New Photo Of Shia LaBeouf And Rosie Huntington-Whiteley In TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON

Michael Bay break time. Shia LaBeouf plays Sam Witwicky and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley plays Carly Miller in this first photo from Paramount Pictures’ TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON.

In March, Entertainment Weekly’s EW.com broke the news that Leonard Nimoy had joined the cast of the third Transformers film, TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON. In the film, Nimoy – who also voiced Galvatron in 1986’s THE TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE — will voice Sentinel Prime, Optimus Prime’s predecessor who was last seen on the moon in the teaser trailer. (His wrecked body was discovered by Apollo 11 astronauts.)

With less than 3 months until TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON is in theaters, what are you most excited about for Transformers 3?

Synopsis:

The Autobots Bumblebee, Ratchet, Ironhide and Sideswipe led by Optimus Prime, are back in action, taking on the evil Decepticons, who are determined to avenge their defeat in 2009′s ‘Transformers Revenge of the Fallen’. In this new movie, the Autobots and Decepticons become involved in a perilous space race between the U.S. and Russia, and once again human Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) has to come to the aid of his robot friends. There’s new characters too, including a new villain in the form of Shockwave, a longtime ‘Transformers’ character who rules Cybertron while the Autobots and Decepticons battle it out on Earth.

Starring Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, John Malkovich, Patrick Dempsey, Ken Jeong, John Turturro, Frances McDormand, Peter Cullen, and Tyrese Gibson, TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON will be in theaters July 1st 2011.

Review – WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS

WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS picks up where the original left off. Michael Douglas returns in his Oscar-winning role as Gordon “Greed is Good” Gekko. Emerging from a lengthy prison stint pre 9-11, the disgraced Gekko finds himself on the outside of a world he once dominated. His mission now in life is two-fold as we jump to 2008. For one, he’s looking to repair his damaged relationship with his daughter Winnie (Carey Mulligan), by forming an alliance with her fiancee Jake (Shia LaBeouf). Together these two attempt to destroy the newest corporate raider on the block, Bretton James (Josh Brolin) who instigated Jake’s mentor, Louis Zabel (Frank Langella), to commit suicide after his company was left in ruins. Secondly, Gekko is also trying to warn Jake and the rest of the world that certain questionable business practices within the financial community will cause a major economic collapse.

Director Oliver Stone tries to move the film along with one-liners written by Allan Loeb and Stephen Schiff, only to use contrived, symbolic scenes of falling dominoes and bursting bubbles to reinforce the global financial crisis of 2008 – a sequel that many were not clamoring for. However, some of the highlights worth noting are the many musical numbers by David Byrne of Talking Heads. Just as he did in the original WALL STREET, Byrne once again provides many new songs for the sequel. Look for noticable performances from the 2011 AMPAS Governors Award Recipient, Eli Wallach, as Jules Steinhardt and a brief appearance from Charlie Sheen’s Bud Fox. I wouldn’t be surprised if Michael Douglas sees another Academy Award Best Actor nomination for his portrayal of Gordon Gekko. For a second time, Douglas easily wears the conniving Wall Street garb with such ease and charm.

Unfortunately, even with the combination of director, a-list cast, and screenplay, I wasn’t sold on this sequel. Crowds will either not have seen it or not remember Fox’s $43 million original 1987 WALL STREET. I was uneasy with the theme, what with these ongoing hard times, and Stone’s patronizing speeches to the audience. True, the film’s plot of financial meltdown is current, but audiences won’t want to take this kind of a stroll down memory lane for 2 long and tedious hours. As engaging as the film tries to be, in the end Fox’s reboot falls short.

WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS rated PG-13 for brief strong language and thematic elements and has a running time of 132 minutes.

TRANSFORMERS 3 Chicago Set Photos and Ending

All in a day’s work for Josh Duhamel. MichaelBay.com and AceShowbiz has posted these new set pics from next summer’s TRANSFORMERS 3.

Aceshowbiz.com is also reporting that:

Michael Bay has revealed the final scenes of the third “Transformers” film. Speaking to Chicago Sun-Times, the helmer says they are shooting in Chicago until the end of August and the footage filmed there will be featured as part of the closing sequence.

Swipe to reveal Inviso-text ahead [SPOILER ALERT!] The Chicago footage “is at the very end of the movie and the city is under alien attack, so it’s very critical and important to the film’s climax,” Bay explains. “Something very bad has happened to America – and this is at the very end of the movie.”

They had some additional news on Megan Fox’s replacement, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

She is only said to be new female lead but her specific role was not mentioned. TFW2005 recently visited the Chicago set of the film where the site found out that the character played by Rosie is named Carly. In the animated series, Carly is described as the one who will eventually become Sam Witwicky’s wife. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura himself has confirmed that “Rosie will definitely be [Shia Labeouf’s] love interest though.”

Get Greedy for These WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS Goodies

Oliver Stone’s follow-up to WALL STREET hits theaters on April 23, 2010, and any worries as to how cool the new film was going to be have officially ceased with today’s release.  20th Century Fox unveiled the film’s official site which includes a link to the trailer and some awesome stills.  You can view the trailer over at IMDB by clicking on this link.

This looks very cool.  It has a nice setup, gives us a little of the Gordon Gekko we know and love, and shoots us straight into the modern world of cool traders and flashy office buildings.  What’s more, it doesn’t spell out too much of the film’s plot.  It just shows us cool images to whet our appetites.

Fox also released a number of official stills for WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS.

Check ’em out right here:

In addition to all these goodies, we also have ourselves the first shot of the film’s official poster:

Hillcoat’s THE PROMISED LAND Not So Promised After All

I end the year appropriately – gazing into the apocalypse of my own industry.

That is how writer/director John Hillcoat ended his years-long diary he kept while production on THE ROAD was taking place.   He submitted his entries to The Telegraph, and it is with his final entry that the first, worst movie news of the year hits us.   Evidently, Hillcoat’s passion project, THE PROMISED LAND, is no longer moving forward, as the financing for the film has fallen into oblivion.

Here is the exact diary entry where Hillcoat explains the situation and give his general consensus on the film industry as a whole:

The joke on set and in the edit suite was that we had to get this movie out before it became a reality. Ironically, the movie industry itself now faces its own apocalypse. The perfect storm has arrived in Hollywood: a global economic downturn combined with piracy and the increase of downloading on the internet – what happened to the record companies years ago but with much higher stakes. The reactionary first phase has kicked in – few films in development, many films put on hold or shut down.

My own new project – with a much-loved script by Nick Cave and a dream all-star cast – has fallen apart. The finance company that we began The Road with has also fallen apart, having to radically downsize to one remaining staff member. The great divide has begun, with only very low-budget films being made or huge 3-D franchise films – the birth of brand films such as Barbie, Monopoly: The Movie – who knows what’s next, Coca-Cola: The Movie?

I end the year appropriately – gazing into the apocalypse of my own industry.

This is very unfortunate, as the adaptation of Matt Bondurant’s novel THE WETTEST COUNTY IN THE WORLD that was to be THE PROMISED LAND was written by Nick Cave and had already attracted Ryan Gosling and Shia LaBeouf to star.

The writing has been on the wall for quite some time for these middle-of-the-road passion projects, and Hillcoat’s words in his diary are more true now than they ever have been.   With films like AVATAR making a billion dollars worldwide, more and more money is going to get pumped into big budget outings that studios can present under the 3-D canopy.   Extremely independent films, the true independents, as some would call them, will always be around, because there will always be film makers who find a way to get their stories out with minimal funding.

This isn’t to say we’ve seen the last of Hillcoat or even THE PROMISED LAND, though.   Hillcoat has many projects in the pipeline including THE DEATH OF BUNNY MUNRO based on the Nick Cave novel, MOB COPS starring Benicio Del Toro,   and he was also in talks to remake the 1973 French heist film, LA BONNE ANNEE.   And, who knows, some funders may come out of the woodworks to get THE PROMISED LAND off the ground.   Nothing is ever completely dead.   Just ask Terry Gilliam.   Until then, we all should keep our fingers crossed for John Hillcoat, THE PROMISED LAND, and the general state of the struggling, middle-of-the-road Hollywood players.

Gosling and LaBeouf Set for John Hillcoat’s WETTEST COUNTY

gosling labeouf

Ryan Gosling?   Shia LaBeouf? John Hillcoat?   Bootleggin’?   Suddenly, THE WETTEST COUNTY IN THE WORLD is creeping its way up to the top of my most anticipated list.   We knew Hillcoat was directing the film about bootlegging brothers in Depression-era Virginia.   However, thanks to an interview with the director by our buddies over at Atomic Popcorn, we have some faces to go with those characters.   Hillcoat, whether he was suppossed to reveal them or not, stated that Gosling and LaBeouf were attached.

But yeah, I shouldn’t really talk about it cause it’s in the middle of all sorts of stuff.

That’s what he said precisely.   What’s more is the fact that Nick Cave, who has had a hand in Hillcoat’s previous films (he wrote THE PROPOSITION and co-wrote the music for THE ROAD), is also adapting the screenplay for WETTEST COUNTY from the novel by Matt Bondurant.   It is Bondurant’s grandfather, Jack, who is the central character of the true-life story.

What do you think?   Are Gosling and LaBeouf the perfect choice to play Depression-era, bootlegging siblings?   Can Hillcoat and Cave working together do any wrong?   Be honest.   Which actor is cooler in those two pics above?   Give us your take on this story in the comment section below.

Harrison Ford Talks ‘Indy 5’

indiana jones 5

The story for the new Indiana Jones is in the process of taking form.

That was how Harrison Ford put it when he spoke with the French newspaper,   Le Figaro.

Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and myself are agreed on what the fifth adventure will concern, and George is actively at work. If the script is good, I’ll be very happy to put the costume on again.

It’s not surprising that a fifth ‘Indy’ film is on its way.   ‘Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls’ pulled in over $786 million worldwide, and Ford isn’t getting any younger.   Of course, there is always the possibility of letting co-star Shia LaBeouf headline the next installment, but that’s just a shark waiting to be jumped.

And, while it may grit fan’s teeth to hear Lucas’ name back in context with the ‘Indiana Jones’ series, you have to seriously wonder how little of ‘Kingdom of Crystal Skulls’ lack of cohesion was his fault.   Spielberg has been hit or miss in recent years, at best, and Ford hasn’t made a solid film in 16 years.

Time will tell if ‘Indy 5’ recaptures the magic of the first three films or if it is just another hokey adventure for Papa and Boy Jones to get in.   Many fans are hoping and maybe even expecting the former rather than the latter.   Regardless, it’s sure to make a mint.
