Shia LaBeouf and Michael Cera being looked at for ‘The Social Network’

socialnetworkcasting

Apparently when we brought you news yesterday from ‘The Social Network’, we didn’t think more would come out today, but CNET is reporting the two actors being looked at to play the Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg are both Shia LaBeouf and Michael Cera. Cera apparently has the lead on this one due to his “likability”? This from CNET:

An entertainment industry source tells CNET News that early casting searches are under way and that the list of young actors being eyeballed to play Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg includes both Michael Cera (“Superbad,” “Arrested Development”) and Shia LaBeouf (“Transformers”). They aren’t the only ones, and it’s not clear whether either of those two in-demand actors would want to take a turn away from comedies (Cera) or action movies (LaBeouf) to play Zuckerberg.

Cera is, according to the source, a top choice because audiences find him particularly likable. Rumors about the plot of the book “Accidental Billionaires” hint that Zuckerberg is going to be portrayed rather unfavorably–basically, as an obnoxious nerd–and obnoxious nerds are not the world’s biggest box-office sell. Cera could make the part a little bit more sympathetic.

The big question here is why isn’t Shia LaBeouf particularly likable? Well I think that Shia is the most similar looking to Mark Zuckerberg, but what do I know? Who do you guys think should play this lead role?

Transformers has made $55 million opening day

moneymichaelbay

‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’ brought in $16 million on Tuesday Night/Wednesday Morning midnight shows and did $44.2 million last night for a current combine total of $71 million in 2 days $55 Million. The midnight shows were 2nd only to ‘The Dark Knight,’ and, if Wednesday number are correct, it will be the biggest Wednesday opening ever.

We get this from THR about the Midnight Screenings:

“Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” stormed about 3,000 locations Tuesday night, and the first midnight screenings of Michael Bay’s action sequel captured a mighty $16 million.

It puts the Paramount release in impressive company: While “The Dark Knight” holds the record for midnight grossers, having picked up $18.5 million in 2008, the “Transformers” number approaches that of Fox’s “Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith,” which grossed $16.9 million in 2005. “Transformers” can boast the biggest midnight gross for a movie opening on a Wednesday.

…and we get this about the Wednesday opening from The Examiner:

When the official full day of runs started on over 4,200 screens yesterday for the famed franchise, it pulled in an overall gross of $55 million for best Wednesday premiere ever ahead of the aforementioned “Order of the Phoenix”, which had a total of $44.2 million on its Wednesday business.

All of this money for a movie that none of us feel only 1 of our geeks feel is worth it at all.   I guess when it comes to Michael Bay the old “LOUD NOISES” approach works better than negative critic reviews.

New photos of Ricky Gervais from ‘Cemetary Junction’

cemetaryjunctionheader

Ricky Gervais updated his blog with new photos from ‘Cemetery Junction’ which he wrote alongside his writing partner Stephen Merchant. Gervais and Merchant are also directing and landed Matthew Goode to costar. Gervais and Merchant previously created ‘The Office’ and ‘Extras’, so this shouldn’t be a major undertaking for them. We get this from Empire about the film which was previously titled ‘The Man from the Pru’:

“Well yes, it was once going to be a TV show and maybe still is, but we’re trying to do it the M*A*S*H* way round. We thought that when you do a TV show and then do a film, generally it’s awful. One, it taints the film with a TV brush. It breaks its credibility a little bit. I don’t want to do a film that’s just an extended TV episode. So we want to give the film its best shot and treat it with the reverence a film deserves.”

“There are so many films made that don’t deserve to be shot on film. You know, there’s not filmic or cinematic at all — they’re just two hours of a TV show with people off TV running around being funny. So we were like, “We want to give this a best chance, so let’s do it the M*A*S*H* way round.”We’ll put all our eggs into the film, and then we’ll do a TV spin-off, which we’ll treat differently. “

David Fincher in Talks to Direct Facebook Movie called ‘The Social Network’

davidfincherfacebook

Seriously? Apparently David Fincher is in “advanced talks” to direct a Facebook movie, which is an adaptation of the ‘The Accidental Billionaires’, a book about the creators of Facebook. The book was written by the same guy(Ben Mezrich) who wrote ‘Bringing Down the House’ which was eventually adapted into the movie ’21’.

Is David Fincher seriously going to follow up Oscar nominated ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ with a biopic of the guys who created Facebook? Please say it ain’t so!

This from Variety about Fincher in talks:

Columbia Pictures is in advanced talks with David Fincher to direct “The Social Network,” the Aaron Sorkin-scripted film for Columbia Pictures about the formation of Facebook. The film will focus on the evolution of Facebook from its 2004 creation on the Harvard campus by sophomore Mark Zuckerberg to a juggernaut with more than 200 million members.

Scott Rudin and Michael De Luca are producing with Trigger Street’s Kevin Spacey and Dana Brunetti.

The really great thing is the book name ‘The Accidental Billionaires: The founding of Facebook, a tale of sex, money, genius and betrayal’. How the hell does Sex enter into the equation of starting Facebook? Were girls running up to them and saying “Oh, Ill have sex with you if you let me rearrange my profile page”? I seriously doubt there was alot of sex involved when these guys were furiously coding this biggest social network we have right now.

Thanks to /Film they have brought out the info about this being a book Adaptation.

Guest Blog: Rick talks ‘Transformers’

ricktalkstransformers

Please Note: We Are Movie Geeks associates themselves with Rick as little as possible. Outside of the fact that everyone knows him, most of us don’t agree with anything he says. He is only able to still post things here due to contractual obligations that will be ending soon, we hope. Please take everything here with a grain of salt, as its meant to be funny and his knowledge of movies is that of a toddler(if toddlers were into porno).

First let me say that the first ‘Transformers’ movie got me all hot and bothered from watching Megan Fox fix cars, talk dirty mechanic talk, and wear those skimpy little shirt. It was like the beginning of a “handy” but never finishing it. I thought that finally I was going to get the “big reward” with this new movie… I didn’t. Asshole.

I think a more appropriate title for this movie is “Trans -I want to form her” because Megan Fox is the only reason to see either of these movies. Honestly, I would have given ‘Revenge of the Fallen’ a 5 out of 5 if they split the screen in half and one side was on Megan Fox in this outfit the entire movie:

meganfoxmotorcyclerevengefallen

Unfortunately for myself and everyone else in the audience Michael Bay didnt do this, he decided to just blow shit up(surprise) instead of having more provocative, scantly dressed scenes that feature Ms Fox. This leads me to believe he has no interest in women, and instead would like to marry a pyrotechnic instead, maybe Danny McBride’s character from ‘Tropic Thunder’, sideburns and all.

Shia Labeouf turned in his best “don’t call me Lewis, because I am an adult now” impression but just fails at it miserably because I still him as a 10 year old yelling at Christy Carlson Romano. Actually here is an idea Michael Bay, for ‘Transformers 3’ lets ditch Shia and lets have a Megan Fox/Christy Romano driven film… Hell, you can even leave out the Transformers too!

meganfoxchristyromano

I am drooling all over my keyboard at the thought of such a pairing. I am going to go ahead and predict now that a movie starring both of these ladies would open at probably around 295 million, but that just a rough estimate.

Michael Bay also apparently has studios so far up his ass that this movie could have been 7.5 hours long and still would have been put out as is. In the course of ‘Revenge of the Fallen’ I ate a late lunch and dinner, plus had a few late night cocktails before the film was done, the only thing that would have made it better is watching it with Megan Fox next to me..maybe playing with my earlobe and then taking me out for ice cream afterwords.

Seriously though, how the hell do you get away with having 6 minutes of story and 2 hours 24 minutes of non stop, over the top(sounds good right? its not), we recycled sequences from my last five films, action that gets utterly ridiculous and tosses stuff in that obviously doesn’t belong. Through most of the entire damn film you cant tell where one Autobot starts, and the endless supply of Decepticons ends.

Also, how much did James Cameron charge them to plan out the ship sinking scene that mimics the Titanic to a t, except the fact that there was no Kate Winslet at the bottom?

To make things worse there is this:

michaelbaybank

Yes Mr Bay, we all know you are going to make an ass ton of money off this one. Even our negative reviews wont sway people from seeing this movie because the promise of loud noises, and possibly half naked Megan Fox. People will see ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’ for the same reason that people still make it out to see movies like ‘Dance Flick’, ‘Disaster Movie’, and all of the other ridiculous movies that call themselves movies in their title.

Do yourself a favor boys and girls, go out and see Duncan Jones’ ‘Moon’ if its playing near you instead. Dont ask questions, just do it (Nike didnt sponser that).
