JSW_31_5_Promo_4C_6F-(1)

The Park Is Open June 12 and WAMG has your passes to the advance screening of JURASSIC WORLD!

Can you imagine what a dinosaur looks like, moves like or sounds like without thinking of Jurassic Park?

It isn’t just a movie. It’s a memory shared by all of us.

It defined the colossal summer blockbuster, a moviegoing event of a lifetime that provided us some of the most lasting, iconic sights and sounds of cinema.

It gave you the feeling that the first day of summer had arrived.

It pioneered advancements in visual effects that made you believe dinosaurs roamed the Earth again.

Mixing plausible science with breathtaking imagination, it told a cautionary tale about what could result from messing with the natural order.

It left your eyes wide, your jaw open and your heart racing.

Jurassic Park answered the question of how much story, how much fun and how much spectacle could fit into one perfect summer motion picture.

Now, the story of STEVEN SPIELBERG’s original comes full circle as the park that was only a promise comes to life.

Welcome to JURASSIC WORLD.

THE 100-YEAR OLD MAN WHO CLIMBED OUT THE WINDOW AND DISAPPEARED – The Review

100-year-old-man-who-climbed-out-a-window-and-disappeared2

Review by Stephen Jones

THE 100-YEAR-OLD MAN WHO CLIMBED OUT THE WINDOW AND DISAPPEARED is the sort of movie that’s difficult to write about. It leaves so little impression that there’s just not much to say. It’s a thoroughly middle of the road movie, with any outright flaws offset by the technical competence of the production. That it is now one of, if not the highest grossing films in its native country is a little perplexing, as it reminds me of one of those movies that someone mentions ten years later and you respond with “ohhhh yeah, I kinda remember that!” Like “Second-Hand Lions.”

“Second-Hand Lions” is actually the movie this reminded me of the most, with the elderly misadventures and things actually happening in the present-day plot. They were obviously going for a “Forrest Gump” feel, and there are definite traces of that as well, but fell far short. Even “Second-Hand Lions” had likable main characters. “The 100 Year Old Man…” lacks a single character to really get invested in. Just hijinks and really bad narration.

That narration alone keeps the movie from being really good. At first I wondered if it was some “Blade Runner” like situation where it was tacked on for international markets, but it seems like it was there from the start. Admittedly, the movie’s one charming moment came from the narration, but not until the very end.

So what’s the movie about? Well, there are the flashback scenes that give it the Gump/Lions vibe, telling us the backstory of our titular centenarian Allan Karlsson (played in youth by Robert Gustafsson, in old age by Robert Gustafsson in bad makeup) and his adventures through significant historical events. Then there’s the present day story, given by the title. He jumps out of the window in his nursing home and runs off. Then he winds up in possession of a gang member’s luggage full of money, then you paint red in the spaces marked number 1, blue in spaces marked number 2, and so on. Even if you can’t think of any specific movies, doesn’t that “winds up with someone’s briefcase full of money” plot sound sigh-inducingly familiar?

Maybe the movie’s sense of humor will be more your speed, though. If the thought of a guy slipping in elephant poop and subsequently getting sat on by said elephant sounds like something you’d laugh at, then maybe this movie is for you. But mostly I just found the movie boring. Not BAD, but definitely not particularly good. Just very, very mediocre.

2 1/2 of 5 Stars

New Trailer And Poster Are Here For Jason Banker’s Feminist Thriller FELT

IMG_9455

In his Fantastic Fest review, WAMG’s Michael Haffner called FELT “impressive” and “compelling.”

A young artist loses herself in an unpredictable alter ego while attempting to cope with past trauma in this gripping sophomore effort from Jason Banker (TOAD ROAD).

FELT celebrated its world premiere at Fantastic Fest 2014 where Amy Everson took home the “Next Wave” Spotlight Competition award for Best Actress.

Here’s a first look at the poster and trailer for the film.

Watch the red-band trailer HERE.

Amy is hanging on by a thread. Struggling to cope with past sexual trauma and the daily aggressions of a male-dominated society, she creates grotesquely-costumed alter egos that reappropriate the male form.

While giving her the sense of power she craves, acting as these characters pushes her further into a world of her own making. When she begins a new relationship with a seemingly good guy, she opens herself up to him – but that vulnerability comes at a dangerous cost, and her alter egos threaten to lash out in explosive violence.

07-FELT

Based on the real experiences and art of co-writer/star Amy Everson, FELT doesn’t just point a finger at rape culture; it takes a full on swing at it, creating a feminist psychological thriller that audiences will be hard-pressed to shake off.

Banker said, “I wanted FELT to achieve something new in storytelling and create a dialogue around societal attitudes towards gender and sexuality.”

From Amplify Releasing, FELT opens in theaters on June 26th and on VOD on July 21st.
