WAMG Interview: Mike Nelson

Michael J. Nelson is best known as the creator and host of the hilarious Emmy and Peabody Award-winning show Mystery Science Theater 3000. Mr. Nelson has amassed a large loyal fan base that enjoys his sarcastically sharp and often brutal form of comedy that pokes fun of movies that “have it coming.” Mike travels all over the country to speak and is frequently a guest on numerous radio and TV shows. He has also written three books: Mike Nelson’s Movie Megacheese, Mind Over Matters and A Year at the Movies. Even though MST3K is no longer running, Mr. Nelson has joined the legions of people who see the Internet as the future of entertainment, bringing his trademark humor to a new website called RiffTrax.com

We Are Movie Geeks had an opportunity to sit down and speak with Mike Nelson over the phone. Here is the interview for you to enjoy …

Mike Nelson returns with Rifftrax.com

For all of you MST3K nuts out there [myself included], you wish has come true. No, there isn’t a channel on cable devoted entirely to the show, but this is the next best thing … a website devoted entirely to a massive collection of NEW “rifftrax” … basically the same thing, but these are movies (many newer ones) that have had an entire feature length MST3K-style audio commentary track added in for our viewing pleasure. Sorry, no Tom Servo, Gypsy or Crow … but the site offers lots of choices and even features some awesome guest “riffers” including Fred Willard, “Weird” Al Yankovic and Neil Patrick Harris. Of course, Mike Nelson is a regular “riffer” along with Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett.

The site features downloadable RiffTrax that play along with your DVD of choice, or you can even download the RiffTrax Player that automatically syncs the RiffTrax with your DVD and plays it simultaneously … this way us techno-mediocrites who only know enough to get ourselves in trouble can also enjoy the fun. Not sure if its worth it … got to the website and view some of the many free samples. Oh, but don’t say I didn’t warn you. WAMG is not responsible for any busted guts.
