inglouriousbasterdsvf

There are some new photos from ‘Inglourious Basterds’ as well as info about the movie premiering at Cannes film festival in May.

Apparently Cannes extended an offer to allow Quentin Tarantino to premier his WWII flick at the film festival and he has accepted. That is great news for the die hard fans because we are guaranteed that it will done by the opening date of August 21st 2009.

They also all recently posed for Vanity Fair magazine, and the photos look pretty good. Not as gritty as they should, but solid. Thanks to FSR for the heads up on the photos..Check them out below:

Post-Oscars Film Footage Here

oscar3

Hope you didn’t turn off the Oscar’s broadcast just as soon as Steven Spielberg pronounced the first “s” in ‘Slumdog Millionaire’.   If you did, however, you missed some pretty exciting footage of upcoming movies.   I love that they did this.   I really hope it turns into an annual tradition to reveal first-ever seen footage over the end credits of the Academy Awards.   For those of you who did miss out on this footage, here it is for your viewing pleasure:

‘Public Enemies’ and ‘Amelia’ look excellent.   Can’t wait for ‘Sherlock Holmes’, either.

Enzo Castellari Reveals His Character in ‘Basterds’, Gives Away a Major Spoiler, Too

ingloriousbasterdslogo

The director of the original ‘Inglorious Bastards’, Enzo G. Castellari, sat down with Italian magazine “Il Venerdà ¬ di Repubblica† where he spoke on the character he is playing in Tarantino’s remake.

“I play a Nazi General in the movie. In one scene we are in Paris, during the War. And I have to take a lady into a movie theater. Inside the theater there are all the big nazis, like Joseph Gobbels. They are there to see a new propaganda movie, called Stolz der Nation (The pride of a Country) – that actually is a movie inside our movie, directed by Eli Roth and played by Bo Svenson, my actor in the first Inglourious Basterds.

At the screening, you also meet the famous German actress Bridget Von Hammermark (Diane Kruger) and a small group of people who introduce themselves as Italian filmmakers. Brad Pitt says his name is Enzo Girolami, †¦ and that is my real name! Right in that moment, I am in the same shot, behind Brad!”

Castellari also went on to reveal a pretty major spoiler for the film.   To read what else he had to say, click this link.

This film couldn’t come soon enough!

‘Inglourious Basterds’ trailer companion

So the teaser trailer is officially here for ‘Inglorious Basterds’, the long awaited Quentin Tarantino WWII epic. Since most people have NO IDEA what this movie is about I am going to set the record straight with this trailer companion piece. If you havent seen the trailer yet go HERE.

First, the movie is centered around Aldo Raine(Brad Pitt), an American hillbilly from Tennessee who puts together a team of 8 other American soldiers to take down the Nazi’s. When you watch the trailer and you ask yourself, “Why doesn’t he have a German accent? Are they pulling a Tom Cruise in ‘Valkyrie’?” the answer is no, he is not supposed to have a German accent because he is from Tennessee. As you can see from the above photo he also has a large rope burn on his neck, which will not be revealed why in the movie. One would assume he has escaped some type of hanging or lynching.

Here is a breakdown on the other main players in the movie:

Eli Roth(Yes, THAT Eli Roth who brought us ‘Hostel’ and ‘Cabin Fever’) is playing Sgt Donnie Danowitz who later in the trailer you can see taking a bat to some gnarly nazi bastard basterd! I cant wait to see how crazy Eli plays this character. Just check out this shot of him:

onto the rest..

Is that B.J. Novak? The guy that stars and writes for ‘The Office’? Why yes it is! This is only one of the big surprises we should expect as Tarantino also casted Mike Meyers as Gen. Ed Fenech who I did not catch in the trailer.

Some of the other cast members:

Yes that guy was big when he was a kid, but Tarantino has tapped him previously for ‘Grindhouse’ as Omar in both ‘Planet Terror’ and ‘Death Proof’.

The ‘Freaks and Geeks’ Kid, Samm Levine. He has seen the rounds since the end of ‘Freaks and Geeks’ and has made a bunch of 1 off show appearances.

This guy really is German, but is playing an Austrian soldier for Tarantino.

Some of the other super badass stuff from the trailer:

Crazy Machine Gunner:

Eli Roth wielding a bat:

You haven’t seen war until you have seen it through the eyes of Quentin Tarantino:

And the best part of the trailer:

‘Basterds’ Gets an Official Release Date

Let’s get to it! Â  Quentin Tarantino’s WWII film ‘Inglourious Basterds’ will be released on August 21, 2009. Â  Harvey Weinstein and David Linde, co-chairman of Universal who is partnering with the Weinsteins on the film, made the announcement yesterday.

TWC and Universal are co-financing and co-presenting the film with TWC handling domestic distribution and Universal handling international distribution. International release dates will be announced shortly.

Tarantino promised last May that the film would be ready to show at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival this coming May.

If you ask me, it’s kind of an odd release date. Â  Not really a Summer release and not really an Oscar season release. Â  I think a late November/early December release would have served it better.

What do you think? Â  Should the film have gotten a Summer 2009 release? Â  Should the Weinsteins and Universal push it harder for some Academy Awards? Â  Do you have any idea why the film is spelled the way it is? Â  Let us know by commenting below!

Sam Jackson Finally Becomes a ‘Basterd’

You knew it was only a matter of time before this news broke. Â  In fact, I’m shocked it took this long to come to fruition. Â  It seems Samuel L. Jackson has signed on for a part in his good buddy Quentin Tarantino’s WWII flick ‘Inglourious Basterds’ (still have to take my time with the spelling there).

We reported back in September that Jackson wanted a part so bad, he called Tarantino to try to work it out. Â  Well now, according to The Playlist, Jackson has landed a part, but not of the Frenchman he wanted before. Â  Instead, he will be the narrator of the film who will pop up from time to time throughout the film to add background information.

The Playlist also mentions that Maggie Cheung has signed up for the part of a French matron of a Cinematheque. Â  Yes, she’s Chinese, but, evidently, she speaks fluent French. Â  A Chinese woman living in WWII era France wouldn’t be the weirdest thing Tarantino has ever devised.
