SILENCE OF THE LAMBS Screens June 30th at Webster University ‘A Tribute to Jonathan Demme’

“I do wish we could chat longer, but… I’m having an old friend for dinner. Bye.”

SILENCE OF THE LAMBS screens Friday, June 30th at Webster University’s Moore Auditorium (470 East Lockwood). This is the seventh film in their ‘Tribute to Jonathan Demme’ The movie starts at 8:00pm.

Films don’t get much more creepy or thrilling as Jonathan Demme’s Oscar-sweeping SILENCE OF THE LAMBS from 1991. The young and feminine Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster), who is training to be an F.B.I. agent, must find the whereabouts of a serial killer named Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine). The only way possible is interviewing a captured serial killer named Dr. Hannibal “The Cannibal” Lecter (Anthony Hopkins).

There are so many elements that make SILENCE OF THE LAMBS chillingly scary. Buffalo Bill chooses young female victims and skins them. He kidnaps the daughter of a senator which quickly prompts an FBI hunt. Agent Clarice visits Dr. Lecter who is held in a maximum security prison to ask him questions about Buffalo Bill’s psychological profile because he was Dr. Lecter’s patient many years ago….when Dr. Lecter was a normal human being (if you can call it that).

I have always found the idea of a psychologist going insane and becoming a human eating monster very scary. I mean he is supposed to be the expert about human behavior to cure psychological disturbances and he is the most disturbed of all. However, he is equally brilliant. Dr. Lecter’s brilliant mind brings depth to his character. Clarice’s difficult task of understanding and deciphering the mind of -not one but- two psychopaths creates multi-dimensions. Hopkins as Lecter, is incontrovertibly and incredibly at the top of his game and it is his brilliance that gets the best out of the other actors, especially Jodie Foster. In fact, it won’t be a hyperbole, that Anthony Hopkins’s portrayal of cannibalistic Hannibal Lecter in SILENCE OF THE LAMBS is one of the best, the world of cinema has ever seen or offered. In spite of having some of the most gruesomely disturbing and viciously graphic sequences, SILENCE OF THE LAMBS is one of the most decorated and enthralling movies of all time. A must watch.

Admission is:

$6 for the general public
$5 for seniors, Webster alumni and students from other schools
$4 for Webster University staff and faculty

Free for Webster students with proper I.D.

SILENCE OF THE LAMBS Screens at the Tenacious Eats ‘Movies for Foodies’ Event Oct. 22nd

Movies don’t usually get as creepy or thrilling as the top-notch, Oscar-winning SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, which will be screened next Tuesday, October 22nd, as part of Movies for Foodies, a regular film series put on by the chefs at Tenacious Eats. This is a one-of-a-kind event where food is prepared and plated in front of you, in the form of a 5-course gourmet meal, while you watch a film on the big screen. Tenacious Eats only works with locally produced food procured by them and hard-to-find ingredients imported from places that specialize in them. For each new film, the folks at Tenacious Eats write a new menu specific to that movie’s story. Sometimes the menu is literal and sometimes it is inspired interpretation. In all cases, each dining experience is different because each film is different. By integrating film and food, Movies for Foodies creates an original experience, a feast for the senses, an event that brings food and film, chefs and diners together. The location is Meyer’s Grove at 4510 Manchester in St. Louis. The doors open at 6pm and, after an hour or so of Super-8 Movie Madness and some pre-show music by the hot gypsy jazz duo COCO RICO,  SILENCE OF THE LAMBS will begin at 8pm.

“A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.” – That line has always made me hungry for a Liver Pate, Blackberry and Chianti compote, and Fava bean ragu. And that’s exactly what will be served for the first course next Tuesday night!

Silenceoflambs1

In SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, the young and feminine Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster), who is training to be an F.B.I. agent, must find the whereabouts of a serial killer named Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine). Buffalo Bill!? This calls for Bison Shepard Pie with Amish Blue whippers.

The only way possible is interviewing a captured serial killer named Dr. Hannibal “The Cannibal” Lecter (Anthony Hopkins).

In SILENCE OF THE LAMBS,  Buffalo Bill tells his captives “It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it get’s the hose again” in order to keep their skin soft and easy to remove from their bodies. Yummy! If that line makes you hungry for Smoked Chicken Ballantine stuffed with Chicken and Apple Sausage, Irish Cheddar Béchamel, and Chicken and Rosemary Crackins, you’re in luck! That’s exactly what will be served

Silence of the Lambs

After an intermission, it will be back to the movie: “Brave Clarice. You will let me know when those lambs stop screaming, won’t you?” This is where SILENCE OF THE LAMBS starts getting really scary and I’m sure you’ll be up for a Cornmeal Crusted Lambchop, English Pea and Mint Salad, and Red Windsor Twice Baked Potato with Demi Glace

And when poor Catherine is at the bottom of the well and Bill has been starving her so that her skin will loosen and make it easier to skin her, she utters the immortal line “Thanks for the scraps, asshole!”, which is a perfect excuse to serve PB&J Bread Pudding, Peanut Brittle, and raspberry Fruit Leather.

The screening of SILENCE OF THE LAMBS will feature not only this five course meal, but a five cocktails as well, and will be preceded by an hour of Super-8 Movie Madness and Pre-show music by hot gypsy jazz duo, COCO RICO!!! All tickets are $55.00 per person. Reservations highly recommended. Seating is limited. Surrounded by sounds, smells, sight and passion, a Movie for Foodies dinner is the immediate gratification of the senses.

And, from all of us at We Are Movie Geeks, to all of you

My Geek Stuff is better than yours…

As Movie Geeks, we enjoy collecting cool movie geek finds. Each of us has our own little personally customized collection of cool movie stuff… be it posters, promo stuff, schwag, screenplays, action figures, buttons… and that’s just the beginning!

We, the Movie Geeks, are going to start sharing our cool Movie Geek Finds with you, our readers… in exchange, we’d like to hear from all of you true movie geeks about your own finds, what it is, where and how you scored it, and why you dig it so much.

To kick things off, here’s my current collection of three movie-based MiniMates box sets: ‘Back to the Future’, ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ and ‘A Fistful of Dollars’…

MiniMates are sort of like what you’d get if you took characters from your favorite movies and made them into Lego people, except these are much more articulated and somewhat more detailed than Lego people. They are certainly cooler than your average Lego person.

The ‘Back to the Future’ set includes Marty McFly (with skateboard), Lorraine Baines, Biff Tannen and Doc Brown (with alternate head)… the ‘A Fistful of Dollars’ set includes The Man With No Name (with makeshift bulletproof armor), Marisol, John Baxter, Ramon Rojo, a shotgun and 3 pistols… the ‘Silence of the Lambs’ set includes Clarice Starling (with notepad), Hannibal the Doctor in blue jump suit, Hannibal the Cannibal in orange jump suit (with muzzle, straight jacket and hand cart) and Buffalo Bill (with gun).

If you have something like this, or something unlike this but in some way could be considered “cool movie geek stuff” then please tell us about it… we love cool movie geek stuff!
