Ready_Player_One_cover

The game is on in 2017. Warner Bros. Pictures, Village Roadshow Pictures and DreamWorks Pictures’ READY PLAYER ONE – the already much-anticipated sci-fi action adventure, to be directed by Steven Spielberg – has been slated for release on December 15, 2017.

The announcement was made today by Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution; Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and Distribution; and Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, President, Worldwide Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

A three-time Academy Award winner, Spielberg (“Schindler’s List,” “Saving Private Ryan”) is directing READY PLAYER ONE, based on Ernest Cline’s bestseller of the same name, which has become a worldwide phenomenon.

The film is being produced by Spielberg; Donald De Line, under his De Line Pictures banner; Dan Farah; and Spielberg’s longtime colleague Kristie Macosko Krieger; with Bruce Berman serving as executive producer. De Line and Farah originally brought the project to Warner Bros.

READY PLAYER ONE marks a return to Warner Bros. for Spielberg, who previously directed the studio’s “Empire of the Sun,” “The Color Purple” and “A.I. Artificial Intelligence,” in addition to producing the hits “Gremlins” and “The Goonies.”

We know it couldn’t be in better hands, and look forward to working with Steven and the producers to bring it to the big screen.”

Kwan Vandenberg said, “There are few directors with the global stature of Steven Spielberg, so we are thrilled to be delivering his latest adventure to audiences worldwide.”

HOOK screens midnights this weekend (June 19th and 20th) at The Tivoli Theater as part of their ‘Reel Late at The Tivoli’ Midnight Series. There will also be a 10am screening Saturday the 20th.

Hook-lost-boys

HOOK is a spin-off of the classic tale of Peter Pan. Do you ever wonder what life would have been like for Peter Pan if he had grown up? If he had kids, a wife, and a career as a lawyer? It happens here in Steven Spielberg’s 1991 tale of the boy who never wanted to grow up. Did you know that Michael Jackson originally wanted to play the role of Peter? Pretty creepy, huh? But fortunately Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman were cast and they are great together. Peter is a grown-up who just can’t seem to have fun in life; he misses his son’s baseball games, doesn’t spend much time with the family, and is always focused on work. But when he and his wife visit England with their kids to see Wendy, the lady who raised Peter when he was an orphan, his kids are kidnapped by Captain James Hook who wants to challenge Peter, but when Tinkerbell (Julia Roberts – actually less sexy than the 1953 cartoon version) takes Peter back to Neverland, he needs convincing that he is Peter Pan and is given three days to do so to get back his children. The Lost Boys help Peter battle Captain Hook and get his kids back while learning the importance of youth.

JURASSIC WORLD Hollywood Premiere Video; Plus The Reviews Are In

premiere

By Michelle McCue and Melissa Thompson

On Tuesday evening (June 9), JURASSIC WORLD had it’s big Hollywood Premiere at Hollywood and Highland and TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX.

Hosted by Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment, Hollywood and Highland was transformed into the entrance of Jurassic Park.

Fans caught a glimpse of cast members Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D’Onofrio, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, Jake Johnson, BD Wong, Judy Greer, Brian Tee, Andy Buckley, James Dumont, Michael Papajohn; writer/director Colin Trevorrow; writers Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver and Derek Connolly; producers Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley.

Originally released in 1993, Spielberg’s JURASSIC PARK provided moviegoers with a film that connected with global audiences of all ages and has since become an indelible part of their cultural collective memory. Based on Michael Crichton’s blend of science fiction and boundless imagination, the film left audiences breathless and asking the question: “Could this actually happen?”

Jump ahead 22 years to JURASSIC WORLD, a fully operational luxury resort off the coast of Costa Rica where 20,000 guests explore the wonder of Earth’s most magnificent living prehistoric marvels – of every shape and size – and interact up close with them every day.

When the massive and mysterious Indominus rex stages an escape and disappears into the jungle, order turns to mayhem, guests turn into prey and no corner within the world’s greatest theme park is safe anymore.

The first reviews of director Colin Trevorrow’s sci-fi adventure are in and is this film ever fun!

As the world awaits the June 12th opening of the movie where dinosaurs escape into the open, the skies and the water, check out the early reviews.

“The second half of this movie is where Trevorrow cuts loose, and there are some big kicks to be had. There are all sorts of great gags and beats as the dinosaurs rip hell out of this park.” – Drew McWeeny (HitFix)

“Exposition and character-building chitchat are kept at a minimum as we gawk at raptors on the prowl, prehistoric sea monsters breaching out of their water pens to feed on a great white, and our old pal T. rex slugging it out with the new-and-improved I. rex.” – Chris Nashawaty (EW)

“The dinos themselves have rarely looked better than they do under the direction of VFX supervisor Tim Alexander, especially Indominous rex (arguably the movie’s most well-developed female character), and a new underwater beastie who’s like Shamu on steroids.” – Scott Foundas (Variety)

“Even more than its intensely likeable central performances and convincingly solid visual effects, it’s this supple self-reflexiveness that makes Colin Trevorrow’s film a worthy sequel to Spielberg’s industry-changing original.” – Robbie Collin (Telegraph)

Come back on Thursday for fellow geek, Tom Stockman’s, review.

You’re gonna need a bigger boat this June when “TCM Presents: Jaws 40th Anniversary” comes to select U.S. cinemas, presented by Fathom Events, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

Originally released in 1975 and celebrating its 40th anniversary, this action-packed event will screen at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on both Sunday, June 21 and Wednesday, June 24 for a second showing.

In addition to the feature, audiences will be treated to a special introduction by TCM host Ben Mankiewicz.

Tickets for the “TCM Presents: Jaws 40th Anniversary” can be purchased online by visiting www.FathomEvents.com, or at participating theater box offices. Fans throughout the U.S. will be able to enjoy the event in nearly 500 movie theaters through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network. jaws_xlg

It’s a hot summer on Amity Island-a small community whose main business is its beaches. When new Sheriff Martin Brody discovers the remains of a shark attack victim, his first inclination is to close the beaches to swimmers. This doesn’t sit well with Mayor Larry Vaughn and several of the local businessmen. Brody backs down and that weekend a young boy is killed by the predator. The dead boy’s mother puts out a bounty on the shark and Amity is soon swamped with amateur hunters and fisherman hoping to cash in on the reward.

A local fisherman with much experience hunting sharks, Quint, offers to hunt down the creature for a hefty fee. Soon Quint, Brody and Matt Hooper from the Oceanographic Institute are at sea hunting the Great White shark. As Brody succinctly surmises after their first encounter with the creature, they’re going to need a bigger boat.

Based on Peter Benchley’s 1974 novel, JAWS is from director Steven Spielberg.

One of the most influential motion pictures of all time and nominated for a Best Picture Academy Award, JAWS stars Oscar winner Richard Dreyfuss and Oscar nominees Roy Scheider and Robert Shaw. Produced by legendary filmmakers Richard D. Zanuck and David Brown, the film earned an Oscar for composer John Williams’ instantly recognizable minimalist score, as well as Oscars for Best Editing (Verna Fields) and Best Sound.

When it was first released in 1975, JAWS smashed box-office records and became the highest-grossing film of its era, earning Spielberg a reputation as a Hollywood visionary.

Today, it remains one of the highest-grossing films in motion-picture history and is largely considered the film that launched the summer blockbuster.
