When I reviewed SHAUN THE SHEEP MOVIE, the latest from Aardman Studios, for its theatrical run, I wrote: “The most entertaining animal story since BABE, SHAUN THE SHEEP MOVIE is this summer’s sleeper for kids and their parents, a terrific and hilarious movie that takes a lot of risks and makes them all pay off. The modelmakers and stop-motion animators at Aardman studios have created a witty, high-spirited adventure literally out of clay with lovingly rendered detail and the same type of visual hijinks that made their Wallace & Gromit shorts such classics.” (read all of my review HERE)

Now you can own SHAUN THE SHEEP MOVIE on Bu-ray and DVD when it’s released November 24 from Lionsgate Home Entertainment.

We Are Movie Geeks has had an advance peek at the Blu-ray

SHAUN THE SHEEP MOVIE arrives on Blu-ray with a dazzling 1080p high definition transfer. This is a smooth, rich, picture-perfect image that reveals every last bit of information. Detail is remarkably precise and complex through every frame, across every element. Whether Shaun’s furry coat, patchwork clothing, wrinkles in fabrics, or scuffed barnyard textures, , this Blu-ray captures with precision detail every last little texture from beginning to end. The color palette is just as brilliant. The many daylight scenes offer a startling array of balanced, accurate hues. This is a reference-quality animated transfer that impresses even this far into the Blu-ray game.

The lack of dialogue in SHAUN THE SHEEP MOVIE means that most of the “sounds” on the soundtrack are effects-driven but they sound great on this Blu-ray with a wonderful Master Audio 5.1 track. The track plays big, spreading out easily across the front end while employing rich, detailed sound through the entire range and across a number of sonic elements.

The extras are average:

  • Making the Shaun Movie runs 12 minutes. The makers of SHAUN THE SHEEP MOVIE acts out some of the scenes from the film before explaining how it was made.
  • Meet the Characters runs 4 minutes and introduces not just the players but some of the plot of the film.
  • Join Shaun Behind the Scenes runs 2 ½ minutes and features Shaun’s animator and model maker and includes some interesting footage of a sequence being prepared for stop motion animation.

Shaun and his wooly pals are on a mission to make a statement next week when they hit the big screen in SHAUN THE SHEEP MOVIE.

Lionsgate has released two hilarious SPECTRE and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE spoof posters before the film opens on August 5.

When Shaun grows bored of his daily routine at Mossy Bottom Farm under the watchful eye of The Farmer and his dutiful dog Bitzer, he conspires with the rest of the flock to take a much-needed day off. Their scheme seems to be working perfectly after they trick The Farmer into falling asleep (by making him count sheep, of course), but their staycation is derailed when he is unwittingly transported via runaway camper trailer to the Big City.

Determined to find The Farmer and bring him home, Shaun and his flockmates embark on a well-intentioned if ill-conceived rescue mission to the nearby bustling metropolis. Their action-packed adventure soon finds the sheep going undercover as human diners in a fancy restaurant, tangling with overzealous animal-control officer TRUMPER, plotting a daring escape from a prison-like animal shelter and hatching an elaborate plan to retrieve their amnesiac master-turned-celebrity hair stylist.

Without a word of dialogue, stop-motion animation comedy SHAUN THE SHEEP MOVIE powers through visual puns, sight gags and rollicking plot twists to arrive at a hard-won realization: there’s no place like home.

Cute and lovable, with his little crop-top hairstyle, his big eyes and simple face, Shaun decided to make a stop over on his worldwide tour and visit some of the well known sites of St. Louis.

With 140 TV episodes and a motion picture under his belt, this little sheep planned a fun-filled day out by taking Shaun Selfies at popular St. Louis destinations! On his list were the Arch, Busch Stadium, the Science Center and the Zoo.

SHAUN THE SHEEP MOVIE is finally opening in U.S. theaters on August 5.

It was announced today that SILVA SCREEN RECORDS will release composer Ilan Eshkeri’s ebullient score to Aardman Animation’s latest claymation shenanigans.

Also featured on the soundtrack are songs from Tim Wheeler (Ash), Eliza Doolittle and Rizzle Kicks who provide a remix of Life’s A Treat, the ever popular Shaun The Sheep TV theme.

Ilan Eshkeri is a British composer and songwriter best known for his concert work, songwriting collaborations, film scores and video game scores.

Recent film work includes STILL ALICE, for which Julianne Moore won an Oscar, Kevin Macdonald’s BLACK SEA starring Jude Law, 47 RONIN starring Keanu Reeves, and the Oscar nominated THE INVISIBLE WOMAN, Ralph Fiennes’ second outing as a director. Other films include Oscar winning THE YOUNG VICTORIA, KICK-ASS and STARDUST.

Eshkeri is currently commissioned to compose a ballet, and is completing his score to AUTOBAHN starring Anthony Hopkins, Ben Kingsley, Nicholas Hoult & Felicity Jones.

The Academy Celebrating Aardman Animations – WALLACE AND GROMIT Among 3 Program Event Aug 7 And 9

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences celebrates the work of Aardman Animations with three programs featuring the studio’s Oscar-winning and nominated WALLACE AND GROMIT shorts on Friday, August 7, and Sunday, August 9.

Aardman’s latest film, SHAUN THE SHEEP MOVIE, will be released in U.S. theaters on August 7.

Wallace and Gromit Restored – The Marc Davis Celebration of Animation
Friday, August 7, 7:30 p.m. │Samuel Goldwyn Theater, Beverly Hills
As part of the Academy’s Marc Davis Celebration of Animation series, Aardman Animations co-founder David Sproxton and Wallace and Gromit cinematographer Dave Alex Riddett will discuss the making of the studio’s Oscar-winning shorts “The Wrong Trousers” and “A Close Shave,” and the Oscar-nominated shorts “A Grand Day Out” and “A Matter of Loaf and Death.”

The program also will include the world premiere screening of the restorations of all four films, the result of a collaborative effort between the Academy Film Archive and Aardman Animations.

Cracking Animation: Behind the Scenes at Aardman

The Academy returns to SIGGRAPH Conference with a panel featuring Sproxton and Riddett, who will trace the arc of Aardman’s voyage over the last three decades, present clips of the studio’s work, and discuss the evolving production techniques and future prospects of stop-motion animation.

A Grand Day Out: Wallace and Gromit Family Matinees
Sunday, August 9, 1–5:30 p.m. │Linwood Dunn Theater, Hollywood
The Academy presents matinee screenings of all four Wallace and Gromit shorts for families, as well as an animation workshop for children ages 8 to 13. The 90-minute hands-on workshop will offer a small group of participants the opportunity to learn some of Aardman Animations’ stop-motion techniques.
