Mel Gibson And Vince Vaughn To Star In DRAGGED ACROSS CONCRETE

Academy Award® Winner Mel Gibson (Braveheart) and Vince Vaughn (Hacksaw Ridge, Wedding Crashers) will star in Dragged Across Concrete, written and to be directed by S. Craig Zahler (Bone Tomahawk). The film will mark another production for Keith Kjarval of Unified Pictures and financed by the recently announced Unified Film Fund I slate, which is partnered with Look to the Sky Films. The fund, comprised of Victory Square Labs and its equity partner Fantasy 360 (FYS:CN)(OTC:FNTYF)(6F6.F) along with The Fyzz Facility, was announced at the most recent Cannes. The film will also be produced by Zahler’s frequent collaborators, Dallas Sonnier under his new Cinestate banner, and Jack Heller of Assemble Media. BLOOM will commence international sales on the thriller at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin, with WME Global representing the U.S. rights.

A stolid, old guard policeman, Ridgeman (Gibson) and his volatile younger partner, Anthony (Vaughn), find themselves suspended when a video of their strong-arming tactics become the media’s special du jour. Low on cash and with no other options, these two embittered soldiers descend into the criminal underworld to gain their just due, but instead find far more than they wanted awaiting them in the shadows.

BLOOM’s Alex Walton said, “Mel and Vince have a truly unique energy and, subsequent to their recent success with Hacksaw Ridge, have formed a dynamic chemistry that will coincide seamlessly with Craig’s vision. Dragged Across Concrete will pave the way for filmmaking, reviving the power of intelligent dialogue combined with electrically charged grit and action.”

Zahler added, “Dragged Across Concrete is best suited to my goal of making a heartfelt, surprising, sad, funny, shocking, and memorable world with multiple viewpoints. As is often the case in my novels and screenplays, the protagonists are in perilous circumstances against which they struggle in different and surprising—though logical—ways. I am absolutely thrilled to have Mel and Vince agree to play the lead roles.”

Gibson and Vaughn most recently collaborated on the critically acclaimed and lauded war drama Hacksaw Ridge, which Gibson directed. The film received six Academy Award nominations including best picture and best director for Gibson. Other accolades, Hacksaw Ridge won the AFI Movie of the Year Award, swept the 2017 Australian Film Academy’s prizes and earned three Golden Globe and two SAG nominations.

Zahler is currently in post-production on Brawl in Cell Block 99 which also stars Vaughn alongside Jennifer Carpenter and Don Johnson. He previously wrote and directed Indie Spirit Award nominated western Bone Tomahawk, starring Kurt Russell and Patrick Wilson.

Jeremy Renner, Alec Baldwin, Heidi Klum, James Franco, Omar Sy Featured In Open Road’s ARCTIC JUSTICE: THUNDER SQUAD

Open Road Films has acquired all U.S. rights to ARCTIC JUSTICE: THUNDER SQUAD – the epic 3D CGI animated family film from Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi’s AMBI Media Group. The movie features the voices of Jeremy Renner, Alec Baldwin, Heidi Klum, John Cleese, James Franco, Anjelica Huston and Omar Sy, and is directed by Aaron Woodley. The announcement was made today by Tom Ortenberg, CEO of Open Road Films.

Open Road will release ARCTIC JUSTICE wide in 2018. Animation work for the film is currently being done out of AMBI’s Toronto based studio, AIC Studios. The movie is fully financed and being produced by AMBI and its principals, Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi.

Swifty (Jeremy Renner), an arctic fox, dreams of becoming one the famous Top Dogs, a team of huskies that deliver packages for the Arctic Blast Delivery Service. In the Arctic, every day trips can quickly turn into epic journeys, which make the Top Dogs the Arctic’s every day heroes.

In an effort to prove himself, Swifty secretly commandeers a delivery sled to takes a mysterious package to a secret, icy, fortress where he comes face to face with Doc Walrus (John Cleese), a blubbery evil genius who walks around on robotic legs, and commands a loyal army of oddly polite puffins. Swifty stumbles upon Doc Walrus’ evil plan to drill to the center of the Earth to unleash enough lava to melt the polar ice caps in order to flood the planet and become be king of the world.

Now, Swifty has to enlist the help of his friends: PB (Alec Baldwin), an introverted polar bear, Lemmy (James Franco), a scatter-brained rock and roll albatross, Sal (Omar Sy) and Weez (Heidi Klum), two conspiracy theorist otters, and Jade, a red fox, who’s a tough as nails mechanic that Swifty has a secret crush on. This ragtag team has to band together and overcome their differences if they’re going to stop Doc Walrus and his army of Puffins from destroying the world.

Michael-John Voss, co-founder of the Arch City Defenders will be in attendance and wil lead a Q&A after the screening. This is a FREE event.

A film about the prison and its life in the American landscape. More people are imprisoned in the United States at this moment than in any other time or place in history, yet the prison itself has never felt further away or more out of sight. THE PRISON IN TWELVE LANDSCAPES is a film about the prison in which we never see a penitentiary. Instead, the film unfolds as a cinematic journey through a series of landscapes across the USA where prisons do work and affect lives, from a California mountainside where female prisoners fight raging wildfires, to a Bronx warehouse full of goods destined for the state correctional system, to an Appalachian coal town betting its future on the promise of prison jobs.

Join us for some old-school 16mm Movie Madness! – It’s our monthly 16MM DOUBLE FEATURE NIGHT at The Way Out Club (2525 Jefferson Avenue in St. Louis)! Join Tom Stockman and Roger from “Roger’s Reels’ for a double feature of two complete films projected on 16mm film. The show is Tuesday February 7th and starts at 8pm. Admission is FREE though we will be setting out a jar to take donations for the National Children’s Cancer Society.

First up is TRADING PLACES

TRADING PLACE is a beloved fish out of water comedy from 1983. The filthy rich Duke brothers (Ralph Bellamy and Don Ameche) conduct a cruel experiment on two completely opposite (and completely oblivious) young men to prove that they could quite easily and successfully trade places.
Dan Aykroyd plays business executive Lewis Winthorpe III, a wealthy snob who works for the callous Duke brothers, and Eddie Murphy is Billy Ray Valentine, a street hoodlum who takes his place, Movie mayhem and hilarity ensue. The supporting is perfect. Denholm Elliot is the ideal butler, Jamie Lee Curtis a great friend in the right place at the right time, and both Ralph Bellamy and Don Ameche are close to perfection as the aging, moody owners of Duke and Duke. A film of considerable enjoyment that should be high on the list for all comedy fans, TRADING PLACES holds up well after 34 years. This is an uncut print.

Richly atmospheric, MACON COUNTY LINE (1975) drips 1950s backwoods Louisiana atmosphere in a story about two laid-back and basically decent dudes (brothers Alan and Jesse Vint), who joyride through the South, with no particular goal in mind. Along the way, they pick up a Southern belle (Cheryl Waters). But a car problem puts them at the mercy of local hicks, including gun toting Deputy Sheriff Reed Morgan (Max “Jethro” Baer). As night falls the tone turns ominous, danger lurks in coincidence, and the story generates real suspense with the last twenty minutes unbearably intense. A big hit in 1974, MACON COUNTY LINE is a ‘70s backwoods gothic worthy of rediscovery.
