Bryan Cranston, Mads Mikkelsen And Rebel Wilson Join Cast For KUNG FU PANDA 3

kung-fu-panda-2-KFP2001_rgb12

“Pandamonium” is back for a triple kick with a trio of new cast members in DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc.’s Kung Fu Panda 3 which will be distributed by 20th Century Fox. Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad, Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted), Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal, Casino Royale) and Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect, Bridesmaids) join Jack Black, Angelina Jolie and other original cast members in the third installment of the beloved action-packed franchise.

The film, slated for December 23, 2015, marks the first planned co-production with Chinabased Oriental DreamWorks and follows Po, the chosen one, as he continues on his journey mastering the art of Kung Fu… and noodle slurping.

Continuing on his now legendary adventures of awesomeness, Po must face two hugely epic, but very different threats:  one supernatural and the other a little closer to home.

This chapter in the continuing adventures of Kung Fu Panda is directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson, who also helmed the worldwide hit Kung Fu Panda 2 and remains the highest grossing female director for a film at the worldwide box office.

DreamWorks Animation's "Kung Fu Panda 2" Premiere - Red Carpet

The film is produced by Melissa Cobb, executive produced by Guillermo del Toro and co-produced by Jeffrey Hermann along with Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger, who wrote and co-produced the original films and continue in these roles.

“Having the wonderful Jennifer Yuh Nelson return as director is incredibly exciting for the studio. Under her guidance I have no doubt that our returning cast and our outstanding new voice talent will take the franchise’s story to the next level,” said DreamWorks Animation Chief Creative Officer Bill Damaschke .

The first two chapters of DreamWorks Animation’s critically acclaimed Kung Fu Panda franchise opened in 2008 and 2011. Both films were honored with Academy Award® nominations for Best Animated Feature Film. Together, they have generated approximately $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office. DreamWorks’ highly-rated CG animated television series Kung Fu Panda : Legends of Awesomeness debuted on Nickelodeon in 2011 and has won four Daytime Emmy® Awards.

STRUCK BY LIGHTNING – SLIFF Review

High school is a tough place. We all know that. Its a struggle to survive at a time when hormones rule and pressure builds from every angle. Parents, teachers, friends, where to go to college, whether to even go to college? For Carson Phillips, everything is boiling to a point and all he wants is one simple thing… to get into his dream college.

Chris Colfer (GLEE) not only stars as the sharp-tongued Carson Phillips, he wrote this darkly comical satire on the high school experience. Directed by Brian Dannelly, the film is a good fit for someone whose resume includes TV shows like WEEDS, PUSHING DAISIES and THE UNITES STATES OF TARA. STRUCK BY LIGHTNING begins with the death of Carson Phillips. I know, its a risky way to start a film. After all, it goes to reason that Carson never makes it to college, but that’s not really what its all about, as we come to learn while Carson’s recently departed spirit narrates the film in retrospect.

Carson is the editor of his school’s newspaper. This would be a commendable accomplishment, except that he attends a small, rural country school, where everyone assumes they are destined to be stuck in the dreadful town of Clover for the remainder of their days and therefor aspire to do next to nothing with their lives. That is, all but one… Carson Phillips. Smarter than the average Clover resident — by his own measure — Carson dreams of becoming an accomplished journalist. The problem is, no one at his school cares.

Rebel Wilson (BRIDEMAIDS) plays Malerie, an odd character and Carson’s only friend. Allyson Janney plays Carson’s alcoholic mother, devastated when Carson’s father Neil (Dermot Mulroney) leaves them, she takes it out on Carson, day after day. Things for Carson are looking grim, until he comes up with not just a plan to get into his dream college, but a master plan for forcing the student body to contribute by way of blackmailing them with their dirty little secrets in exchange for their help.

STRUCK BY LIGHTNING features all the high school stereotypes, dialed up to be especially unlikeable. For that matter, even Carson is difficult to like, with his smart mouth and arrogant attitude, but we root for him as the lesser of all evils. Clover is not a town most people will find inviting, but it lends to an idea that small town teenagers often struggle with what to do with their lives and how to achieve such goals. On the other hand, Carson ultimately learns a valuable lesson about life, albeit a short one in his case.

Like so many high school comedies today, STRUCK BY LIGHTNING does fall into the same general melting pot of modern teen-life stories. This is no DONNIE DARKO, but the film does still have a personality of its own buried just beneath the many cliches. The supporting cast offers an added touch of talent, including Christina Hendricks as Carson’s dad’s new fiance, Sarah Hyland as Claire, the stuck-up lead cheerleader who “probably sh*ts cupcakes,” Ashley Rickards as Vicki, the apathetic Goth girl, Angela Kinsey as the absent-minded blond bimbo school counselor, and Brad William Henke as the jaded high school principal with anger management issues.

Overall, STRUCK BY LIGHTNING is an exaggerated and humorous take on a certain set of truths about high school. Chris Colfer interjects a dialogue clearly inspired by his experience with GLEE, but fails to deliver anything refreshingly original. Instead of a film that could grow into a cult classic of the genre, the film settles for being an entertaining movie worth seeing with a bucket of popcorn in one arm and a lovely companion in the other. The film is not likely to stick with you for long, but you certainly will have a good time and plenty of laughs.

Overall Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

STRUCK BY LIGHTNING screens during the 21st Annual Whitaker St. Louis International Film Festival on Tuesday, November 13th, 7:30pm at the Tivoli Theatre.

Universal Pictures Seeks New Talent For Nicki Minaj’s “Starships” For PITCH PERFECT

Universal Pictures announced that it has begun the search for new talent to appear in “Starships,” the official music video for Pitch Perfect, the studio’s upcoming musical comedy that hits theaters on October 5. With the chance to join the film’s cast and Internet music sensation Mike Tompkins in the video, amateur musicians and dancers are encouraged to submit their best vocals; signature moves; beatbox; and/or guitar, bass, synth and back-up sounds to accompany this cover of Nicki Minaj’s worldwide smash.

With multiple options for participation, fans may submit their entries at www.pitchperfectmovie.com/musicvideo. Those selected for the project will have their video showcased on both the Blu-ray DVD of Pitch Perfect and Tomkins’ YouTube channel, which currently has more than 550,000 subscribers.

Pitch Perfect celebrates everyone out there who is following his or her true passion,” said the film’s director, Jason Moore.  “Mike Tompkins embodies passion for music, and we’re thrilled to be able to partner with him on this project.  I can’t wait to watch the undiscovered talent that I know we’ll find.”

“When Universal approached me with the idea to make a video for Pitch Perfect, I knew it would be a fun partnership,” noted Tompkins.  “Making music has driven me since I was a kid, and I know there are many others out there who love it as much as I do.  I’m looking forward to seeing what we are able to create together.”

This is the first time Tompkins has collaborated with filmmakers, talent and a studio on the official music video for a movie.  Tompkins, represented by Maker Studios—a next-generation talent-first music company—is best known for creating his own unique twist on music covers using only his voice and mouth.  As his popularity rose, he was noticed by some of the biggest names in entertainment and has since collaborated as a producer and writer with Timbaland and been featured on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, NBC’s TODAY show and PerezHilton.com, among others.  Tompkins and Alana Da Fonseca arranged this new a cappella version of “Starships,” which was written by Nicki Minaj, RedOne, Carl Falk, Rami Yacoub and Wayne Hector.

All submissions must be received by August 22, 2012.  Please visit www.pitchperfectmovie.com/musicvideo for entry details and terms and conditions.

Beca (Anna Kendrick) is that girl who’d rather listen to what’s coming out of her headphones than what’s coming out of you.  Arriving at her new college, she finds herself not right for any clique but somehow is muscled into one that she never would have picked on her own: alongside mean girls, sweet girls and weird girls whose only thing in common is how good they sound when they sing together, in the new out-loud comedy Pitch Perfect.

When Beca takes this acoustic singing group out of their world of traditional arrangements and perfect harmonies into all-new mash-ups, they fight to climb their way to the top of the cutthroat world of college music competitions.  This could wind up either the coolest thing they’ll ever do or the most insane, and it will probably be a little of both.

Loaded with new takes on old favorites to hits of right now that are seamlessly mixed together, mashed-up and arranged like you’ve never heard before, Pitch Perfect is directed by Jason Moore, who opened our eyes to the very misbehaved life of puppets in the surprise Broadway sensation Avenue Q.

BRIDESMAIDS – The Review

Ladies, BRIDESMAIDS is a must see! Grab your girls and get to the theaters because this film is hilarious! Guys, this isn’t just a chick flick!

Annie (Kristen Wiig) is s fun chick that doesn’t really have a lot going for her. Her bakery closed, her boyfriend broke up with her, and she is pretty much broke. Oh, did I mention that she is sleeping with a total asshole named Ted (Jon Hamm) too! The one thing that she does have going for her is best friend since childhood, Lillian (Maya Rudolph). Things really start to go downhill after Lillian asks Annie to be her maid of honor. Clashes with another bridesmaid, a crazy bachelorette party and an incredibly adorable cop are all about to be thrown Annie’s way!

Judd Apatow really outdid himself with this film. I was laughing the entire time. The conversations between Annie and Lillian could easily be a separate movie. Their conversations are raunchy, dirty, and any other word that you can think of for that kind of fun filled language! I do like how they portrayed the character of Annie. In this day and age, it is so easy to see people just settle. They blame their crappy lives on others instead of fighting to change them. That is exactly what Annie does. She accepts her crappy job, car, and booty call… and when something good comes along she runs from it. It sends a nice, understated message behind all of the laughs. Plus, Kristen Wiig is funny, so the message goes down with a spoon full of sugar. The ridiculous bunch of women that they cast for the bridal party only heighten the laughs! Rose Byrne, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Ellie Kemper are all outstanding! Each one of their characters are so vastly different that you never know what is going to happen next. The icing on the bridal party cake is by far Melissa McCarthy. She is phenomenal! Her comedic delivery had me crying with laughter!

Now, for all you boys out there, I will warn you… These ladies talk about some pretty nasty stuff. Then again, I’m desensitized to it since I have a mouth like a sailor. Still, it’s really funny. Just know that their will be some penis jokes at your expense. The main reason that the film got the R rating was based off of the dialogue… well that and the overall sexual content! Needless to say, don’t bring your kids to this!

The cast, the script, everything about this film had me in a state of shrieking merriment! I could write a ton about it, but I don’t want to spoil it! Go see this film!!!

OVERALL RATING: 5 out of 5 stars
