‘Red Dawn’ Gains a Comedian

jeffrey dean morgan comedian

From ‘Watchmen’ to Wolverines, it appears Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be joining the cast of the upcoming ‘Red Dawn’ remake.  He told as such to Coming Soon.  Morgan will be joining a cast that already includes Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck, Adrianne Palicki, Josh Hutcherson, Isabel Lucas, Connor Cruise and Edwin Hodge.  Dan Bradley, second unit director on films like ‘Swordfish,’ ‘Spider-Man 2 & 3,’ and ‘Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls,’ will be stepping up into the director’s chair.

Morgan also told Coming Soon who he would be playing in the film:

I guess I’m more or less the old Powers Booth character.  There’s all the kids and Powers Booth is the pilot that lands in the film and kind of helps them take down the bad guys. Blow communism away. It’s a really good, young cast. I’ll be the old guy in it, which is cool.

‘Red Dawn’ begins shooting soon in Detroit, MI with a release date of September 2010 slated.

Morgan also revealed to Coming Soon that he would like to play the lead character in Guy Ritchie’s adaptation of the DC comic ‘Lobo.’  We’ll have more word on that if anything develops.

Christopher Lee returns to Hammer Horror

chistopherlee2

If you haven’t already heard, Hammer Horror, one of the United Kingdom’s oldest production companies and a staple in 60’s and 70’s horror, is making a comeback with a new look and new money.

Hammer Horror’s newest project will be a film called ‘Invasion of Privacy’ (previously titled ‘The Resident’) and will be the debut directorial outing for Antti J. Jokinen. The project will be produced primarily by Simon Oakes, Nigel Sinclair and Guy East.

Legendary genre icon and Hammer Horror veteran Christopher Lee will be making his return to the company’s makeover, starring in the film alongside Hilary Swank and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Plot details are bit vague (intentionally, I’m sure) but, what is known is that the story is about a woman who moves into a loft apartment in Brooklyn after separating from her husband and finds herself in the middle of some “unwanted attention”. Well, whatever that means, but I find it strange that a Hammer Horror movie will be set in Brooklyn? Wow! This IS a new Hammer Horror!

‘Taking Woodstock’ Trailer

demetri-martin

I’m not quite sure what I think about this trailer or about this project in general.   The idea of Ang Lee directing a comedy about Woodstock doesn’t seem all that appealing.   From the trailer, the film looks like a pretty straight comedy.

The film follows the life of Elliot Tiber (Demetri Martin) an aspiring Greenwich Village interior designer whose parents owned a small motel in Upstate New York and at the time held the only musical festival permit in the entire town of Bethel, New York. Tiber offered both the motel and the permit to the Woodstock Festival’s organizers.

The film also focuses on Tiber’s life as a closeted gay man hiding his marijuana as well as sexual orientation from his family, and his self-discovery following the Stonewall Riots.

‘Taking Woodstock’ comes out on August 14th, 2009.

‘WATCHMEN’ – The Unfilmable Comic Comes To Life

watchmen42

Who watches the ‘Watchmen’?

If you’re a Warner Bros. executive, then you hope everyone watches the ‘Watchmen’. It is an expensive, bold endeavor, an adaptation that strives for nothing short of epic. Even the marketing hints at something extraordinary.

The graphic novel transcended its contemporaries. Will the film do the same?

I have seen the movie but my review is embargoed until the film’s release. I can tell you only one thing for certain: You should see this movie.

‘Watchmen’ Director’s Cut May Get Theatrical Release

watchmen34

We haven’t talked about ‘Watchmen’ yet today, have we?   Oh, we did?   Oh well, there’s even more news coming your way.   Zack Snyder attended a taping of “MTV Spoilers” where he answered questions about the film.   Among the things he talked about was his director’s cut.   Here’s what he had to say.

“The director’s cut is three hours and 10 minutes and comes out in July,” Snyder revealed, calling his original edit “considerably more violent than this … and sexier” and explaining that if the movie does well, the director’s cut will get a theatrical release in Los Angeles and New York.

Wait! What!?!?   The ‘Watchmen’ Director’s Cut might get a theatrical release?   Granted, it’s only on LA and NYC, but, if that does well, you never know how wide of a release it might get.   Here’s hoping and keeping our fingers crossed.

Also, Entertainment Weekly’s issue this week (on sale today) features six different, collector’s covers featuring different ‘Watchmen’ characters one each one.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan to Star in ‘The Resident’

Jeffrey Dean Morgan (‘P.S. I Love You’ and ‘Watchmen’) is going to be the breakout star from ‘Watchmen’. Â  I have a gut feeling. Â  He has signed on to star once again alongside Hilary Swank in the thriller ‘The Resident’. Â  Antti J. Jokinen is directing from his own screenplay.

The film  centers on a young doctor (Swank) who moves into a loft in Brooklyn where mysterious occurrences lead her to suspect that she is not alone in her home. She discovers that her seemingly charming landlord (Morgan) has developed a dangerous obsession with her, resulting in a terrifying game of cat and mouse.

The film is the feature debut for the Finish Jokinen, who has previously directed music videos for  Beyonce, Shania Twain and Will Smith.

Now comes the real question. Â  Is Hilary Swank hot or not? Â  You decide.
