‘Transformers 2’ Gets Full Title

Oh boy,We do have breaking news for you die hard Transformers fans! DreamWorks has confirmed to ComingSoon that the full title for Michael Bay’s “Transformers” sequel will be “Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen.”

The movie began shooting on June 2nd in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. While details of the movie’s plot a closely-guarded secret, expect a key character from the first movie to make a dramatic comeback and attempt to settle a score.

Some of the potential characters that could make their return to get revenge are Megatron, Starscream, Jazz and Bernie Mac. Maybe not Mac.

“Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen” is scheduled to hit theaters on June 26th, 2009.

Michael Bay is jerking us around …

So, we all know about the Transformers sequel, but how much do we really know? We’ve seen what may seem to some quite a bit of information leaked from insiders about Transformers 2, which leapt almost immediately from the first movie’s box office domination to a very quickly completed script and lots of “rumors” about details, incuding which new Decepticons will be seen and who’ll be cast. Well, apparently none of its true … we think? Michael Bay has publicly denied all of it on his website:

“Sorry everyone, everything you are reading (other then we are shooting in Philly) is false,† says Bay on his website. “We are going to give so much disinformation on this film to confuse everyone.† [source: slashfilm.com]

What the heck? I understand keeping tight lips on production, but what’s with the outright lying … if that’s the “actual” truth? Bay already has plenty of critics, does he really want to encourage more negativity? Anyway, I realize this is a photo from the first movie’s production, but I find it funny that he’s standing in front of a big green construction tractor.

Update: Englund Shrugs Off Freddy Krueger Recasting

As a footnote to Travis’ earlier post, Italian horror site Bad Taste has an interview with Robert Englund where he comments on the remake’s decision to exclude him from the character role he made famous. From the interview:

“I consider the original version of Nightmare On Elm Street a classic of this genre, but I think there is always room for new interpretations by using the new technology. In the past, they were talking about a prequel. Anyway, I’m too old for this new version, otherwise it would be Freddie Vs. Viagra…”

He goes on to say he respects Michael Bay, having seen and enjoyed Transformers with his son, and that he wouldn’t rule out the possibility of a cameo in the Nightmare remake. Perhaps directing his own upcoming horror project, The Viji, is keeping his mind off things.

A Nightmare On Elm Street isn’t the only Wes Craven film getting the remake treatment. According to Fangoria, Last House On The Left has just finished casting and will be produced by Craven along with Sean S. Cunningham (Friday the 13th – The original. And the remake. Sigh.).

Remember this moment, movie geeks. Remember this moment 30 years from now when your children, or your children’s children ask you about a time in the cinematic world where there were these things called original ideas. And you can laugh and tell them how Michael Bay killed those things for good in the year 2008, or how maybe they were always just an illusion, and then you can sit down together and watch Last House On The Left 21, or Rambo 57 or the remake of the prequel of the sequel to the direct to DVD adaptation of the video game of Jaws 3-D. Damn it all.

Michael Bay to remake all of 1974-1984

First it was the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake and its series prequel, TCM: The Beginning.   Now, following up the Friday the 13th remake scheduled to start shooting this May, Variety is reporting that Michael Bay is officially going forward with his A Nightmare On Elm Street remake.   Planning to revitalize the almost 24 year old franchise (by pretending it never happened), Bay’s production company Platinum Dunes will be teaming up with current property owners New Line Cinema to start the saga of undying murderer Freddy Krueger all over again.   If things go well, no doubt sequels will follow,   inevitably leading us another twenty years into the future where one can only hope the robotic form of Michael Bay will remake them all again.

No word yet on whether Robert Englund will reprise his career defining role as Freddy, or if Kane Hodder will be screwed over yet again in the Friday the 13th remake.
