DINOSAURS OF THE WILD WEST Series Kickstarter Campaign Kicks-Off And See The New Trailer

Following the VIRAL FIRST TEASER that generated millions of views across social media platforms in June, the creators behind 2025 cult-dinosaur feature, PRIMITIVE WAR, launch a new live action series that invites dinosaur fans to join them in creating “the New Frontier.”

Inspired by the illustrated world and artwork of creator Shaun Keenan, DINOSAURS OF THE WILD WEST blends large-scale storytelling with prehistoric spectacle. The series imagines a world where humanity didn’t build civilization on horses and steam… but on dinosaurs.

The official synopsis for the series reads: “In an alternate frontier, humanity navigates a dangerous land where every journey, every town, and every war depend on the giant creatures that shaped civilization itself. But now, something is rising that threatens to change the world and the dinosaur connection forever. Dinosaurs of the Wild West is an epic adventure series that reimagines the American frontier through a world millions of years in the making”

Launching today alongside a cinematic first-look trailer narrated by Cobra Kai actor Jesse Kove, the Kickstarter campaign invites audiences to claim their place in the frontier through an independently driven production model.

“Instead of waiting years for a network to decide whether this should exist, we’re putting that decision directly in the hands of audiences. It was heartwarming to see the teaser liked and shared so enthusiastically by millions of fans. That response is entirely down to audiences embracing the concept, it tells us everything we need to know about whether this world deserves to exist. Creators are past the point of proving they can go direct to fans – Chris Stuckmann’s Shelby Oaks becoming the highest funded horror Kickstarter of all time solidified that. Dinosaurs of the Wild West is our version of that moment with our own built-in audience. This is a pre-order model – if enough fans around the world show up and claim their place, we’re away,” said showrunner Luke Sparke.

The creative team behind the 2025 cult-dinosaur feature PRIMITIVE WAR has released a first teaser for an ambitious new project currently in development.


WAMG loved PRIMITIVE WAR and in our positive review, we said “you do get what you want… dinosaurs, and LOTS of them.” The film stars Ryan Kwanten (“True Blood”), Tricia Helfer (“Battlestar Galactica,” “Lucifer”), Nick Wechsler (“The Boys”) and Jeremy Piven (“Entourage”). Check out the film streaming on HULU.

Inspired by the artwork of creator Shaun Keenan and expanded into an original cinematic universe by filmmaker Luke Sparke, the project blends western frontier mythology with a world where dinosaurs and humans have existed side by side for generations.

The brief teaser offers only a glimpse of the world and marks the project’s public debut ahead of the official Kickstarter campaign scheduled to launch in 20 days.

“This is an opportunity for dinosaur enthusiasts , Primitive War fans and cinema buƯs to be a part of the production process and create something the world has never seen. We want to create something that feels completely fresh while still capturing the sense of wonder and adventure that first made us fall in love with dinosaur stories,” said Sparke.

The full trailer, project title, exclusive rewards and more will be unveiled when the official Kickstarter campaign goes live on July 7th 2026.

Luke Sparke’s DINO Epic Gets A Sequel And Title – PRIMITIVE WAR 2

Primitive War 2, the official sequel to the cult war-horror feature Primitive War, has been announced by Sparke Films, with filmmaker Luke Sparke returning as writer, director, and producer. It’s based on the book series by Ethan Pettus. 

Building on the success of the first film, Primitive War 2 expands the scope and mythology of the franchise, pushing deeper into the Vietnam conflict zone where 1960s warfare collides with prehistoric predators. The sequel is positioned as a darker, more intense escalation — and more grounded war epic—continuing the series’ distinctive blend of military realism and survival horror.

Set in the aftermath of the original film, Primitive War 2 follows a new U.S. platoon sent into an increasingly unstable valley, where competing kill zones, rival apex predators, and secret Cold War agendas converge. As containment collapses, the mission becomes one of survival — and the cost of failure threatens to extend far beyond the battlefield.

Sparke, who also served as editor, Production designer and VFX supervisor on the first film, described the sequel as “a natural evolution of the story.”

“The first film was about discovery,” said Sparke. “This is about escalation—what happens when control is lost, when nature adapts faster than military doctrine, and when the war itself becomes secondary to what’s been unleashed.”

The original Primitive War was released internationally and quickly gained a strong following for its grounded tone, practical military detail, and distinctive approach to the dinosaur genre. The sequel aims to further cement the franchise as a unique entry in the dinosaur and war-horror space.

Series author Ethan Pettus adds, “I had a blast watching the first Primitive War film, and I’m excited to see how the sequel goes!”

Primitive War alumni are also reuniting, including Sparke’s local Queensland based production crew and producers Carmel Imrie, Carly Sparke, Executive Producer Geoff Imrie and Co-Producer Alex Becconsall. Carmel and Geoff Imrie produce through their company, Let It Be Entertainment.

Primitive War 2 is currently in late development, with production targeting a 2027 release. Deals with many of the same international buyers and studios are currently being closed along with new expansions. Casting is underway and additional production details will be announced at a later date.

PRIMITIVE WAR – Review

Given the description of a war movie that found itself in a dinosaur movie is pretty accurate. Luke Sparke’s PRIMITIVE WAR, while well acted, written, and directed, still knows not to take itself too seriously. The movie is set in Vietnam War era, and while, yes, it uses every military stereotype and trope out there, still somehow gets you into the mood for what’s going down. It gets going immediately, and the pace never lets up. You do get moments of exposition, but they are brief, and relevant.

Based on the popular sci-fi novel by Ethan Pettus, the film stars Ryan Kwanten (“True Blood”), Tricia Helfer (“Battlestar Galactica,” “Lucifer”), Nick Wechsler (“The Boys”) and Jeremy Piven (“Entourage”). The affable cast gives us every reason to like them, and be sad when anything happens to them.

It’s two and a half hours, but you won’t notice it when watching. The pacing is perfect. And you do get what you want… dinosaurs, and LOTS of them. None of the philosophical musings or weird reasons for why they exist, like in the Jurassic Park/World franchise… these are just there, and, while the reasons for this are very sci-fi, you feel you’re seeing a military vs creatures movie in the same vein as PREDATOR and DOG SOLDIERS. Composer Frederik Wiedmann provides an emotional score and cinematographer Wade Muller’s raw immersive photography, shot on the Gold Coast, Australia, with a mostly local crew, sprawling sets and real jungle locations puts the audience in the middle of Vulture Squad’s thrilling journey with the dinosaurs.

Go see it. PRIMITIVE WAR is a blast.

Fathom Entertainment Brings U.S. Theatrical Release Of Luke Sparke’s Dinosaur Vietnam War Thriller PRIMITIVE WAR Starting August 21

Fathom Entertainment announced the company will distribute to theatres nationwide director Luke Sparke’s latest film, Primitive War. Receiving one million trailer views within the first 24 hours of its debut, the highly anticipated dinosaur Vietnam War film was screened at San Diego Comic-Con on July 25.

Featuring Ryan Kwanten (“True Blood”), Tricia Helfer (“Battlestar Galactica,” “Lucifer”), Nick Wechsler (“The Boys”) and Jeremy Piven (“Entourage”), the film will come to theatres nationwide beginning August 21.

Known for his gritty, suspenseful directing style, Luke Sparke’s latest film, Primitive War, takes place during the Vietnam War in 1968. A search and rescue team known as “Vulture Squad” is sent to an isolated jungle valley to uncover the fate of a missing Green Beret platoon. As they hunt through the primordial depths of the valley, they discover ancient horrors that not only threaten to unravel their minds but also to end their lives . Dinosaurs have somehow been unleashed, and when the casualties mount, the members of “Vulture Squad” must abandon their human nature and give in to their savage instincts in order to survive…

Primitive War is the latest feature film from director Luke Sparke, known for his 2021 film ”Occupation: Rainfall,” a New York Times pick for their Top 5 Action Films to Stream, making him one to watch. His last film, Scurry, made its festival world premiere in September at the 2024 Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival, winning the “Audience Choice Award.” The film was shot in Queensland, Australia, at the Sparke Films studio on the Gold Coast, in real-time using only one take. It made its market premiere at AFM on Tuesday, November 5, to fan acclaim.
