‘The Expendables’ Banner and Teaser Poster… Semper Fi(ght)!

Lionsgate has released two pieces of art for the Sylvester Stallone-directed, everyone who is badass-acted actioner ‘The Expendables.’   Along with the pretty sweet banner you see above, they have also released this poster:

Not sure whose back that is.   I can narrow it down by one by saying it’s not mine.   Pretty sure it’s not anyone else who works for We Are Movie Geeks.   That leaves about 3 billion possibilities for who it could be.

It’s a pretty cool poster, but it reminds me of the opening credits for “Sons of Anarchy.”   What do you think?

‘The Expendables’ comes out on April 23rd, 2010.

First ‘Iron Man 2’ Pic of Downey in the Suit

ironman21

Last Week, we brough you the first pic from ‘Iron Man 2,’ which you see above. Â  Today, we off you the first pic of Robert Downey, Jr. in his Iron Man suit.

Check it out:

As with the first pic, this doesn’t really offer much in the way of eye-opening visuals from the set. Â  However, just seeing these pics and knowing Favreau and crew are hard at work on the film gets the movie geeks excited for this film.

‘Iron Man 2’ is set for release on May 7th, 2010.

‘The Expendables’ Gets an Explosive Behind-the-Scenes Clip

expendables1

That shot better be at the tippy top of the poster for this movie.   That’s all I’m saying.

Today, we bring you a nice, little clip of Sylvester Stallone directing ‘The Expendables.’Â   It’s an entertaining clip in and of itself, and it features a nice, slo-mo shot of that pic we saw a few weeks back of Steve Austin and Eric Roberts jumping away from a giant fireball.

Check out the clip right here:

Blu-Ray Review: ‘The Wrestler’

wrestlernew1

The Wrestler was one of my favorite movies of last year. In fact, when sending in my Top 10 list a while back, I kept debating whether to put this or The Dark Knight first. I am still amazed by Mickey Rourke’s performance and pretty much everything else about this movie. I do not understand how this film was not nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. If you have not seen this film, go out and rent or buy it immediately.

I recently received the Blu-Ray of The Wrestler and while it should have many more special features, the 2 featurettes it comes with are pretty cool. The behind the scenes documentary called Within The Ring was fairly informative and pretty entertaining. It offered some candid moments from set and interviews with Darren Aronofsky, as well as other crew and some wrestlers. As a filmmaker, I love this stuff, especially when done well. There is a lot of behind the scenes footage shown and it is not just mostly talking heads. The second extra, Wrestler Round Table, will appeal much more to fans of wrestling but it was interesting to hear opinions of the film from some legendary professional wrestlers. The final extra is a so-so music video for Bruce Springsteen’s great song The Wrestler, which plays during the end credits of the film.

I have to say that I love the picture quality of the film on the disc. No they did not clean it up. It is grainy and not the usual ultra smooth looking Blu-Ray. This helps the film retain the gritty feeling it had in theaters. And for anyone who wants to claim it’s just a bad picture transfer, it is not. You can tell this by the very deep blacks, which have no more noise then the rest of the image. Some people may not like this but I really enjoyed it. My setup is in no way suitable to judge the audio but it sounded crisp to me. The final addition is that you get a Digital Copy of the film (which works on both Macs and PCs) for anyone who likes that.

Overall, this is a fantastic film and you should definitely find some way to watch it as soon as possible.  There will probably be a Special edition released sometime down the line for both the DVD and Blu-Ray, hopefully with many more bonus features and commentary.  Despite the lack of extras, I highly recommend this Blu-Ray.

New, Official Pics from ‘The Expendables’

expendables1

That right there is a hero shot if ever I saw one.   Today, Ethelmae’s Blog, which, from what I hear, is the official blog of ‘The Expendables,’ released the first, official pics of the new awesomness from Sly Stallone.

That pic above is just a sampling of a much larger image.   Check that, and the others out right here:

That second pic of Stallone and Statham just makes me want to end the world as soon as this film comes out, because there will be nothing greater afterwards.   Statham even holds a Nikon menacingly, and I don’t know how.

Somehow, it slipped through my brain patterns that Steve Austin was even in this film, and you see him right there above jumping from an explosion hand-in-hand with Eric Roberts.   Roberts is looking very Vince McMahon-ish, by the way.   Strange.

‘The Expendables’ comes out on April 23rd, 2010.   The world ends April 24th.

Robert Downey Jr talks about ‘Iron Man 2’

robert-downey-iron-man

“The film is almost entirely about character, and yet we still have twice as much action as we did last time, so it’s going to be nuts.”

Those were Robert Downey, Jr’s words about ‘Iron Man 2,’ which begins filming on Monday.   Downey was speaking with Entertainment Tonight when the subject about what to expect from the sequel came up.

“Essentially ‘Iron Man 2’ is about looking behind the armor, or the armature, of a superhero,” Downey said.   “It’s one thing to say you’re Iron Man, it’s another thing to be fully ready to do that.”

Downey also made mention of Scarlett Johansson, who will be playing the Russian assassin, Black Widow, in the film.

“We’ve been rehearsing and she’s in insane shape. She’s getting lean and mean.”

‘Iron Man 2,’ which also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Jon Favreau, Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell, and Sam Jackson, comes out on May 7th, 2010.

This Week: Mickey Rourke In ‘Iron Man 2’

mickeyrourkebh

Mickey Rourke and ‘Iron Man 2’ seem to be yo-yoing worse than The Smucker’s Brothers Smothers Brothers.   If you don’t understand that reference, you’re probably less than 75-years-old.   One week, he’s in.   The next week, he’s out.   One week he’s back in.   The next week, he’s wrestling Chris Jericho…and he’s out.   This week, he seems to be back in, if the video below has anything to say about it.

“You bet your ass!”???   Who knows what that really means when coming from Rourke’s lips to God’s ears.   If, in fact, negotiations with Marvel are back on, it’s no shock in our court.   A few weeks back we brought you news that Marvel had brought Sam Jackson back onto the project, and that news came only a week or two after Marvel announced a record fourth quarter for themselves.

So, apparently Marvel found a few more hundies under their ripped up pillow, and they’re finally deciding to beef up their ‘Iron Man 2’ cast.

Who knows what next week will bring?   We’ll keep you posted.   When we know, you’ll know.

Danny Trejo takes on ‘The Expendables’

dannytrejoexpend

Holy Cow! Stallone’s newest action-fest is proving to be one heckuva cool project. Having already scored Jet Li, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Forest Whitaker, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Randy Couture and just recently Arnold Schwarzenegger… now, according to a source for LatinoReview.com, Sly has apparently enlisted badass Danny Trejo as well! No word on what his character will be, but odds are good he’ll be a baddie.

As an added bonus to spike the spice on this juicy bit of forthcoming violent cinematic bliss… IMDB also lists the following casting rumors: Sandra Bullock (I think this one has already been squelched) and Sir Ben Kingsley!

Mickey Rourke Out of ‘Iron Man 2’

mickeyrourkebh

“Right now, we’re not doing ‘Iron Man 2’.

Those were the grim words Mickey Rourke told Vulture over at New York Magazine this week at Bryant Park.

There is no word as to the reasoning behind Rourke saying this, but pay seems to be the main reason if you listen to the rumors out there.   If that is the case, for shame, Paramount and Marvel.   This guy deserves a decent paycheck if he is going to be your main villain.   If it’s going to be more of a cameo appearance, than okay, maybe Rourke shouldn’t be taking those parts, anyway, but it sure seemed a few months back that he was up for a major role.

We’ll just have to wait and see if a deal can get worked out or if Rourke’s time on ‘Iron Man 2’ is over before it even got started.
