An unexpectedly hilarious and touching comedy from Focus Features starring Steve Carell (“The Office”) and Keira Knightley (Atonement), Seeking a Friend for the End of the World explores the crazy and inspired things people will do when humanity’s last days are at hand. LAFF 2012: SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD Red Carpet

Focus Features and the Los Angeles Film Festival held the world premiere of SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD on Monday, June 18th, 2012 at the Regal Cinemas L.A. Live Stadium 14… and WAMG was on the red carpet.

Stars Steve Carell and Keira Knightley were in attendance, as well as writer/director Lorene Scafaria, and co-stars Connie Britton, Adam Brody, Rob Corddry, Gillian Jacobs, Derek Luke, Melanie Lynskey, T.J. That letter could alter Dodge’s future; it’s from his high-school sweetheart Olivia, the love of his life. When a riot breaks out around their apartment building, Dodge realizes that he must seek Olivia out before it’s too late while Penny makes the decision to spend her last days with family in England. Seizing the moment, Dodge promises to help Penny reach her family if she will provide transport for the two of them in her car immediately. She agrees, and they escape. The sky is falling in the new poster and trailer for the pre-apocalyptic comedy SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD starring Golden Globe Award winner Steve Carell and Academy Award nominee Keira Knightley.

Set in a too-near future, the movie explores what people will do when humanity’s last days are at hand. As the respective journeys of Dodge (Mr. Carell) and Penny (Ms. Knightley) converge, the two spark to each other and their outlooks – if not the world’s – brighten.

Lorene Scafaria, who wrote the original screenplay, is making her feature directorial debut with the film. She wrote the screenplay adaptation for the 2008 feature Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist, also for Mandate, which starred Michael Cera and Kat Dennings.

Focus Features holds U.S. distribution rights to SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD, which is being co-financed by Indian Paintbrush and Mandate Pictures. The movie is being produced by Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe Award winner Steve Golin and Joy Gorman of Anonymous Content; and by Indian Paintbrush’s Steven Rales and Mark Roybal. Mandate Pictures’ Nathan Kahane and Nicole Brown are executive producers; Mandate’s Kelli Konop and Indian Paintbrush’s Jeff Sommerville are co-producers. Lionsgate is handling international sales on the title.

The film will be in theatres nationwide June 22nd.

New GULLIVER’S TRAVELS Trailer

Here’s the 2nd trailer for 20th Century Fox’s big holiday film, GULLIVER’S TRAVELS.

Synopsis:

In a contemporary re–imagining of the classic tale, Jack Black stars as Gulliver, a big–talking mailroom clerk who, after he’s mistakenly assigned a travel piece on the Bermuda Triangle, suddenly finds himself a giant among men when he washes ashore on the hidden island of Lilliput, home to a population of very tiny people. At first enslaved by the diminutive and industrious Liliputians, and later declared their hero, Gulliver comes to learn that it’s how big you are on the inside that counts.

From director Rob Letterman (SHARK TALE, MONSTERS VS. ALIENS) and starring Jack Black, Emily Blunt, Amanda Peet, Jason Segel and Billy Connolly, the film will be in theaters in 3D on December 22, 2010.

Review: SHE’S OUT OF MY LEAGUE

Well, it is certainly nice to have a comedy come out that does not have the same cast as 90% of the ones out! SHE’S OUT OF MY LEAGUE is smart and funny without repeating the same jokes that we have heard for the past year, even though it does carry a bit of that Judd Apatow flair that they ripped off a bit.

Kirk (Not our Kirk, Jay Baruchel) works in the field of airport security with his best friends Stainer (T.J. Miller), Jack (Mike Vogel) and Devon (Nate Torrence). He is obsessed with his ex-girlfriend Marnie (Lindsay Sloane), who broke up with him two years prior, but still hangs out with his family, and her new boyfriend. His life is hell. Then one day, a beautiful girl named Molly (Alice Eve) accidentally leaves her phone and Kirk promises to return it to her. When he does, she asks him to a hockey game and he discovers that she likes him. Now he is in a position where he thinks that he is in no way good enough for her, and his friends do not help with that!

Stainer is probably my favorite character in this film. He plays in a Hall and Oates tribute band, and has a dialogue that reminds me of some weird combination of Seth Rogan’s bite and Napoleon Dynamite’s voice. Baruchel has been in a ton of films, including the teen variety, and he plays awkward rather well. He and the actors that play his friends are rather entertaining to watch. Torrence rounds out the friends nicely by playing a love obsessed, clean cut boy who constantly quotes Disney movies.

Eve is a beautiful, funny girl who will make every girl in the audience take a second look in the mirror. She is extremely likeable, with a good head on her shoulders. I really like how they gave her a great sense of humor, so that she makes smart ass comments back, rather than just sitting and looking pretty. Her best friend Patty (Krysten Ritter) is quite the spitfire as well. She and Stainer have a strictly hate/hate relationship.

Is the film predictable?… Yes. Is the film still entertaining?… Yes. Although the story of the underdog getting the girl has been done a million times, the humor in this movie makes it a little less repetitive. Also, it is pretty hard to believe that a girl as beautiful as Molly would be chasing after a guy like Kirk, or any guy for that matter. The film is entertaining, but don’t expect it to top THE HANGOVER in comedy.
