“True Blood” Star Getting Bloodier for ‘Mother’s Day’

Some of you may not know the name Deborah Ann Woll, but that’s because you aren’t paying close attention to the cast list of your latest “True Blood” episode.  If you don’t watch “True Blood,” first off, shame on you.  Secondly, you’ll have a better chance at knowing who Deborah Ann is next year, because the actress has signed on star in the remake of Troma’s ‘Mother’s Day.’

The remake of the film, to be directed by ‘Saw II-IV’ and ‘Repo!’ director Darren Lynn Bousman, will tell a slightly different story than the original.  This time, instead of three girlfriends stumbling on the house of the maniacs, the maniacs are coming to civilization.  They return to the house where they grew up and begin terrorizing the family who lives there now.

Woll will be playing the part of a fourth family member, a daughter, in the expanded family.  Looks like Mother’s been a little busy since the original.  Woll is best known for playing Jessica Hamby, the young girl who the lead vampire, Bill, was forced to turn near the end of season one.

The plan is to release ‘Mother’s Day’ just in time for Mother’s Day 2010, and filming is scheduled to begin this coming Fall.

DVD Review: ‘Trueblood’ Season 1

You may know Anna Paquin from ‘X-Men’ and ’25th Hour’ but you probably dont know her as a Cajun waitress who can also read people’s thoughts. That’s exactly what you get from her in ‘Trueblood’ which is set in backwoods Louisiana town Bon Temps. The show is set during a time when Vampires have come out of their coffins since they no longer need to feed on humans thanks to a synthesized blood elixir called “True Blood”. In Bon Temps no one is actually as they seem and twists will happen at every turn(isnt that the point?).

Sookie(Paquin) gets her interests piqued when a strange man comes into the diner she waits at and she cannot read his mind. She soon realizes that Bill(Stephen Moyer) is 173 year old vampire and that excites her even more, she becomes drawn to him and eventually saves his life from two locals who steal Vampire blood.

The show is about 12 episodes and deals with the love story between Sookie and Bill, and the murders that keep happening of young women that Sookie’s brother Jason usually ends up having some connection to. Sookie decides to start using her power to solve these mysteries and see who the real guilty party is. Sookie eventually finds out who the killer is and with the help of her “knights in shinning armor” they attempt to kill him.

Everyone on the show does a great job in the acting department, even during the cheesy parts of the show. Anna Paquin is absolutely stunning as a bookwoods waitress and you really believe this could be her in real life. There is also the added bonus of the show having alot of blood, sex, and general horror elements that keep you coming back for more. For your Paquin fans out there, you do get to see her naked on the show so what are you waiting for? Get out there and pick up season 1 on DVD!

I watched these through the season on HBO and thought they dragged on a bit during the middle of the season but after watching them on DVD I found a new appreciation for the show. HBO really has their act together and keep putting out quality shows, so when my cable bill comes in every month I dont scratch my head and ask if i REALLY need HBO.

Has ‘Thor’ Been Chosen?

This is not official.   I cannot express that sentiment enough.   THIS IS NOT OFFICIAL NEWS.   This is speculation brought on by someone who just happened to see Kenneth Branagh and a young, blonde actor having lunch together.

Hey Mayimbe,

Long time reader, finally with something juicy.   I had a first hand eyeball witness of Kenneth Branagh eating dinner at Blairs today accompanied by a young Blonde actor who i recognized from HBO’s awesome miniseries Generation Kill that was on a year or so ago.   I had no idea what his name was but I got home today and Googled him, his name is Alexander Skarsgà ¥rd.   I have no idea if he actually is Thor or not, maybe he’s being considered, maybe he and Kenneth are just friends.   However, it seems likely he is being considered since he’s a young Blonde actor and seems to fit the description of the character. Two other men were with them but I didn’t recognize either of them. I know it’s speculative at best, even so I thought you’d wanna know.

Now, for those of you who don’t know Alexander Skarsgard, then you haven’t been watching HBO’s True Blood.

He’s 6’4″.   He’s the son of a great actor (Stellan Skarsgard).   He and Branagh are repped by the same agency.

If this ends up being an actual news story and Skarsgard is cast as Thor, I couldn’t be happier.   His Eric is by far the coolest character on True Blood, he’s a great actor, and the guy is friggin’ huge.   He would be the perfect choice to play Thor.

Once again, just take this as speculation for now.   When something official comes down the pipeline, we’ll be sure to dish that out for you, as well.
