Rosario Dawson, Steve Coogan, and ‘Percy Jackson’

Rosario Dawson and Steve Coogan have jumped on board the Greek mythology, adventure film ‘Percy Jackson’ for Fox 2000.   They join a cast that already has Catherine Keener, Pierce Brosnan, Uma Thurman, Sean Bean, Kevin McKidd, Melina Kanakaredes, Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario and Brandon T. Jackson.

Directed by Chris Columbus, ‘Percy Jackson’ tells the story of Poseidon’s half-human son, Percy, who finds himself in adventures in modern America.   The film is being adapted from Rick Riordan’s best-selling series of novels.

Dawson will be playing Persephone, the imprisoned wife of Hades, which is being played by Coogan.

The film is currently being shot in Vancouver for a February 12th, 2010 release.

Danny DeVito navigates ‘Charlotte Doyle’

Danny DeVito has written and will be directing the feature film adaptation of ‘The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle’ … about [a daring teen who makes a trans-Atlantic crossing from England to America in the 1830s and finds herself caught between a charismatic but ruthless captain and a mutinous crew. Brosnan will play the captain and Freeman plays the ship’s cook, who guides the young woman through the journey.] — Variety.com

The film will star Saorise Ronan as the title character along side Morgan Freeman and Pierce Brosnan. This will be the first time DeVito has returned to the “young adult” genre of film since 1996 when he made the big-screen adaptation of Roald Dahl’s ‘Matilda’. Shooting begins in September 2008.
