New Poster And TV Spot For CREED Feature Michael B. Jordan And Sylvester Stallone

creed one-sht

Fans of the Rocky films, get ready.

Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first poster and TV spot, starring Sylvester Stallone and Michael B. Jordan, for the highly-anticipated movie, CREED.

Adonis Johnson (Jordan) never knew his famous father, world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, who died before he was born. Still, there’s no denying that boxing is in his blood, so Adonis heads to Philadelphia, the site of Apollo Creed’s legendary match with a tough upstart named Rocky Balboa.

Once in the City of Brotherly Love, Adonis tracks Rocky (Stallone) down and asks him to be his trainer. Despite his insistence that he is out of the fight game for good, Rocky sees in Adonis the strength and determination he had known in Apollo—the fierce rival who became his closest friend. Agreeing to take him on, Rocky trains the young fighter, even as the former champ is battling an opponent more deadly than any he faced in the ring.

With Rocky in his corner, it isn’t long before Adonis gets his own shot at the title…but can he develop not only the drive but also the heart of a true fighter, in time to get into the ring?

CREED also stars Tessa Thompson (“Selma,” “Dear White People”) as Bianca, a local singer-songwriter who becomes involved with Adonis; Phylicia Rashad (Lifetime’s “Steel Magnolias”) as Mary Anne Creed, Apollo’s widow; and English pro boxer and former three-time ABA Heavyweight Champion Anthony Bellew as boxing champ “Pretty” Ricky Conlan.

Ryan Coogler directs from a screenplay he wrote with Aaron Covington, based on characters from the “Rocky” series written by Sylvester Stallone.

Joining Coogler behind the scenes are director of photography Maryse Alberti (“The Wrestler”) and costume designers Emma Potter (“Song One”) and Antoinette Messam (“Orphan”), as well as his “Fruitvale Station” team: editors Michael P. Shawver and Claudia Castello; production designer Hannah Beachler; and composer Ludwig Göransson.

CREED opens in theaters on November 25.

Check Out The Thrilling New Trailer For Ron Howard’s IN THE HEART OF THE SEA

HOTS-20131003BO4V0392.dng

Hitting cinemas on December 11th, watch the intense new trailer for director Ron Howard’s IN THE HEART OF THE SEA.

With a Screenplay by Charles Leavitt and story by Charles Leavitt and Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, JURASSIC WORLD), the film is based on the book In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex by Nathaniel Philbrick.

In the winter of 1820, the New England whaling ship Essex was assaulted by something no one could believe: a whale of mammoth size and will, and an almost human sense of vengeance. The real-life maritime disaster would inspire Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick. But that told only half the story. IN THE HEART OF THE SEA reveals the encounter’s harrowing aftermath, as the ship’s surviving crew is pushed to their limits and forced to do the unthinkable to stay alive.

Braving storms, starvation, panic and despair, the men will call into question their deepest beliefs, from the value of their lives to the morality of their trade, as their captain searches for direction on the open sea and his first mate still seeks to bring the great whale down.

This film has been rated PG-13 for intense sequences of action and peril, brief startling violence, and thematic material.

Ben Foster Stars As Lance Armstrong In Stephen Frears’ THE PROGRAM Trailer

7C6A1050.CR2

A new trailer for THE PROGRAM has arrived.

From Academy Award nominated director Stephen Frears (The Queen, Philomena) and producers Working Title Films (The Theory Of Everything, Everest, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), comes the true story of the meteoric rise and fall of one of the most celebrated and controversial men in recent history; Lance Armstrong, the world-renowned Tour de France champion.

The film will screen at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 13.

The world needs heroes and Lance Armstrong was the ultimate sporting hero. Following a gruelling battle with cancer, Lance returned to his cycling career in 1999 more determined than ever and with his sights set firmly on winning the Tour de France. With the help of the infamous Italian physician Michele Ferrari and team director Johan Bruyneel, he developed the most sophisticated doping program in the history of the sport. This program allowed Lance and his American teammates to dominate the world of cycling, winning the Tour an unprecedented seven times.

However not everyone believed the fairytale…Sunday Times journalist, David Walsh, at first charmed by Lance’s charisma and talent, soon began to question whether the ‘world’s greatest athlete’ was ‘clean’. Walsh sought to unveil the truth, his ensuing battle with Armstrong risked his own career, ostracised him from the cycling community and cost his paper, The Sunday Times, hundreds of thousands in legal costs. But the indefatigable Walsh eventually uncovered the truth when a select few prepared to talk came forward, exposing one of the greatest deceptions of our time.

Inspired by the award winning book ‘Seven Deadly Sins’ by David Walsh, and featuring a stellar cast including Ben Foster (Lone Survivor), Chris O’Dowd (Calvary), Guillaume Canet (Tell No One) and Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad), THE PROGRAM is a tense and suspenseful thriller.

How fun does this look – big stars, holiday theme. Count me in!

Yahoo Movies interviewed director Jessie Nelson about the film.

Highlights include Nelson’s comments on:

How Love the Coopers might remind you of other festive movies with big ensembles: We’re in the spirit of Love Actually or The Family Stone…We’ve got a lot of comedy but we also have a lot of warmth and heart – that embraces the painful insanity of the holidays.

John Goodman playing the role of the family patriarch after 20 years: He was really excited to get a role like this…He had that dream dad vibe and Diana had always wanted to work him.

The scene that impressed Nelson the most – when the family goes Christmas caroling: I had no idea of the level of musicianship from some of my actors. Alan Arkin is an amazing ukulele player. John Goodman plays the harmonica beautifully. Ed Helms can play the guitar so well. Diane sings beautifully, and June Squibb has a beautiful voice. It was amazing what they did with that scene.

Watch Chef Bradley Cooper In First BURNT Trailer

Burnt
© 2015 THE WEINSTEIN COMPANY. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED

Bradley Cooper cooks up a storm as a troubled chef in this first trailer for BURNT.

Chef Adam Jones (Bradley Cooper) had it all – and lost it. A two-star Michelin rockstar with the bad habits to match, the former enfant terrible of the Paris restaurant scene did everything different every time out, and only ever cared about the thrill of creating explosions of taste. To land his own kitchen and that third elusive Michelin star though, he’ll need the best of the best on his side, including the beautiful Helene (Sienna Miller). BURNT is a remarkably funny and emotional story about the love of food, the love between two people, and the power of second chances.

The movie also features Omar Sy, Daniel Brühl, Matthew Rhys, Uma Thurman and Emma Thompson.

Directed by John Wells (AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY), BURNT hits theaters everywhere on October 23, 2015.

STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON – The Review

Straight Outta Compton

Simply put, STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON, director F. Gary Gray’s biopic of the rap group N.W.A., is nothing you thought it would be and everything you hoped it would be. And it’s been in the making for 27 years.

Based on the true story and rise to fame of members Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, DJ Yella and MC Ren, STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON (taken from the name of the first and only album released by the 5 original members) is both a biopic and a coming of age story that keeps you riveted in your seat for two and half hours.

In 1987, Compton, CA was a hotbed of gangs, drugs, and a brutally corrupt LAPD. With no real voice to express their frustration and anger, drug dealer Eazy-E and local DJ Andre Young, (aka Dr. Dre) decided to start a group with neighborhood friends Ice Cube, DJ Yella, and MC Ren. What followed was a journey none of them could have predicted.

Having grown up in South Central LA, director F. Gary Gray (Friday, The Italian Job, The Negotiator) nails the whole look of the film perfectly. From the streets of Compton, to the recording studios and the sold out arenas, the film has an authenticity of that time period that is remarkable. One scene in particular, where the group is performing at local roller-skating rink immediately transports you to 1987 and characters everyone knew at some point or another in the late 80’s.

And speaking of characters, the casting is also somewhat of a stroke of genius. The three leads, O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Ice Cube), Corey Hawkins (Dr. Dre) and Jason Mitchell (Eazy-E) don’t just portray these characters, they become them. You can see the camaraderie and authenticity every time they are on screen together, which is what director Gray was most insistent on getting right, having the young actors spend a huge amount of time getting to know each other and bond before a single camera rolled.

Although mostly unknown, (O’Shea Jackson Jr. is the real-life son of Ice Cube, playing his famous father) the young cast definitely did their research. And this is where the heart of the movie comes from, and it is most evident in the performance scenes (the most impressive of the film) where it absolutely just explodes. It is crystal clear in the concert scenes that these were not crowds of extras sent over by Central Casting. These were true fans that knew they were about to experience something special (not to mention a performance by the real Dr. Dre and Ice Cube at the end of filming those scenes). They brought audience participation to a whole other level. Giving the film a bit of real Hollywood “street cred” is multi-award winning actor Paul Giamatti as group manager and svengali Jerry Heller. Heller is pretty much the catalyst for everything good and bad that happens to the group, including their meteoric rise and ultimate breakup over money and egos, and Giamatti plays it with such finesse that it doesn’t come off as the cartoonish white guy. Also frighteningly present is infamous gangster and rap mogul Suge Knight (played so well by R. Marcus Taylor, you think it’s a good thing the real Knight is behind bars). Without spoiling anything, his scenes are wonderfully ironic.

What really comes across as the most moving though, is the real, honest friendship between the members of N.W.A. Obviously, some have become more successful than others (Beats by Dre, anyone?) and Ice Cube became a huge movie star along the way, but the journey is theirs and theirs alone to tell. The love, the pain, the fights, the dis tracks and the triumph – it’s all on full display and fans will lap it up. And not just fans of N.W.A. This film is for fans of hip-hop, rap music, and all of these larger than life characters that all came straight outta Compton.

5 out of 5 stars
