WAMG Interview: THE WOMEN OF CHUCKY

Curse of Chucky Junket

3 weeks ago I had the pleasure of interviewing the creator of Chucky, Don Mancini, along with the entire cast of his new film CURSE OF CHUCKY. Having now seen the movie, I agree with the general consensus that it is one of the best “scary” Chucky films. I will always have a soft spot for CHILD’S PLAY 2 and to be honest, my overall favorite is still BRIDE OF CHUCKY. As a longtime fan of the franchise, it really was an honor getting to sit down and chat with all those involved. Since the interviews were split by gender, I decided that would be the best way to post them. Below is my interview with Danielle Bisutti and the true Seed of Chucky, Fiona Dourif. Check back tomorrow morning for my interview with the Men of Chucky (Don Mancini, Brad Dourif & Alex Vincent).

MANIAC COP 2 Midnights This Weekend at The Hi-Pointe

maniaccop2-560

“Shooting Cordell is only good for getting his attention!”

Director William Lustig’s MANIAC COP 2 (1990) picked up right where MANIAC COP (1988) left off and did a great job of continuing the chaos. Both films even had the same tag line: “You have the right to remain silent . . . Forever!” The sequel has badge-wearing wacko Matt Cordell (Robert Z’dar), the crazed, murderous “Maniac Cop” of the first film (now even more monstrously disfigured after a brutal stay in prison) teaming up with Turkel (Leo Rossi), a crazed degenerate serial killer on ‘a crusade against the whores of the world’, who likes to murder strippers. They’re up against frenzied, chain smoking NYPD detective Sean McKinney (movie veteran Robert Davi), who is just one step ahead of a nervous breakdown and feisty police psychologist Susan Riley (the gorgeous Claudia Christian). Sean McKinney’s nerves don’t get much relief when officers Jack Forrest (Bruce Campbell) and Teresa Mallory (Laurene Landon) insist that Cordell is still alive — not only alive, but an unstoppable killing machine! Maniac Cop breaks Turkel out of jail and, with a group of rancid prisoners, they take Susan hostage so McKinney must muster his forces to hunt down Cordell and Turkel.

MC2 is one of those sequels that’s actually superior to the original. This rather amazing little “B” movie features just about everything you could fit into an 84-minute running time: explosive action scenes, strippers, Bruce Campbell, a terrific cast (Danny Trejo, Charles Napier, and Clarence Williams III have small roles), great gouts of gore, non-stop violence , and a PYSCHO-inspired twist that offs not one, but two main characters in the first 30 minutes.

I saw MANIAC COP at the now-shuttered Sunset Hills Cinema when it was new, but MANIAC COP 2 never played theatrically in St. Louis. You’ll finally get your chance to see it on the big screen when it plays this Friday and Saturday night (November 1st and 2nd) at midnights at St. Louis’ fabulous Hi-pointe Theater s part of Destroy the Brain’s monthly Late Night Grindhouse Film Series. The pre-show begins at 11:30.

Watch The New Trailer For Martin Scorsese’s THE WOLF OF WALL Street Starring Leonardo DiCaprio

THE WOLF OF WALL STREET

Leonardo DiCaprio plays Jordan Belfort in the brand new trailer for THE WOLF OF WALL STREET. The film hits theaters December 25, 2013.

(via iTunes)

Revered filmmaker Martin Scorsese directs the story of New York stockbroker Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio). From the American dream to corporate greed, Belfort goes from penny stocks and righteousness to IPOs and a life of corruption in the late 80s. Excess success and affluence in his early twenties as founder of the brokerage firm Stratton Oakmont warranted Belfort the title – “The Wolf of Wall Street.”

Money. Power. Women. Drugs. Temptations were for the taking and the threat of authority was irrelevant. For Jordan and his wolf pack, modesty was quickly deemed overrated and more was never enough.

The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Margot Robbie, Matthew McConaughey, Jon Favreau, Kyle Chandler, Rob Reiner and Jean Dujardin.

Tim Allen Is Rex In First Trailer For ADVENTURES OF THE PENGUIN KING

PenguinKing_7

Rex, Patti, Junior, Larry and Moe & The Macaronis are the big, colorful characters in Cinedigm’s upcoming ADVENTURES OF THE PENGUIN KING. The groundbreaking film packed with excitement, love, tragedy and humor opens in theaters December 6.

The original British version, PENGUINS 3D, was narrated and co-produced by natural history broadcaster Sir David Attenborough.

Rex, a young King Penguin, has been away from his home for three years, learning to hunt in the wild oceans, but now he’s back – in Penguin City. His mission: to find a mate, settle down and raise a chick. But can he survive the numerous predators and the harsh conditions on an isolated island at the bottom of the world?

This is the journey of a typical bachelor King Penguin from awkward adolescent to accomplished adult. It’s a family tale, of love and adventure, tragedy and triumph – all told through the charismatic and charming natural actors, the penguins of South Georgia.

Stunning cinematography takes us into Penguin City, on an extraordinary sub-Antarctic island, home to majestic albatrosses, brawling elephant seals – and six million penguins.

Narrator Tim Allen (Disney Nature’s Chimpanzee, Pixar’s Toy Story) brings added warmth and humor to the tale, aided by a funny and dramatic script by Phillip LaZebnik (Pocahontas, Mulan, Prince of Egypt). Though our hero’s harsh world may be alien to our day-to-day lives, his struggle will be familiar to us all.

The TCM Classic Film Festival’s presentation of Why Worry will feature legendary silent-film composer Carl Davis conducting the world premiere performance of his new original score for the movie.
