Jonathan Rhys Meyers Is The Clash’s Joe Strummer In First Photo From LONDON TOWN

JonathanRhysMeyers_LONDONTOWN

Here’s a first look at Jonathan Rhys Meyers as The Clash’s Joe Strummer in director Derrick Borte’s LONDON TOWN.

In 1970s London, a 14 year old boy is introduced to The Clash by his estranged mother and it changes his life forever.

Strummer died suddenly at age 50 on December 22, 2002 in his home at Broomfield in Somerset, England, from an undiagnosed congenital heart defect. Rolling Stone voted London Calling, the Clash’s classic 1980 album (released in 1979 in the UK) as the best album of the Eighties. Their 1982 song Should I Stay Or Should I Go was their biggest US hit.

The coming-of-age drama is written by Kirsten Sheridan, Sonya Gildea and Matt Brown (director of THE MAN WHO KNEW INFINITY) and produced by Tom Butterfield, Sofia Sondervan and Christine Vachon.

Daniel Huttlestone (INTO THE WOODS) also stars.

Radiant Films International and Cargo Entertainment are handling foreign rights to the film and are currently showing a new promo at AFM.

New Poster For Roland Emmerich’s STONEWALL

Stonewall_Final

Roadside Attractions has revealed the brand new poster for STONEWALL.

Roland Emmerich’s upcoming film has been selected as an official Toronto International Film Festival Selection in the World Premiere Category.

STONEWALL is a drama about a fictional young man caught up during the 1969 Stonewall riots. Danny Winters (Jeremy Irvine) is forced to leave behind friends and loved ones when he is kicked out of his parent’s home and flees to New York. Alone in Greenwich Village, homeless and destitute, he befriends a group of street kids who soon introduce him to the local watering hole The Stonewall Inn; however, this shady, mafia-run club is far from a safe-haven.

As Danny and his friends experience discrimination, endure atrocities and are repeatedly harassed by the police, we see a rage begin to build. This emotion runs through Danny and the entire community of young gays, lesbians and drag queens who populate the Stonewall Inn and erupts in a storm of anger. With the toss of a single brick, a riot ensues and a crusade for equality is born.

Written by Jon Robin Baitz (“Brothers & Sisters” creator/writer), STONEWALL is produced by Roland Emmerich (currently filming Independence Day: Resurgence), Michael Fossat, Marc Frydman, and Carsten Lorenz; and executive producers are Kirstin Winkler, Adam Press and Michael Roban.

The film stars Jeremy Irvine (War Horse), Jonny Beauchamp (“Penny Dreadful”), Caleb Landry Jones (X-Men: First Class), Joey King (White House Down) up-and-comers Karl Glusman, Vlademir Alexis, and Alexandre Nachi as well as veteran actor Matt Craven, with Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Match Point, “The Tudors”) and Ron Perlman (Hellboy.)

STONEWALL opens in theaters on September 25, 2015.

Roadside Attractions will release STONEWALL, a drama about the 1969 Stonewall riots that started America’s LGBT rights movement, on September 25, 2015.

Written by Jon Robin Baitz and directed by Roland Emmerich, both out gay men, the film stars Jeremy Irvine and newcomer Jonny Beauchamp, with Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Ron Perlman.

Emmerich, who also produced the film, says, “I was always interested and passionate about telling this important story, but I feel it has never been more timely than right now.” Less than 50 years ago, in 1969, being gay was considered a mental illness; gay people could not be employed by the government; it was illegal for gay people to congregate, and police brutality against gays went unchecked. Today, thanks to the events set in motion by the Stonewall riots, the gay rights movement continues to make incredible strides towards equality. In the past several weeks alone, the Boy Scouts of America has moved to lift its ban on gay leaders, the Pentagon will allow transgender people to serve openly in the military, and SCOTUS has declared that same-sex marriage is legal nationwide in all 50 states.

“It was the first time gay people said ‘Enough!'” explains Emmerich. “They didn’t do it with leaflets or meetings, they took beer bottles and threw them at cops. Many pivotal political moments have been born by violence. If you look at the civil rights movement, at Selma and other events of that kind, it’s always the same thing. Stonewall was the first time gay people stood up and they did it in their own way. Something that really affected me when I read about Stonewall was that when the riot police showed up in their long line, these kids formed their own long line and sang a raunchy song. That, for me, was a gay riot, a gay rebellion.”

“What struck me was that there was a story in there, which I felt had an important message – it’s the people who had the least to lose who did the fighting, not the politically active people. It was the kids that went to this club that consisted of hustlers and Scare Queens, and all kinds of people that you think would never resist the police, and they did it.” And the events they set in motion would have a profound impact on the future.

Written by Jon Robin Baitz (“Brothers & Sisters” creator/writer), STONEWALL is produced by Roland Emmerich (one of Hollywood’s premier filmmakers, currently filming Independence Day: Resurgence, the follow-up to the worldwide smash), Michael Fossat, Marc Frydman, and Carsten Lorenz; and executive producers are Kirstin Winkler, Adam Press and Michael Roban.

The STONEWALL creative team includes Director of Photography, Markus Förderer; Production Designer, Michelle Laliberté; Editor Adam Wolfe; and Costume Designer, Simonetta Mariano.

The film was shot in and around Montreal, including Lachine and Howick, Quebec. Roland Emmerich and his production team re-created “the village” in Manhattan circa 1969 in a former train repair facility in Montreal. The elaborate set included the detailed, authentic recreation of the interior and exterior of the Stonewall Inn and the entire Christopher Street neighborhood. It also featured the largest printed backdrop ever created which added in the final element of the skyline for both daytime and nighttime shots. During the filming of the riot scenes with over 500 extras in period costumes and the detailed recreation of the neighborhood, stepping onto the set was like taking a time machine back to New York City in the late 60’s.

THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES First Trailer

Screen Gems has released the first trailer for the fantasy-action film THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES from director Harald Zwart (THE KARATE KID 2010). The film stars Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Robert Sheehan, Kevin Zegers, Lena Headey, Kevin Durand, Aidan Turner, Jemima West, Godfrey Gao, with CCH Pounder, with Jared Harris, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

It’s really trying to be the next TWILIGHT, isn’t it. Although CCH Pounder and Jared Harris add a little more weight to what could be the next big series for young adults.

Set in contemporary New York City, a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray (Lily Collins), discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother (Lena Headey), Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures.

Based on the worldwide best-selling book series by Cassandra Clare, her Mortal Instruments series is compiled of City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass, City of Fallen Angels, City of Lost Souls, and City of Heavenly Fire. The prequels to the Mortal Instruments series are called The Infernal Devices (Clockwork Angel, Clockwork Prince, and Clockwork Princess). The last book of the Infernal Devices, Clockwork Princess, will be released March 19, 2013.

THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES is in theaters August 23, 2013.

ALBERT NOBBS Trailer Starring Glenn Close

Award winning actress Glenn Close plays a woman passing as a man in order to work and survive in 19th century Ireland in this trailer for ALBERT NOBBS. Some thirty years after donning men’s clothing, she finds herself trapped in a prison of her own making. Mia Wasikowska (Helen), Aaron Johnson (Joe) and Brendan Gleeson (Dr. Holloran) join a prestigious, international cast that includes Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Janet McTeer, Brenda Fricker and Pauline Collins.

The film showed to rave reviews and a bustle of Best Actress Oscar buzz for Close at Telluride Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival in September. The 15th Annual Hollywood Film Festival and Hollywood Film Awards will honor the five-time Oscar nominee with the “Hollywood Career Achievement Award” at the festival’s Hollywood Film Awards Gala Ceremony on October 24, 2011.

Glenn Close’s connection to the character of Albert Nobbs stretches back almost three decades to her 1982 performance in Simone Benmussa’s theatrical interpretation of the short story, Albert Nobbs, by nineteenth century Irish author George Moore. “I think that Albert is one of the truly great characters, and the story, for all its basic simplicity, has a strange emotional power,” begins Close, whose turn in the Off-Broadway production prompted rave reviews and garnered the actress an Obie Award.

Even as Close’s career skyrocketed the character remained with her. “There’s something deeply affecting about Albert’s life,” the actress continues, “She never stopped continuing to move me. I became very busy in my career, but always thought that Albert’s story would make a wonderful movie.”
