Bruckheimer Comments on ‘Pirates 4’, ‘National Treasure 3’, and ‘Lone Ranger’

Jerry Bruckheimer is made of gold. Â  I’m convinced of it. Â  I think if he were to go on a tour of the National Reserve, alarms would blare if he tried to leave.

Well, Bruckheimer sat down with a panel of journalists on the set of ‘Prince of Persia’ to discuss some of this other, upcoming money-makers. Â  He stated that ‘National Treasure 3’ and ‘Pirates 4’ are both in the script phase.

“We’ve sat with the writers and we’re working up the story and plotlines right now. Â  They’re in the process of finishing ‘The Lone Ranger’ so they’re working on both of those simultaneously, same set of writers, Elliot and Rossio, who did all three ‘Pirates’ and worked on ‘National Treasure 2’,” Bruckheimer said.

When asked if the next ‘Pirates’ film would be in IMAX, Bruckheimer said, “Absolutely. I’d love to do it, so let’s just see if we can work it through the production schedule with everything else.”

He went on to say that ‘Pirates 4’ would be pushing for a 2012 release.

It was more or less made official last month at the Disney event in Hollywood that Johnny Depp would be playing Tonto in ‘The Lone Ranger’, but ever since, there have been rumors about George Clooney putting on the black mask. Â  Bruckheimer commented on that, too.

“We haven’t decided who is going to play the Lone Ranger yet. Â  Get a director first and then figure it out.”

Kingsley Wants YOU to See ‘Prince of Persia’

One of two things is going on here.   Either Ben Kinsley is throwing up some dangerous gang signs, or he’s rocking his new getup for ‘Prince of Persia’.   Defamer, who posted the picture, says the latter, but I’m not sure.   That Kingsley is one dangerous mo-fo.

Either way, ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’ is currently shooting in Morrocco.   It is set for a May 28, 2010 release.

The film is being directed by Mike Newell and also stars Ben Kingsley and Alfred Molina.   It is being released by Disney.

‘Prince of Persia’ Details Revealed …

More news regarding Prince of Persia….

“Prince of Persia” creator Jordan Mechner appeared at San Diego Comic-Con where he discussed the upcoming “Prince of Persia” Disney movie, which is currently in development. [via IGN]

He said that the film will be based on the “Sands of Time” game, revealing that the script does not literally follow the storyline of the game. Mechner added that he does not expect any potential film sequels to be based on the subsequent games “Warrior Within” and “The Two Thrones” since they took the game’s storyline in a different direction. Nothing from either of those games, including characters, will be in the current movie.

Mechner said that adapting an interactive experience into a non-interactive one means re-conceiving the story. The challenge of the script was in writing an entirely new story than the game even if it has the same meaning, plot elements, and characters as the game. The movie has to be different because it is engineered to be played while the film is a spectator experience. Mechner wants the viewer to be taken on an emotional journey and to care about the characters so that way it’s not all just about fighting monsters and action set-pieces.

Unlike his game counterpart, the title character in the movie to be played by Jake Gyllenhaal will have a name. Mechner said that he chose the name “Dastan” for the prince because he believes its an old Persian name that means “trickster.”

Mechner wants the story to offer viewers a journey that takes them to more places than just a castle. Due to secrecy, he would not reveal what powers the prince might have in the movie or discuss key plot elements. He expects the film to be rated PG or PG-13 and for its level of violence to be along the lines of other summer blockbusters such as “Pirates of the Caribbean.”

Why the heck do they have Gyllenhall playing a Persian Prince?

Sir Ben Kingsley added to ‘Prince of Persia’

The big screen adaptation of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, based on the Ubisoft videogame series, has added a major player to its cast … Sir Ben Kingsley. The film is being produced by Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer and begins shooting next month in Morocco and England. Mike Newell (Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire) will be directing. Jake Gyllenhaal will play the heroic Prince while Kingsley will play the villainous Nizam, who plans to kill his brother the King and frame the Prince in order to seize the throne. Gemma Arterton and Alfred Molina will also be in the film.

Jake Gyllenhaal will become ‘Prince of Persia’

Based on the popular video game series that’s [nearly] as old as I am, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time will star Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton. The film will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Mike Newell.

[ In the fantasy adventure, Gyllenhaal will play Dastan, a young prince in 6th century Persia who must join forces with Tamina (Arterton), a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.] — The Hollywood Reporter
