Will Samuel L. Jackson become Tarantino’s “Frenchie”

Another tiny bit of Tarantino gold has sifted through the dust from the recent rush of rumors circling his newest project ‘Inglorious Bastards’ whereas he’s apparently had conversations with Jackson about playing a role in the two-part WWII remake of the original 1978 film by Enzo Castellari. The movie will surely vary immensely from it’s source material, but in a good way. If anyones seen the special features on the 3-disc edition DVD of the original, you’ve seen how big of a fan Tarantino is of this film during his conversation with Enzo. Definitely worth a look, if you haven’t.

In the interview with MTV News, Jackson had this to say:

[“I called him to find out if I had to learn French or not!† Jackson laughed when we asked him this week, insisting that he’d love to reteam with QT once again. “Because the only black person in the script spoke French.†

He said, “so do you know any black French actors?† I said, “what the f***?!? Yeah, me!† I gave him the name of some guys. So yeah we had a small conversation about it. We’ll see what happens. I thought the script was a lot of fun.]

Quentin Tarantino and the female bastard…

Mr. Tarantino has been all over the place with his castings for ‘Inglorious Bastards’, and things are starting to come out about the female lead for the movie. Apparently he is in talks with Melanie Laurent to play Shoshana Dreyfus.

Melanie hasnt been in very many American movies, so her resume would look pretty foreign to you as she is from France. You can check her out on IMDB though… thanks to AICN for the heads up.

‘Inglorious Bastards’ teaser …

This could be fan made, but who cares… its bad ass and it makes us even more eager for this upcoming Tarantino war flick.

There is also some news about the director of photography for the movie.

from JoBlo: “Robert Richardson is serving as director of photography. As a point of reference, Richardson has been a go-to guy for cinematography on numerous movies from Martin Scorsese (CASINO, THEÂ  AVIATOR) and Oliver Stone (PLATOON, and pretty much everything else he’s done), not to mention Tarantino’s KILL BILL vol. 1 and 2.”

I loved the look and feel of ‘Kill Bill’ 1 and 2, not to mention Robert Richardson also worked on ‘Platoon’. Prepare yourselves for one of the greatest war flicks of our time!

Pegg Trading in ‘Bastards’ for a ‘Superbad’ Director

In news that will surely dissapoint many, Simon Pegg has decided to bow out of appearing in Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Inglorious Bastards’.   Tarantino is rushing ‘Bastards’ into production in October, and Pegg ran into scheduling issues.

“We really tried to make it work, but in the end, it was just not possible without severe ramifications elsewhere,” Pegg wrote on his blog. “I’m trying to remain upbeat, as Tom Selleck said, ‘Who the hell is Indiana Jones anyway?'”

The good news on the Simon Pegg front, however, is that his next film, ‘Paul’, has aquired a director.   Greg Mottola, who directed last year’s ‘Superbad’, will helm the Pegg and Nick Frost written comedy.   The film follows two British comic book geeks who get into an adventure across America.   Unlike ‘Shaun of the Dead’ and ‘Hot Fuzz’, Frost will be the lead this time around with Pegg serving as the sidekick.

Mandatory Inglorious Bastards Update

Okay, since it got a lot of press in the trades today, here’s a quick recap of what’s new for Tarantino’s upcoming feature, courtesy of Variety and Hollywood Reporter:

As you’ve heard, Brad Pitt’s officially on now, and he’s playing a soldier from Tennessee who’s the leader of the film’s gang of Jewish American soldiers.   Nastassja Kinski (Paris, Texas) is in talks to play a German movie star in the film, BJ Novak (The Office) is still in talks to play one of Pitt’s soldiers alongside Eli Roth who’s playing Sgt. Donnie Donowitz, and Simon Pegg is in talks to be a British Lieutenant in the film.   Tim Roth is officially out now in regards to a major role, thanks to his obligations to the upcoming work on the TV Series “Lie To Me“.   Lawrence Bender is producing despite the old bad blood between him and Tarantino, and he’s currently scouting locations in Berlin.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Pitt’s role in the film is one of Tarantino’s typically loquacious hardass characters, like if Jules Winnfield from Pulp Fiction was really into killing Nazis.   However, Variety is saying a lot of the film’s dialogue is going to be in French and German with subtitles, so that ought to temper some of the Tarantino action geeks’ adulations with a little forced on-screen reading.

So there, if you weren’t caught up before you are now.   Cool?   Cool.

Quentin Tarantino presents ‘Inglourious Basterds’ ?

Yes, that is right… the script floating around for this movie has the title of ‘Inglorious Basterds’, not ‘Bastards’ like previously noted. From MTV:

“For those of you who are skim-reading, allow me to reiterate the title: “Inglorious Basterds.† That’s right, the latest version of the script that has been leaked apparently has foregone spellcheck, not only on the title page, in what is supposedly Tarantino’s frantic handwriting, but also throughout the script. One hypothesis notes his bid to get it entered into the next Cannes Film Festival, which would explain skipping the proofread. Or is Tarantino’s unusual spelling technique all part of some masterful plan? Time will tell.”

Weird. I don’t know why the name change, but hits Tarantino, we don’t question his genius!

Tarantino wants Brad Pitt for ‘Inglorious Bastards’

Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Brad Pitt is in talks with Quentin Tarantino for ‘Inglorious Bastards’! This story goes right along with Michelle’s from yesterday..

“I’ve confirmed Quentin Tarantino is talking to Brad Pitt to star in Inglorious Bastards,  the writer/director’s  newly unveiled script being shopped right now to 4 Hollywood studios: Universal, Warner Bros, Paramount and Sony. And Harvey Weinstein will produce it with Lawrence Bender…”

How do you guys feel about Brad Pitt being in the next huge Tarantino movie? Honestly I am pretty excited about it, because I love Brad Pitt, and I think Tarantino could make him a badass like Tyler Durden again…

Tarantino Unveils ‘Inglorious Bastards’ To 4 Hollywood Studios

from Deadline Hollywood Daily:Â

LA Weekly’s Nikke Finke has  another exclusive – this time on  Quentin’s next film!

Quentin Tarantino has just gone  out with  his long-anticipated script about World War II. But here’s the weird thing sources are telling me: not only is Laurence Bender attached to produce Inglorious Bastards, but there’s also “a possibility” that Harvey Weinstein will be producing as well  but not financing it. This certainly adds fuel to those rumors that The Weinstein Co  is having movie money woes. grondhouse1.jpgAfter all, one of the ways that The Weinstein Co attracted investors  was by hyping its creative connection to the Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill 1 & 2 writer/director who  has long made a lot of money for a lot of people. But now only Harv, and not his investors, could potentially profit from the connection? Unreal. And let’s not forget that The Weinsten Co  produced and financed Quentin’s last pic Grindhouse/Death Proof that tanked at the domestic box office because of Weinstein’s own admission that he erred in releasing it  in the U.S. market  as half of a too-long 3-hour, 12-minute double-feature.

This  latest Tarantino epic, originally for Miramax and originally set for 2001, has been so long in the works that some people thought it might never see the light of day. Tarantino himself has described it as a Spaghetti Western meets World II film that’s an homage to the Dirty Dozen with a  story about a group of soldiers on their way to be executed who  get the chance of a reprieve.  I hear it’s gone out to  Universal, Warner Bros, Paramount (all yesterday) and Sony (today). As usual, there’s a lot of secrecy surrounding this Quentin project sent out by William Morris.

‘Inglorious Bastards’ will be made into 2 films!

Some new for you Tarantino freaks (like myself) … ‘Inglorious Bastards’ will be split into two films!

aint it cool brings us this:

“The first big thing we learn is that Quentin has been writing almost non-stop on INGLORIOUS BASTARDS – and that the premise is the basic jumping off point from Enzo’s original – that you had a bunch of hardened criminals on a military transport during World War II – that got ambushed by the Nazis. Everyone but the criminals gets killed and the prisoners decide to make their way to neutral Switzerland – and must fight the Nazis and the Allies to get there. It’s a true No Man’s Land scenario.

“Well, as Quentin has been writing this – he’s done so much research into the actual events of World War II as well as the cinema of World War 2 – that the story kept growing and growing. It became too big for one film – so he’s turned it into 2. That’s right, INGLORIOUS BASTARDS will be two movies… not unlike KILL BILL.”

DAMN! That is some very exciting news..a double dose of this WWII epic that he has been promising for all these years.
