is the first James Bond theme song recorded by a British male solo artist since 1965.

SPECTRE is set for release in the UK on October 26, 2015, and in the US on November 6, 2015.

CINDERELLA – The Blu Review

Cinderella-cinderella-2015-38086567-1920-1280

“I can’t drive, I’m a goose.”

Sir Kenneth Branagh’s live action adaptation of CINDERELLA for Disney Studios may not add anything new to the beloved tale, but with an excellent cast and an elegant sense of style, it made for a magical and quite charming version of the story that all ages could enjoy.

Cinderella_2015_50

When Melissa Howland reviewed CINDERELLA here at We Are Movie Geeks, she wrote: “Stunning costumes, sets, and CGI make for an enchanting journey onscreen. Every character had a specific set of colors that they were identified with that allowed them to stand out in their own right. Rather than going with the traditional castle, they built an entire kingdom, which was a bold but rewarding choice”  Read all of Melissa’s review HERE

cinderella-story-01

Now CINDERELLA has been released on Blu-ray from Disney and We Are Movie Geeks has had a peek.

cinderella-still-cinderella-2015-38146081-1600-1067

CINDERELLA’s 1080p/AVC-encoded Blu-ray image is across-the-board stunning. The image is very nearly noiseless, even the darkest scenes. What grabs you immediately, though, is just how sharp the picture is, from start to finish. The finest details of the actors’ faces and clothing are visible in every frame—the slight wrinkles around Cate Blanchett’s mouth, Lily James’ bushy eyebrows, the threading and texture of Sandy Powell’s magnificent costume work. Clarity- wise, this is one of the best Blu-ray images I’ve seen so far this year.

Cin-050-35087R

Nearly as impressive is the film’s lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 surround track, which features excellent clarity and almost non-stop immersion. The rear channels are busy with effects and ambience—water lapping and bells tolling, creatures slinking through the forest and behind our heads, and horse-drawn carriages bolting across the soundstage. Throughout it all, dialogue is clean, balanced, and easily understood.

The extras are typically Disney-generous:

  • A Fairy Tale Comes to Life: Filmmakers and cast reflect on Cinderella‘s enduring power, along with the many joys and challenges of bringing this iconic tale to life.
  • Costume Test Fun: See the work of Academy Award-winning® Costume Designer Sandy Powell (The Aviator, 2004) and share some lighthearted moments with the cast.
  • Staging The Ball: You’re invited behind the scenes for the making of the Palace Ball sequence, including its spectacular set, stunning costumes and more. It’s a lavish and massive undertaking…and a magical day on set.
  • Ella’s Furry Friends: Discover how the movie’s animal stars honed their memorable performances.
  • Alternate Opening, Ella’s Childhood: View moments from Ella’s idyllic childhood that do not appear in the movie. Introduction by Branagh.
  • Frozen Fever: It’s Anna’s birthday, and Elsa and Kristoff are determined to give her the best celebration ever – but when Elsa catches a cold, her powers may put more than just the party at risk.

Olivia Wilde And Luke Wilson Star In New Trailer For Reed Morano’s MEADOWLAND

MEADOWLAND_Feature-Image_v02a_2015-03-16_JF

Cinedigm has released the new trailer for director Reed Morano’s MEADOWLAND.

The drama screened in April at the Tribeca Film Festival. In her review, Sheila O’Malley (rogerebert.com) said Morano’s movie, “shows a strong visual style, at times overwrought and hallucinatory, at other times quiet and focused. The acting is terrific and grounded, without the expected theatrics or huge breakdowns. Grief is an enclosed and very silent world. That’s the thing that nobody tells you about it, and that’s the devastating process shown in “Meadowland.”

One of the must-see movies of 2015, the cast includes Olivia Wilde, Luke Wilson, Giovanni Ribisi, Elisabeth Moss, Ty Simpkins, John Leguizamo, Kevin Corrigan, Merritt Wever, Scott Mescudi, Mark Feuerstein and Juno Temple.

In the hazy aftermath of an unimaginable loss, married couple Sarah (Olivia Wilde, Rush) and Phil (Luke Wilson, The Skeleton Twins) come unhinged, recklessly ignoring the repercussions. Phil, a New York City cop, starts to lose sight of his morals as Sarah puts herself in increasingly dangerous situations, falling deeper into her own fever dream.

The directorial debut of cinematographer Reed Morano and written by Chris Rossi, MEADOWLAND is a visceral exploration of grief and hope.

Check out the movie when it opens in theaters October 16th, On Demand October 23rd.

New Poster For Walt Disney Animation Studio’s ZOOTOPIA Arrives

ZTA_CROSSWALK_SIGN_1s_v14.0r_Composed_Mechv8_5MB

The animals hit the big city in this latest poster for Walt Disney Animation Studio’s ZOOTOPIA.

In case you missed it, here’s another look at the funny teaser trailer from over the summer.

The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other.

Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when optimistic Officer Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy.

Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman), to solve the mystery.

In August, D23 EXPO fans learned, via a taped message from Shakira, that the singer would be lending her Grammy-winning voice to Gazelle, the biggest pop star in Zootopia. At the Expo, hilarious new scenes from the film were unveiled, plus a tease of the all-new original song, “Try Everything,” written by singer-songwriter Sia and songwriting duo Stargate, and performed by Shakira.

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ ZOOTOPIA, a comedy-adventure directed by Byron Howard (“Tangled,” “Bolt”) and Rich Moore (“Wreck-It Ralph,” “The Simpsons”) and co-directed by Jared Bush (“Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero”), opens in theaters on March 4, 2016.

ZOOTOPIA

WILDLIKE – The Review

091

She is a tiny little woman, a girl really, her eyes big and scared, she chews nervously on her sleeves, she looks at everyone with suspicion and maybe a bit of hope. She wears way too much eye makeup and her nail polish is always chipped and fading. She looks lost and alone in a waiting area of what may be a train station, airport or bus station. It is a waiting area for a ferry to Juneau, Alaska.

Her Mother is ill and Father deceased. Mother will be entering a hospital in Seattle, Washington, where they live, Mother can’t take care of her anymore. She is being sent to Juneau to stay with an Uncle, (known only as Uncle, played by Brian Geraghty). This is MacKenzie, the fragile but resourceful heroine of WILDLIKE.

At first her Uncle seems to have been sent from Heaven.  She gets her own room in a nice home, a brand new phone, she gets to visit where Uncle works and seems to have dreams for a future of her own with maybe a job, boyfriend, a home.  She is only 14.

And, as it must, reality comes crashing in.  Uncle comes into her bed, several times.  Later he will blame her for what occurs, naturally.  She takes all the cash she can from Uncle and at the first opportunity runs off, leading to an adventure where we hope that she will not end up victimized further or worse.

She sleeps in unlocked cars, tries to scam backpackers staying in a nice hotel she cannot afford.  She learns to use her own emerging womanhood to get what she needs.

Her goal is to get back to Seattle,  she stumbles, more or less by chance into the company of Rene Bartlett (Bruce Greenwood) another back packer.  His goal is to hike the trail through the Denali (used to be McKinley) National forest.  The last thing he wants is an inexperienced, unprepared teenage tag along, but that is exactly what he gets.

As they must MacKenzie and Bartlett hike the trail together and learn much about each other and themselves.  MacKenzie hit it lucky when she attached herself to Bartlett.  He is a good and decent man and does the right thing.  He even goes to Juneau and confronts Uncle, after he discovers what transpired, and does not do what we expect.

This is not a typical Hollywood movie with explosive behavior and dialog.  This is the kind of character and story driven project that has a hard time getting into multiplex theaters, where the blockbuster mentality rules what gets exhibited.

All the actors are excellent but the movie belongs to Ella Purnell, who showed such promise in The Intruders and Kick Ass 2 and Maleficent.  Here is a young actress rapidly coming into her own.  Bruce Greenwood is also simply astonishing.  A familiar presence from the Star Trek films he makes a good and decent man, (a type we don’t see much in movies anymore) into a  believable and interesting character.

The Alaskan wilderness is a character unto itself.  Movies seem to come in cycles, WILDLIKE is coming at the end of a cycle of films like Into The Wild, The Way, Wild and A Walk in the Woods where characters are isolated in wilderness settings, often taking a long hike on a well traveled path, and in the process learning about themselves.

WILDLIKE is a masterpiece of that type of story, we come to care very deeply about MacKenzie, and Bartlett, and hopefully something about ourselves in the process.

Five out of five stars
