WAMG Podcast Announcement/Contest!

WAMGpodcast

Hello movie geeks! For those of you who don’t know who I am, my name is Tim Buel and I just started writing here at WAMG a few weeks ago. Prior to writing here, I ran a little film blog called Fliktalk.com. In addition to being the editor in chief of the site, I also hosted the podcast. We closed our doors this past September due to scheduling conflicts and loss of some team members, but the passion was still alive in me to bring a fun, informative and entertaining podcast to my fellow film geeks. Enter WAMG. I was hired by Scott as a news writer, which has been awesome, but I recently offered to take the reigns and helm the site’s podcast.

So where are we now? I have been in pre-production on the show this passed week or so and have come up with some pretty fun ideas. I will be joined by Scott and Kirk as your regular hosts and we will be chatting about a variety of topics, many of which, we hope you will contribute to! We will also be joined by various guests from other film sites, and of course some celebrity guests from both behind and in front of the camera! You can also expect some awesome contests which will test your creativity as a film geek, and your overall film knowledge and opinion!

Speaking of contests, that leads my to my next bit. We are very excited about this new show and we want you, as the audience and our fellow geeks, to have some participation in its birth. So here’s our offer: Help us name the show! We want something snappy, sexy and of course, related to our common love of all things cinema. If you have an idea for the name of the show, send an email to wamgpodcast@gmail.com with “Show Title” in the subject line. What’s in it for you? If your show name is selected, you will receive a box of of swag. This includes DVDs, shirts and other movie related paraphernalia. Sound cool or what? So get on it!

Submissions for the contest will end on Monday December 7th at 11:59pm PST so you have a whole week to get some awesome names to us. The first ever show will be live on ustream.tv (where you can participate in the chat room and listen live) starting   Wednesday December 9th at 6:30pm PST/9:30pm EST. If the dates change, we will inform you!

We look forward to reading your submissions and bringing you a film podcast that you won’t soon forget!

SEE YOU GUYS SOON!

Trio of ‘Cabin in the Woods’ Posters

cabin in the woods header

Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon have some interesting pieces of advice for all of you fans of horror out there.   They’ve been kind enough to display these little fortune cookie fortunes on a set of three posters they have for their upcoming horror-comedy ‘The Cabin in the Woods.’

Enjoy and heed their words:

Now that’s some sage advice, right there.   I particularly appreciate the making fun of the old man who’s trying to warn you tidbit.   The official site is also online, and you can check it out right here.

‘The Cabin in the Woods’ comes out on February 5th, 2010.

Two New ‘Star Trek’ Character Posters

Paramount Pictures has released these two, new character posters to follow up the ones they’ve already released for Kirk and Spock. Â  This time we have one for Nero (Eric Bana) and Uhura (Zoe Saldana).

The idea of character posters is starting to get annoying. Â  Basically it seems like a cheap way to sell a whole bunch of posters. Â  Having said that, it’s always great to see new pics of Nero. Â  I have a feeling he’s gonna be up there with Khan as one of the great, ‘Star Trek’ villains.

Paramount has also launched the official site, where you can watch the trailer, view the photos, and download wallpapers of your favorite ‘Star Trek’ characters.

Hidden Message in ‘Angels and Demons’ Teaser Starts Viral Campaign

Last week, we told you about the teaser trailer for ‘Angels and Demons’, the sequel/prequel/spinoff of ‘The DaVinci Code’. Â  Apparently, there was a hidden message in the trailer, which you can see in the pic above.

Taking that message, and making it a URL gives you www.altarsofscience.com. Â  That site shows you a video image of a vial of antimatter.

There’s also a countdown at the bottom, right-hand side of the screen. Â  After throwing this series of numbers into our state-of-the-art, We Are Movie Geeks supercomputer, our best scientific minds decided it was counting down seconds, minutes, hours, and days. Â  The countdown will take us to May 15th, 2009, the date of ‘Angels and Demons’ release.

The vial of antimatter plays a very pivotal role in the story. Â  It’s used as a terrorist threat, and it is set to blow up the Vatican. Â  The story in ‘Angels and Demons’ is much better than the one in ‘The DaVinci Code’, and I’m looking forward to seeing what other viral marketing strategies Sony has ups its sleave.

Chun Li Has Eyes For You

Yeah, the writing is a little funny, but that’s because that is the official Japanese one-sheet for ‘Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li’.   The movie’s official site has also opened its doors.

The film is set for a February 27, 2009 release and stars Kristin Kreuk, Michael Clarke Duncan, Neal McDonough, Taboo, Chris Klein, Moon Bloodgood, Edmund Chen, Cheng Pei Pei, Josie Ho and Robin Shou.

Kreuk looks perfect for the part, and I’m sure that poster is just the first of many “character” posters that will be released.
