SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD Coming To Blu-ray October 23

An unexpectedly hilarious and touching comedy from Focus Features starring Steve Carell (“The Office”) and Keira Knightley (Atonement), Seeking a Friend for the End of the World explores the crazy and inspired things people will do when humanity’s last days are at hand. In a too-near future, apartment-building neighbors Dodge and Penny (Steve Carell and Keira Knightley), react in their own unique ways to the announcement that a 70-mile-wide asteroid is en route to Earth. He wants to return to his first love. She wants to get back to her family. As the unlikely companions’ respective journeys converge they meet up with a cast of characters, and their outlooks – if not the world’s – brighten in surprising ways. LAFF 2012: SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD Red Carpet

Focus Features and the Los Angeles Film Festival held the world premiere of SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD on Monday, June 18th, 2012 at the Regal Cinemas L.A. Live Stadium 14… and WAMG was on the red carpet.

Stars Steve Carell and Keira Knightley were in attendance, as well as writer/director Lorene Scafaria, and co-stars Connie Britton, Adam Brody, Rob Corddry, Gillian Jacobs, Derek Luke, Melanie Lynskey, T.J. Miller, Bob Stephenson, and Jim O’Heir; producers Steve Golin, Joy Gorman Wettels, Mark Roybal, and Jeannie McCarthy; executives James Schamus, Rick Finkelstein, Donna Langley, and Adam Fogelson.

From these opposite perspectives, both initially choose to navigate the impending end of the world with blinders on. Dodge declines joining his friends in increasingly reckless behavior, while Penny fixates on her relationship issues with a self-absorbed musician.

The two misfits meet first when Penny has a rough night and then again when she belatedly delivers Dodge a lost letter. That letter could alter Dodge’s future; it’s from his high-school sweetheart Olivia, the love of his life. When a riot breaks out around their apartment building, Dodge realizes that he must seek Olivia out before it’s too late while Penny makes the decision to spend her last days with family in England. Seizing the moment, Dodge promises to help Penny reach her family if she will provide transport for the two of them in her car immediately. She agrees, and they escape. On the road together, the unlikely traveling companions’ respective personal journeys accelerate, and their outlooks – if not the world’s – brighten.

Set in a too-near future, the movie explores what people will do when humanity’s last days are at hand. As the respective journeys of Dodge (Mr. Carell) and Penny (Ms. Knightley) converge, the two spark to each other and their outlooks – if not the world’s – brighten.

Lorene Scafaria, who wrote the original screenplay, is making her feature directorial debut with the film. She wrote the screenplay adaptation for the 2008 feature Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist, also for Mandate, which starred Michael Cera and Kat Dennings.

Focus Features holds U.S. distribution rights to SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD, which is being co-financed by Indian Paintbrush and Mandate Pictures. The movie is being produced by Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe Award winner Steve Golin and Joy Gorman of Anonymous Content; and by Indian Paintbrush’s Steven Rales and Mark Roybal. Mandate Pictures’ Nathan Kahane and Nicole Brown are executive producers; Mandate’s Kelli Konop and Indian Paintbrush’s Jeff Sommerville are co-producers. Lionsgate is handling international sales on the title.

The film will be in theatres nationwide June 22nd.
