WE BOUGHT A ZOO Hits Theaters December 23

20th Century Fox To Preview WE BOUGHT A ZOO On Thanksgiving Weekend

STUDIO TEAMS WITH “TOUT” TO ENGAGE ATTENDEES VIA SOCIAL MEDIA, CONTEST, AND AN ONLINE CHAT WITH DIRECTOR CAMERON CROWE

Moviegoers will get an early Christmas gift, when Twentieth Century Fox holds nationwide sneaks of its holiday picture WE BOUGHT A ZOO, on Saturday, November 26th – four weeks ahead of its December 23rd bow.

Commented Oren Aviv, the Studio’s president and chief marketing officer, and Tony Sella, its president and chief creative officer: “Once in a while, we’re lucky enough to have a picture to which audiences of all kinds and all ages respond so strongly, that it demands a big and unexpected event. WE BOUGHT A ZOO is that kind of picture – and Thanksgiving is a great time to share it via this special very early preview.”

The unprecedented lead time between a nationwide preview and the release of the film reflects the Studio’s confidence that director Cameron Crowe’s picture, which weaves together warmth, laughter, loss and a spirit of optimism, will generate excellent word of mouth. Test screenings of the film in both major cities and the heartland have produced exceptional responses across wide-ranging demographics, so the Studio is using one family holiday to prime the release for the next holiday.

The Studio is partnering with the social media service TOUT for a “TOUT Takeover,” in which sneaks attendees can TOUT their reviews of the film, and present their own experiences involving “20 Seconds of Courage” – playing off a key theme of WE BOUGHT A ZOO. (One lucky TOUT entry will win a trip for four, to the San Diego Zoo’s “Ultimate Zoo Experience.”) The preview’s robust social media outreach will also include a live chat with Cameron Crowe following the film’s showings.

Cameron Crowe stated, “I think I’m the one getting the early holiday gift, because I’m really excited about these sneaks. Holding previews so far ahead of our opening is a bold move – but that’s one of the many reasons I like it. I couldn’t be prouder of WE BOUGHT A ZOO and of the cast and crew that came along with me on this journey. And I’m looking forward to chatting with audiences online following the sneaks.”

WE BOUGHT A ZOO is a funny, inspiring and true story about the power of family to persevere in the face of extraordinary challenges. Starring Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson and Thomas Haden Church, the film is about a single dad (Damon) who, looking to give his family a much-needed fresh start, moves to a home situated in the middle of a zoo, which he and his two children will attempt to bring back to its once glorious state. Crowe co-wrote the screenplay withAline Brosh McKenna, based on the book “We Bought a Zoo: The Amazing True Story of a Young Family, a Broken Down Zoo and the 200 Zoo Animals that Changed Their Lives Forever” by Benjamin Mee. The producers are Julie Yorn, Cameron Crowe and Rick Yorn.

‘Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant’ Trailer Gets a Little Freaky

cirque du freak

Evidently, I didn’t get the memo that vampire is the new black.   Everything that has ever been connected to the vampire sub-genre is getting a revitalization for the big screen.   Mix that with the idea of bringing a series of novels to feature film life, and you’ve got a perfect pitch for a studio to jump on.

Enter ‘Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant.’   Yeah, it’s a lengthy title.   In fact, it derives its name from the first two books of the series of books by Darren Shan.   The story centers on a young boy (Shan in a fictitious past) who is taken in by a vampire, a member of a traveling group of freaks.

Today, we bring you the trailer for the movie.   Check it out:

It looks like a fun bit of entertainment, full of Hollywood-riffic sight gags, familiar faces, and plenty of CG.   It’s a little bothersome that John C. Reilly doesn’t come off as the cultivated vampire lead you might expect.   It’s a little distracting, in fact.   Let’s just say he’s no Bill Compton and leave it at that.   Regardless, it could be a whole lot of fun, and, if the film is any kind of success, look for the ‘Cirque Du Freak’ franchise to take off.

‘Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant’ is set for release on October 23rd.

‘The Horsemen’ Trailer

Hey, did you hear the one about the serial killer who killed his victims based on the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse? Â  Yeah, it wasn’t that funny, anyway.

‘The Horsemen’ stars Dennis Quaid as a recently widowed detective on the trail of said serial killer. Â  It comes to us from Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes, whose recent film ‘The Unborn’ was the first non-remake they had in release.

You can check out the trailer for ‘The Horsemen’ right here:

The film was directed by Jonas Akerlund (‘Spun’) and also stars Ziyi Zhang, Clifton Collins Jr., Patrick Fugit, Eric Balfour, and Peter Stormare. Â  It goes into limited release on March 13th.

The trailer came from Trailer Addict, but thanks go out to Alex over at First Showing for giving us the heads up.

Patrick Fugit rumored as next ‘Spidey’

For anyone wondering whether the Spider-man franchise still has any steam left, it appears the 4th and 5th installments are still in the works. Producers Laura Ziskin and Grant Curtis appear to be discussing who the next Peter Parker (aka Spider-man) will be, now that Tobey Maguire has had his fill of being a superhero.

Thanks to El Mayimbe over at LatinoReview.com, we have a few names to throw out … No offers have benn made yet, but it seems their top pick would be Patrick Fugit. I think Fugit has quality enough acting to pull off Parker/Spidey and he’s definitely got the right look. His resume includes roles satisfying performances in Almost Famous, Spun, The Moguls and Wristcutters: A Love Story.
