Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Justin Timberlake Join The STAND UP TO CANCER Telecast September 7

Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Justin Timberlake, Sofia Vergara, Eric Stonestreet, Ray Romano, Felicity Huffman, Max Greenfield, Stacy Keibler, Maura TierneyRocco DiSpirito, Ethan Zohn and Olympic Gold Medalists Gabrielle Douglas and Missy Franklin will participate in Stand Up To Cancer’s landmark event on Friday, Sept. 7 (8:00-9:00 PM ET & PT). They join celebrities from film, television, music and sports in a nationally televised broadcast which will fund groundbreaking translational research that delivers new therapies to cancer patients quickly and save lives.

Executive produced by Gwyneth Paltrow and Joel Gallen of Tenth Planet Productions, in collaboration with SU2C’s production team, the 2012 Stand Up To Cancer broadcast will feature previously announced stars Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Michael Douglas, Jessica Biel, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Seth Rogen, Emma Stone who will join Paltrow and SU2C Co-Founder Katie CouricTaylor Swift, Coldplay, Alicia Keys and Tim McGraw will deliver moving, one-of-a-kind performances alongside inspiring patient stories. Actors and personalities including Simon Baker, Jordana Brewster, Diem Brown, Dana Delany, Chelsea Handler, Marg Helgenberger, Minka Kelly, Joe Manganiello, Jillian Michaels, Masi Oka, Ana Maria Polo,and Alison Sweeney will also take part in the broadcast.

ABCCBSFOX and NBC will donate one hour of simultaneous commercial-free primetime for the nationally televised fundraising special on Friday, Sept. 7, to be broadcast live from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. BIO, E!, ENCORE, HBO, HBO Latino, ION Television, LMN (Lifetime Movie Network), Logo, MLB Network, mun2, Palladia, SHOWTIME, Smithsonian Channel, STARZ, STYLE, TBS and VH1 have also committed to carry the Stand Up To Cancer telecast. The program will include a celebrity phone/multi-media bank that will allow viewers to interact with participating talent. Viewers will also be able to donate via text-to-give and at standup2cancer.org. One hundred percent of all public donations will go directly to cancer research.

The first two SU2C telecasts took place on September 5, 2008 and September 10, 2010. To date, more than $180 million has been pledged for SU2C’s innovative cancer research. Since 2008, SU2C has made grants to seven multi-disciplinary “Dream Teams” of researchers as well as to 26 young innovative scientists who are undertaking high-risk, potentially high-reward projects to end the reign of cancer as a leading cause of death in the world today.  Eighty-five institutions are currently involved.

Lucasfilm Launches Initiative to Benefit Stand Up To Cancer

Campaign features celebrity fans celebrating their favorite Star Wars™ moments, an eBay charity auction offering one-of-a-kind items and a rare experience, an exclusive line of t-shirts as well as support from Major League Baseball

Lucasfilm announced today that in celebration of the September launch of Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray, it is linking up with celebrities, eBay and Major League Baseball to ask fans to Use the Force for Good to support Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C). SU2C funds groundbreaking cancer research that will get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives.

“Lucasfilm joining with eBay, Major League Baseball and a wonderful group of actors is an amazing force for good being brought to bear in Stand Up To Cancer’s fight against this disease,and we are profoundly grateful,” said SU2C Co-Founder Sue Schwartz. “With one in two men and one in three women diagnosed in their lifetimes, cancer affects us all.  SU2C’s mission is to persuade each and every person to support the scientists working to end cancer, and this initiative gives legions of Star Wars fans fun and easy ways to do that.”

The campaign will launch today with a video featuring celebrity Star Warsenthusiastsencouraging fans to Use the Force for Good and join Lucasfilm in donating to Stand Up To Cancer.  SU2C Ambassadors Aziz Ansari, Zach Galifianakis, Bill HaderEd Helms, Ken Jeong, Jaime King, Seth Rogen, Andy Sambergand, Emma Stone– along withStar Wars alum Samuel L.Jackson – will each Use the Force for Goodas they recreate classic Star Wars scenes to raise awareness for cancer research.  The all-star video tribute appears on the Star Wars YouTube channel youtube.com/starwars.

Also, eBay will use the Force of its 97 million active members to give fans an online destination for browsing unique and special Star Wars items: ebay.com/usetheforceforgood.  The destination will allow fans to bid on rare and exclusive items like a one-of-a-kind Star Warsedition 2012 Volkswagen Passat and a once-in-a-lifetime experience; dinner with prominent Bay Area filmmakers George Lucas, Chris Columbus, Francis Ford Coppola, Philip Kaufman and John Lasseter. All charity auctions will begin on September 16th at 4:00 p.m. PDT, and continue until 4:00p.m. PDT on September 23rd.

Star Wars and SU2C have also created a Stand Up To Cancer line of Star Wars t-shirts.  The tees will feature iconic Star Wars artwork alongside SU2C’s signature upward arrows, with slogans like “Blast Cancer” and “Use the Force for Good.”  The exclusive tees are available now and can be purchased through the end of the year at store.standup2cancer.org/shop with proceeds benefitting SU2C.

Production hasn’t even started yet and Sony is teaming up with The Stand Up to Cancer Organization to offer one lucky movie fanatic the opportunity of a lifetime, a walk on role in Spideman 4. The auction is currently running on EBay and will close on September 5TH at 7 P.M. PDT. The package reads as follows:
