Josh Holloway Joins Cruise/Renner MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 4 Cast

“Lost” star Josh Holloway is joining the cast of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 4 according to THR.

In his first major screen role since wrapping the ABC show, Holloway is in final negotiations to act as a member of the Impossible Mission Force, the secret agent task force headed by Tom Cruise. Story details are being kept in a self-destructable vault thus no information on Holloway’s character was available.

J.J. Abrams, who is producing with Cruise and Paula Wagner, worked on the story with scribes Andre Nemec and Josh Appelbaum, who have written the screenplay. IMPOSSIBLE will be the first studio picture for Holloway, who spent six seasons as heartthrob anti-hero Sawyer on “Lost,” which was exec produced by Abrams.

Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames will return to the Paramount Pictures’ franchise as well as newcomers Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton and Vladimir Mashkov. The Brad Bird film will begin shooting this fall in Vancouver, Prague and the recently announced Dubai.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER New Set Photos

Yahoo! Movies has these latest set photos from next summer’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER.

Photographers in London caught the first shots of Chris Evans filming CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER. Evans has longer and much lighter blond hair than he usually sports, and he’s bulked up considerably to play the superhero. Also unusual are the fake feet he’s wearing so it looks like he’s barefoot without risking injury. Below are more shots of the star at work, plus a sneak peek at Captain America’s costume.

Here Evans is running down a London street — this is where fake feet come in handy. The movie takes place during World War II, which is why he’s flanked by classic cars from the ’40s

Cap is being chased by masked goons from HYDRA, the villainous organization commanded by the Red Skull, played in the movie by Hugo Weaving. The HYDRA logo can be seen on the side of their high-tech bikes.

This is the first actual photo of Captain America’s costume, but it’s a stunt double wearing it, not Evans. The suit is less streamlined and more utilitarian than how Cap is usually depicted in the comics, but he does have his classic shield slung over his back. He rides an American military motorcycle from the WWII era.

Evans is joined in this shot by British actress Hayley Atwell, who plays Captain America’s wartime love interest Peggy Carter.

Renner & Cruise to Co-Star in MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 4

It was announced on Thursday that Paramount has closed a deal for Jeremy Renner (THE HURT LOCKER) to star opposite Tom Cruise in the untitled pic, which director Brad Bird begins lensing this fall. Renner will play as big a role as Cruise. According to Variety, the next film in the series won’t be called Mission: Impossible IV. It’s possible that the title won’t even include the familiar moniker (much as Christopher Nolan’s Batman sequel was simply titled “The Dark Knight”).

The film will be in theaters on December. 16, 2011.

Here’s the story as was first reported by DHD:

Paramount Pictures has chosen Jeremy Renner to infuse new blood in its MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE franchise. Renner, the Oscar-nominated star of THE HURT LOCKER, will star alongside Tom Cruise in the fourth installment of a franchise that will begin production in the fall. Brad Bird is directing and Cruise is producing with JJ Abrams.

The studio has struggled to find the right co-star to play an operative opposite Cruise, and one factor was to selecting an actor who could potentially carry the series, should Cruise’s Ethan Hunt character not continue to be the emphasis. While Cruise is expected to return for a fifth installment, production chief Adam Goodman wanted a guy who could grow into a leading man in his own right. Actors like Tom Hardy and Star Trek’s Chris Pine were considered, but were booked. The studio planned to test a group of young actors later this week, and Deadline spent all day going back and forth with the studio over candidates Kevin Zegers, Christopher Egan and Anthony Mackie, the latter of whom starred with Renner in The Hurt Locker. Deadline eventually posted a story about those actors, but it was clear that Paramount wasn’t sure what it was going to do. Those tests have been canceled. Goodman, sources said, felt Renner “has a Daniel Craig quality” that the studio chief liked.

It is the second major role for Renner coming out of his turn as the bomb dismantler in the Oscar-winning THE HURT LOCKER. The 41-year old Renner also will star in Marvel Studios’ The AVENGERS, playing the role of Hawkeye in that star-studded superhero ensemble that will be directed by Joss Whedon. Paramount is expected to release that film under its distribution deal with Marvel Studios, made before the company was acquired by Disney. Renner will next be seen in the Ben Affleck-directed THE TOWN, the GK Films-produced drama that Warner Bros. opens September 17.

127 HOURS Trailer

The first trailer for Fox Searchlight’s 127 HOURS has made it’s debut.

The beautiful cinematography is from Enrique Chediak (CHARLIE ST. CLOUD) and Anthony Dod Mantle (SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE.) How does an actor carry this type of film by himself? Anne Thompson of indieWIRE/Thompson on Hollywood wrote:

Heroic survivor tales are not new. But this one—much like the Tom Hanks vehicle Castaway—requires an actor to hold the screen alone for much of his screen time. In this case, Danny Boyle told me, only a few actors could pull this off. James Franco beat out Cillian Murphy and Ryan Gosling.

Synopsis:

127 HOURS is the new film from Danny Boyle, the Academy Award winning director of last year’s Best Picture, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE. 127 HOURS is the true story of mountain climber Aron Ralston’s (James Franco) remarkable adventure to save himself after a fallen boulder crashes on his arm and traps him in an isolated canyon in Utah. Over the next five days Ralston examines his life and survives the elements to finally discover he has the courage and the wherewithal to extricate himself by any means necessary, scale a 65 foot wall and hike over eight miles before he is finally rescued. Throughout his journey, Ralston recalls friends, lovers (Clemence Poesy), family, and the two hikers (Amber Tamblyn and Kate Mara) he met before his accident. Will they be the last two people he ever had the chance to meet? A visceral thrilling story that will take an audience on a never before experienced journey and prove what we can do when we choose life.

Rated ‘R’, 127 HOURS premieres next month in Toronto and will be in theaters on November 5, 2010.
