ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW Screens Midnights at The Tivoli This Weekend

rocky-header2016-560

They come wearing bustiers, corsets, and great gouts of eyeliner. And some women get into the act too! THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW, the longest-running midnight and audience partici-(SAY IT!)-pation movie of them all, will play at Landmark’s Tivoli Theater in St. Louis next weekend at midnight (April 8th and 9th). The Tivoli does this every year and the shows are often sell-outs, so get your tickets early! The Tivoli does a great job of making ROCKY HORROR an interactive movie experience with a live “Shadow Cast” known as The Samauri Electricians who perform scenes during the movie and of course the audience is encouraged to respond to the on-screen action as well. The street party always starts early as attendees dressed as Frank N. Furter, Riff Raff, Magenta, and the gang line up outside the Tivoli hours before showtime and We Are Movie Geeks will be there to snap pics and help get the audience riled up. The Tivoli encourages folks to attend in costume, but does not allow outside props, but they do sell an essential “prop bag” for only two dollars. The bag contains rice, toilet paper, Glow Sticks, Time Warp Fliers, Rubber Gloves, Noisemakers, Confetti, and everything you’ll need even if you’re a ROCKY HORROR “Virgin” experiencing the fun for the first time. I used to see ROCKY HORROR at the (now-defunct) Varsity theater down the street in the late 1970′s and not much has changed in 30+ years, my only observation being that this new generation of fans is even less inhibited and likes to show off more skin (not that I’m complaining – they’re in better shape!) We hope to see everyone at the Tivoli (6350 Delmar Boulevard) April 8th and 9th.

The Tivoli Announces the ‘Reel Late’ Midnight Line-Up – MAD MAX, EVIL DEAD, Miyazaki

mid-560

“Do you know what they call a Quarter Pounder with cheese in France?”

Another brilliant lineup of midnight movies for the ‘Reel Late at The Tivoli’ to kick off the 2016 season. It’s a typically good variety of titles that will draw the late night movie buff crowd with a couple of retro surprises. The Midnight Movie experience has always catered to a college-age crowd and that’s the way it should be. ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW with live shadow cast with the Samurai Electricians kicks off the new schedule on April 8th and 9th. The oldest film this time is the original THE EVIL DEAD from 1983 and the most recent is last year’s winner of 6 Oscars (and deserving of at least 4 more) MAD MAX: FURY ROAD.  There’s a Miyazaki thrown in there for attendance insurance and a handful of standards including BLADE RUNNER and PULP FICTION. I believe ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and the original EVIL DEAD are new to the Tivoli midnight roster, and I suspect they will draw good crowds.

Here’s the line-up:

April 8-9               ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW – with live shadow cast, Samurai Electricians! – All tickets $10 for ROCKY

April 15-16           LABYRINTH – David Bowie

April 22-23           MAD MAX: FURY ROAD

April 29-30           KIKI’S DELIVERY SERVICE – subtitled

May 6-7                BLADE RUNNER: THE FINAL CUT

May 13-14           ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND  – Written by Charlie Kaufman (ANOMALISA)

May 20-21           THE EVIL DEAD

May 27-28           PULP FICTION

Reel Late at the Tivoli takes place every Friday and Saturday night and We Are Movie Geeks own Tom Stockman (that’s me!) is there with custom trivia questions about the films and always has DVDs, posters, and other cool stuff to give away. Ticket prices are $8 (except ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW which is $10). We hope to see everyone late at night in the coming weeks.

The Tivoli Announces the ‘Reel Late’ Midnight Line-Up – FLASH GORDON, PLANET OF THE APES

X6-HEADER

“Take your stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape!”

Ted the talking teddy bear will be so excited! Another brilliant lineup of midnight movies for the ‘Reel Late at The Tivoli’ for the rest of the season. It’s a typically good variety of titles that will draw the late night movie buff crowd and a couple of retro surprises are to be found. The Midnight Movie experience has always catered to a college-age crowd and that’s the way it should be. FLASH GORDON starring the one and only Sam Jones kicks off the new schedule on September 18th and 19th. The oldest film this time is the original PLANET OF THE APES from 1968 and the most recent is this year’s WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS, the vampire roomies mockumentary that I suspect will end up on a lot of Top Ten lists. Of course, we’re ending the season with ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW with live shadow cast with the Samurai Electricians.

X3-2

Reel Late at the Tivoli takes place every Friday and Saturday night and We Are Movie Geeks own Tom Stockman (that’s me!) is there with custom trivia questions about the films and always has DVDs, posters, and other cool stuff to give away. I can’t wait to write FLASH GORDON trivia! Ticket prices are $8 (except ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW which is $10). We hope to see everyone late at night in the coming weeks.

The Tivoli Announces the ‘Reel Late’ Midnight Line-Up – MAD MAX, THE THING, BLADE RUNNER – Oh My!

MIDNIGHT-560

“I am the Nightrider. I’m a fuel injected suicide machine. I am the rocker, I am the roller, I am the out-of-controller!”

I gotta say – this lineup of midnight movies for the ‘Reel Late at The Tivoli’ may be the best ever! It’s almost like they let me choose them myself (which they did not). It’s a great selection with an unusually cool variety of standards and classics to draw the late night movie buff crowd.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The awesome line-up of midnight movies begins April 3rd and 4th with THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW (usually the series ends with ROCKY in October so we’ll see how it does in April – meaning will it sell out in advance or on the night of?). The roster includes one Miyazaki (attendance insurance), the animated WATERSHIP DOWN (the uneven 1978 version of Richard Adams’ 1972 cult novel about rabbits) and cult comedy nuggets BETTER OFF DEAD and BEETLEJUICE (both recent Tenacious Eats fare!). But it’s a trio of Sci-fi masterpieces showing on the big screen midnights at the Tivoli that’s the real excitement! Hardboiled, uncompromising and totally bad-ass, George Miller’s MAD MAX, which single-handedly boosted the Australian film Industry in 1979 will play midnights May 8th and 9th – the weekend before the belated fourth chapter of the Mad Max saga, MAD MAX FURY ROAD opens. Ridley Scott’s stunning futuristic film noir epic BLADE RUNNER, which I have not seen on the big screen in quite a while, is scheduled for April 24th and 25th.  John Carpenter’s THE THING (1982) is his best film – the suspense is heart pounding, the performances uniformly terrific, and Rob Bottin’s monster effects are timelessly terrifying and the star of the film. THE THING is a terrific choice for a midnight movie and should pack ‘em in when it plays May 22nd and 23rd.

ROCKY HORROR Time! The Tivoli Announces the Latest ‘Reel Late’ Midnight Series Line-Up

“I wonder who the real cannibals are.”

Holy Turtle Soup! I can’t believe I get to see CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST on the big screen one more time! And YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN is a cool choice too. And of course, the return of THE ROOM (sans Tommy)!

Another awesome line-up of midnight movies including one anime standard and some other cult nuggets make up the next wave of films at the Tivoli for their “Reel Late at the Tivoli” midnight program! It’s a great selection with the usual variety of standards and classics that draw the late night movie buff crowd.
