From Warner Bros. Pictures comes the action thriller RUN ALL NIGHT, starring Oscar nominee Liam Neeson, Joel Kinnaman, Vincent D’Onofrio, Oscar winner Common and Oscar nominee Ed Harris, under the direction of Jaume Collet-Serra (“Non-Stop”).

Brooklyn mobster and prolific hit man Jimmy Conlon (Neeson), once known as The Gravedigger, has seen better days. Longtime best friend of mob boss Shawn Maguire (Harris), Jimmy, now 55, is haunted by the sins of his past—as well as a dogged police detective (D’Onofrio) who’s been one step behind Jimmy for 30 years. Lately, it seems Jimmy’s only solace can be found at the bottom of a whiskey glass.

But when Jimmy’s estranged son, Mike (Kinnaman), becomes a target, Jimmy must make a choice between the crime family he chose and the real family he abandoned long ago. With Mike on the run, Jimmy’s only penance for his past mistakes may be to keep his son from the same fate Jimmy is certain he’ll face himself…at the wrong end of a gun. Now, with nowhere safe to turn, Jimmy just has one night to figure out exactly where his loyalties lie and to see if he can finally make things right.

BIG HERO 6 – The Review

BIG HERO 6

I don’t care who you are, where you are from, or how old you are… Everyone needs a Baymax in their life.

BIG HERO 6 is more than a tale about a young boy. It’s a tale about a boy and his robot. After Hiro Hamada (Ryan Potter) loses his brother Tadashi (Daniel Henney) in, what he thinks is a terrible accident, he turns to a puffy, inflatable personal health care robot named Baymax (Scott Adsit) for comfort… and then for help in seeking truth and revenge. With the help of his robotics loving friends Go Go Tomago (Jamie Chung),  Wasabi (Damon Wayans Jr.), Honey Lemon (Genesis Rodriguez), and Fred (T.J. Miller), they go on a quest to uncover the mystery of what really happened to Tadashi.

If Baymax doesn’t warm your heart with his soft, cushy waddle and dry, innocent jokes then you might want to check your pulse… or get your very own personal health care companion, because you clearly need it. Disney stayed true to their new theme of steering away from princess romance tales (BRAVE, WRECK-IT RALPH, FROZEN) and present audiences with a story about family and friendship. BIG HERO 6 isn’t a revenge story, although it may seem that way on the surface. Instead, it’s a story filled with love. Disney impressed me, once again, with their ability to go to a dark place and bring something beautiful out of it.

BIG HERO 6

They couldn’t have done a better job with the voice cast. The relationship between the characters of Hiro and Baymax is very organic and natural feeling. Adsit does an incredible job of conveying compassion and care, while also adding some fun to the character. I’m almost positive your kids will never fist-bump the same after seeing this movie. (I’m not telling you why. Go see it for yourself!) T.J. Miller really steals the show when it comes to supporting roles. His improv skills were well lent to Fred, and he added some very light-hearted moments to a story that was, at times, quite dark. I’ll admit that I cried a few times. Aiding the story is a terrific soundtrack with songs by Fall Out Boy and St. Louis band Greek Fire.

One of the most impressive things about this movie is that Disney created a beautiful, make-believe city that I would be completely happy to live in. The city of San Fransokyo (a combination of San Francisco and Tokyo… duh!)is a rich, well detailed world with wondrous architecture, and exquisite skylines. The amount of research they put into their background locations and settings is mind-blowing! Although this film is based on a Marvel comic, Disney made it their own.

BIG HERO 6

If you like action, friendship, humor, and big squishy robot hugs, then BIG HERO 6 is for you! If you don’t… maybe you should go talk to someone about that.

GO FULL WALRUS – Tuskify Yourself And Check Out The New TUSK Featurette

TUSK

Director Kevin Smith’s TUSK will hit theaters next Friday, September 19. Having had its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival earlier this month, it is also screening next week at Fantastic Fest 2014.

Read The Guardian’s early review HERE. “Silly and sick, with very little blubber, Tusk, a comedy-horror about a man who is turned into a walrus, is the first great Kevin Smith film since Dogma,” and “the result is a creepy, funny film that punctures the inflated ego of the geek made good.”

Watch Smith discuss his latest movie, and how it relates to his infamous SMODCAST, in this brand new featurette.

From the singular mind of writer/director and podcaster Kevin Smith, and conceived from one of Smith’s own Smodcast’s, TUSK is a story unlike anything that has ever been committed to screen before. A tale that is equal parts hilarious and horrifying, TUSK will stay with you long after the credits roll.

The film stars Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment, Michael Parks and Genesis Rodriguez.

XYZ Films Picks Up International Sales Rights For Kevin Smith’s ANTI-CLAUS

unnamed

XYZ Films has picked up all international sales rights to Kevin Smith’s ANTI-CLAUS, a Yuletide horror film populated by the stars of Smith’s TUSK, including Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment, Genesis Rodriguez and Michael Parks.

The festive fright flick will be produced by Jordan Monsanto, Andy McElfresh and Jennifer Schwalbach for Smith’s SModcast Pictures, with Jason Mewes executive producing. XYZ Films will give buyers their first look at the project during the Marché du Film this May.

ANTI-CLAUS tells the tale of the centuries-old, devil-like creature known the world-over as the Krampus – the “Anti-Claus” of Alpine country folklore, infamous for eating naughty children during the season of giving.

“When I was a kid, if they wanted to make a Christmas horror movie, they’d stick an axe in Santa’s hands,” says Smith. “In ANTI-CLAUS, we leave Santa alone and creep with the Krampus through twisted tales of holly-jolly murder, desire, desperation and despair. Just in time for the holiday season.”

Principal photography begins in September. Explains Smith, “In America, we’re taught that nice kids gets presents from Santa and naughty kids get coal. But in countries like Germany, Austria, Bavaria, Romania and Hungary, Christmas is more metal than merry: Saint Nicholas brings a sack full of toys for good kids and the Krampus carries an empty bag for taking away the bad kids. I wanna see THAT Christmas movie. So rather than wait for it, we’ll make it instead.”

kevin smith

Robert Kurtzman, the SFX legend behind the makeup for TUSK, also returns to create the Krampus.

XYZ Films is currently handling sales for Smith’s upcoming and highly-anticipated horror-thriller TUSK, which will be released by A24 later this year. Sony Worldwide Acquisitions Group acquired several international territories at the European Film Market in February.

XYZ Films produced and is handling world sales on the recently released THE RAID 2, from writer/director Gareth Huw Evans as well as KILLERS, which is co-directed by Timo Tjahjanto and Kimo Stamboel (The Mo Brothers). They are also handling international sales on the Sundance competition film LIFE AFTER BETH, starring Aubrey Plaza, Dane DeHaan, Anna Kendrick, John C. Reilly, Molly Shannon, Matthew Gray Gubler, Cheryl Hines and Paul Reiser and the Maori actioner THE DEAD LANDS from director Toa Fraser.

WME Global is handling North American sales.

Kevin Smith’s TUSK Heads to Berlin With XYZ Films

kevin smith

XYZ Films has partnered with Demarest Films and A24 on Kevin Smith’s epic new horror film, TUSK, coming aboard to handle all international sales rights.  The film, also written by Smith and born out of one of his immensely popular SModcasts, stars Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment, Genesis Rodriguez and Michael Parks.

Demarest (A MOST WANTED MAN, MACHETE KILLS) financed and produced TUSK in partnership with New York-based distributor A24 (SPRING BREAKERS, THE BLING RING), who will release it wide in the third quarter of 2014.  XYZ will be introducing the project, currently in production, to international buyers at the European Film Market in February.

TUSK is a modern-day monster movie that follows a journalist named Wallace (Long) who finds the story of a lifetime in Mr. Howe (Parks), a worldwide adventurer with amazing tales and a curious penchant for walruses.

justin long

“It’s an honor to support the work of Kevin Smith, a filmmaker we’ve revered for years. His bold and uncompromising vision for TUSK is a game-changer and one that we know will yield a memorable film that will leave audiences breathless,” says XYZ Films.

Demarest’s Sam Englebardt commented: “XYZ Films has incredible taste, particularly in the world of horror, so we are thrilled that they will be our partner on this groundbreaking film from Kevin Smith.”

Tusk was produced by Sam Englebardt, William D. Johnson, and David Greathouse for Demarest Films and Shannon McIntosh for Smith’s SModcast Pictures banner. Jennifer Schwalbach is executive producer.

XYZ executive produced and handled international sales on the hit action film THE RAID: REDEMPTION, which was released by Sony Pictures Classics. They are also handling international sales on Sundance competition film LIFE AFTER BETH, starring Aubrey Plaza, Dane DeHaan, Anna Kendrick, John C. Reilly, Molly Shannon, Matthew Gray Gubler, Cheryl Hines, and Paul Reiser.

XYZ Films produced and is handling world sales on THE RAID 2, from writer/director Gareth Huw Evans as well as KILLERS, which is co-directed by Timo Tjahjanto and Kimo Stamboel (The Mo Brothers). Both films are world premiering at Sundance 2014. XYZ also executive produced horror film DEAD SNOW: RED VS. DEAD, which also has its world premiere at Sundance.

PAUL WALKER Sits Down With WAMG To Talk HOURS

HOURS / Director Eric Heisserer

Just two weeks before Paul Walker lost his life in a horrific car crash, I was fortunate enough to sit down with him to talk about his new film HOURS, along with four other members of the press during a roundtable discussion. This would prove to be one of his last interviews.

On a personal note: As a film writer, I have never met an actor as kind and honest as Paul. He was really excited about this project, and talked to us with delight. No pretentious Hollywood bullshit… No hidden agenda… He was excited to be there, and talked as if we’d been old friends. He gave off a friendly, relaxed vibe that was certainly contagious. I think I can speak for WAMG when I say that we are deeply saddened by the loss of Paul Walker. Our hearts go out to his family and friends.

The film centers on Nolan Hayes who arrives at a New Orleans hospital with his pregnant wife Abigail, having gone into early labor. What should be one of the happiest days of Nolan’s life quickly spirals out of control when the birth goes tragically wrong and Hurricane Katrina ravages the hospital, forcing an evacuation.

Told to stay with his child, who is on a ventilator, and await transfer by ambulance, Nolan and his newborn are soon cut off from the world by power outages and rising flood waters. When no one returns to help, Nolan faces one life-and-death decision after another, fighting to keep his daughter alive, as minute-by-agonizing minute passes, becoming unimaginable hours.

HOURS / Director Eric Heisserer

You’re dry, not contaminated?

I don’t have any chafing in weird places! No wet pants…

Number one, this is an amazing performance and it isn’t something we’ve seen from you. We’re used to seeing your physicality but not the emotional depth. I know you’re a parent so what did you tap into to almost go into this real time sense of the clock is ticking to save your child’s life?

You know I realized that. We were probably about 2/3 into the movie and it really hit me what the significance of this project was to me. It was weird the way it happened because I read it and just for page value – I was like, “Wow. It’s pretty powerful.” I was upset. I was crying. I was rooting. I was yelling at him inside. I was feeling all these emotions. I didn’t realize I was going, “It’s not about Nolan, and a baby, and this beautiful girl. This is life. And the machine is just this machine that I’ve been running for – I don’t know how long, and I’m just spinning it for what reason? I’m juggling all these balls and I’m just like Ahh.” You’re trying to make sense of it, and this stuff hit me when I was a kid. I started doing this when I was in my early 20’s. I was like, “I’m a Science guy. I’m a geek. Geology, and Botany, and Marine Sciences… and I’m supposed to be outdoors and hiking. Maybe I’m supposed to be a professional guide.” So, I fought this for years, and years, and years – but at the same time, I wasn’t stupid. I was like, “Wait a minute. I just had a child out of wedlock. Good think I’m making another movie.” I was going into Varsity Blues. I found out just before leaving, and I was like, “I could put a roof over my baby’s head, and then I can figure out my stuff.” And, I’m in this movie and I’m like, “It speaks to me” in just like a very pure and truthful level, but I didn’t realize. I was like “This is my freaking life!” This is all of our lives. You know we’re running around doing what, and just cranking this stupid machine, and we get flat backed. Something crazy happens to us, and then you look inside the box and you go, “Holy shit!”… So I was about 2/3 into the movie, and I realized, “Oh my God. This is so therapeutic.”

47a53a62-3da4-11e3-9cfe-005056b70bb8

How physically taxing was this role?

It was a walk in the park. No [Laughs]. It was funny. I had a good balance – the physicality and the emotional component… I remember getting about midday, and I’d be like, “Holy Hell man.” You’ve got like 6 hours left to go, or whatever it was.

Let me back up and say, my father was a contractor, and he made me work a different trade every summer going through high school. All of his buddies were tradesmen, and my dad was like, “Oh, they can never take skill sets away from you. That’s something you’ll always have. So, you’ll always be worth something because you’ll always be able to provide a certain service.” He was smart like that. My grandfather was smart like that too. At the end of the day you can look and go, “Oh look what I did!” Movies you don’t have that. The film goes off in a canister. Now it’s on digital chip. There’s nothing to show from it. You leave and you go [Paul makes gun fight and car chase noises]… “I said some things, and I was trying to be cool” but that’s about it. That’s all you have.

On this one, at the end of the day I was like, “Wow. That was heavy.” Like I experienced some stuff today. I felt some things. I was connected with Genesis. I love that girl, working opposite her. I fell in love with her. I don’t know. It was reinvigorating. At the end of the day, I was like, “There might not be anything to show for it but there’s something to feel for it.” So when it came to getting up in the morning to go to work the next day, I was like, “Fuck yeah!” I was ready to go.

HOURS / Director Eric Heisserer

You said that this movie is a little bit like your life and you have a teenage daughter. Is it difficult raising a teen?

Well, we’re finding our balance. She started living with me last year, and just when I was leaving to go work on Fast – and I’m doing another one now. It’s really kind of tearing on me, to be honest with you, to try and maintain the balance. And fortunately enough, we’re filming in Atlanta – but I’ve come home every weekend. Two weeks in a row, I came back three times. She just turned 15. It’s critical times. I’m big on analogies, and I look at her like she’s this rocket ship, and I’m this kind of launching pad, and I want to get the trajectory right. You know, she’s going to be my daughter and I’m going to be her dad for the rest of our lives, and I want it to be cool. I sure don’t want to be looking back and go, “Fuck! Because you were gone. Maybe. What if? And you should have been home more!” So, that’s the noise in my head right now – is trying to find the balance… and she’s super supportive and is like, “No. Go. This is what you do.” But I’m like, “Yeah, but how significant is it really? It’s kind of trivial. This is our time together. We’ve got 3 years, and then you’re going to be out of the house.” She’s like, “You’re talking like I’m going to be gone forever.” I’m like, “Yeah, but how much longer is it going to be before you show up at the door with Johnny.” She’s like, “Who is Johnny?”

Is she dating already?

[Jokingly laughs] No. No. No.

So you’ve got that to look forward to… [laughs]

We’ll see. It’s a cool time right now. We’re both just kind of finding our stride. We’re really honest with each other, which is cool. She tells me what her needs are. I think sometimes she tries to be a little tougher than I want her to be. I want her to be more revealing like, “You’re not home enough!” or “Sometimes you don’t pay enough attention to what I’m saying.” I want her to say those things ‘cause I know there’s times that I’m not… but I police it pretty well, I think.

Has she seen you in this?

Yeah, I took her. The first time I saw it I took her. It was cool to watch the reaction because I’m proud of the work that I did – because I told the truth the whole time. There was only a couple of times where there was a take and I didn’t believe it, and I would say to Eric, “I didn’t like that one. I didn’t believe it. I was trying to force something. I was just saying words.” And I remember when I was talking with my agent Teresa, she’s like, “Well how’s it going?” I’m like, “It’s going really well. I’m probably about halfway through it.” She’s like, “What’s the experience like?” And I’m like, “I don’t know. It’s good. I’m telling the truth the whole time.” I realize I told her – and it’s kind of scary too, you know. If people don’t like my performance in this, they just don’t like me, because I’m putting it all on the line in this. It’s who I am. So, at the end of it… for people… the response… I’m like, “Thank God.” I guess it means I’m OK.

cd33c2f8-3da3-11e3-893c-005056b70bb8

How much did it help your performance that this film was shot in chronological?

Huge! Huge! It played a major factor because you’re just able to carry it with you from one bit to the next. There’s no, “OK let’s go back and figure out what’s going on. I need a reminder. Script supervisor! Brenda! What happened just before this again?”. There’s none of that. You’re just running and gunning.

In that same vein, you also shot in United Methodist Hospital, which has been shut down since Katrina…

Right.

So how much does that help inform your performance physically and emotionally?

Well, what really helped was going into it – a lot of the buildings surrounding the hospital – you could really see the water line because they hadn’t repainted yet. On the inside, if you see a water line, you know darn well they took all the sheetrock off the walls, because they have to make sure there isn’t any mold. Black mold is nasty. A lot of people are sick down there with it – a lot of builders. It’s like asbestos. The asbestos fibers that’s gotten into all of the old AC guys. All these guys I grew up… my dad’s buddies, they are all messed up. That Mesothelioma stuff is very real. So, when I heard about this black mold and how it was affecting people I was like, “Oh no. It’s like that Mesothelioma all over again!”. The base of this hospital, same thing. The water level came up almost 12 feet… so the bottom level. When you go into work everyday, the reminder is the skeleton of the building. It’s reduced to just the aluminum and the steel. That’s the first floor. So, when they do get around to reinvigorating the hospital, they just redo the lower levels and buff up what they want to buff up upstairs. Basically, everything and anything… in a hospital especially. You got sick people in there! The last thing you want is mold. It’s like “Get that out right now! And then we’ll really assess further what’s going on.” I can’t help but think that they’re probably somewhat grateful that we sent in our crew because our standards. We’re going to be working in here immediately. Those guys had to go through and clean it all out… scrubbing it. I wouldn’t want that job. But, every morning getting there, it’s like, “Wow look at this.” It’s really bad. It puts it in perspective. It’s a reminder every day. As you’re going up to the second floor… third floor, which was the working floor.

HOURS / Director Eric Heisserer

You’re filming Fast and Furious 7 right now. Do you all feel life family at this point?

Yeah, dysfunctional family! Yeah for sure. I mean, we love each other. It was forced. We would have never hung out in life. Tyrese and I would have. Chris and I would have. Chris is one of the coolest people you’ll ever meet. He comes from a really solid family – Ludacris. You’d be really, really impressed by him. His perspective, and just how he sees things… He’s an old soul. He’s wise beyond his years, but singularly, you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who has impressed me more than Ludacris has. And Tyrese is just the sweetest person. He’s like a big kid. I think I’m a Peter Pan, but he’s Peter Pan on crack! Vin and I though, we’re just so East Coast meets West Coast. We have different approaches to life… and all that. We found to really respect one another, but we we’re such opposite ends of the spectrum… unbelievable. That’s why we’ve been successful, and that’s the reason why it’s worked is because we are so different. I don’t know that we necessarily found a stride together because there’s certain days I still want to crack him in the head, but he looks at me and I know there’s days he wants to crack me in the head too!

Who would win in that fight?

Uh. I wouldn’t want to tango! But there’s times where he’ll look at me and he’ll go, “Man I wish I could be more like you.” He’ll say that flat out. And I’ll be like, “Fucker. I wish I could be more like you!” It’s pretty cool. And then Jordana. I legitimately love Jordana. We met when we were little kids, you know, hanging out on the first one. I think she was only 17 years old… 18? I love her so much. And Michelle and I man, we’ve been through it all. Michelle’s like the most original person on the planet. You won’t find anybody else like her and she just calls it like it is. She’s just straight up. Uncensored all the time. “Be ready!” I love her for that.

Yeah, I can see that.

She’s dope though. She’s an original, for sure.

Was it painful for you to watch this movie? It’s pretty intense!

You know what? For me, I just… When I watch myself, I just have bullshit meter on the whole time. And I can tell when I’m telling the truth, and when I’m in the moment, and when I’m not. I can go through it… and the second that I don’t believe myself I hate it. This one, honestly… I sat down, I was like, “I told the truth. Whew!”

What should be one of the happiest days of Nolan’s life quickly spirals out of control when the birth goes tragically wrong and Hurricane Katrina ravages the hospital, forcing an evacuation.

Nolan and his newborn baby are soon cut off from the world by power outages and rising flood waters.  With his baby completely dependent on a ventilator Nolan faces one life-and-death decision after another, fighting to keep his daughter alive, as minute by agonizing minute passes…becoming unimaginable hours.

Pantelion Films will distribute the film theatrically and on VOD in the U.S. on December 13, 2013.

GENESIS RODRIGUEZ (IDENTITY THIEF) Talks To WAMG

genesis-rodriguez

The number one comedy blockbuster IDENTITY THIEF is ready to steal a space on your Blu-Ray and DVD shelf, and in support of its June 4th release, WAMG was invited out to Dodger stadium to watch star Genesis Rodriguez, who plays Marisol in the film, throw out the first pitch against the St. Louis Cardinals. While there, I got the chance to speak to her about the film. I might have also watched my home team Cardinals win. What can I say? You can take the girl out of St. Louis, but you can’t take the St. Louis out of the girl. Check out my interview with Genesis below!

Jason Bateman (Horrible Bosses) and Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids) lead an all-star cast in this hilarious blockbuster hit. Unlimited funds have allowed Diana (McCarthy) to live it up on the outskirts of Orlando.  There’s only one glitch: she’s financing her shopping sprees with an ID stolen from Sandy Patterson (Bateman), an accounts rep who lives halfway across the U.S. With only one week to hunt down the con artist before his world implodes, the real Sandy Patterson is forced to extreme measures to clear his name.

ST. LOUIS CARDINALS VS LOS ANGELES DODGERS

First off, how long did you practice that pitch?

GR: I practiced two days, about a week apart. If I made a fool out of myself, fine – but at least I tried, in my head. I don’t know what I did. I have no idea. (Laughs)

You play quite the badass in this film. How did you become involved with this film?

GR: The producers had seen CASA DE MI PADRE, and really loved it, and they asked if I would be willing to read for a part. I was like “Yeah, sure!”. I had no idea what they wanted, really, so I just kind of winged it. I came in with a super heavy accent – they didn’t ask for an accent… I came in “batshit crazy”. I remember, in my audition, I had this part where I was just talking, and I throw my things… I just went all out with it, and they were like “Ok. We really like this! You got the job!” and I was like “Ok. I had a really great time!” If I have a great time auditioning, I know I’m going to have a great time in the movie. That was the case. I had a great time. I’m not a badass. I mean, I can hardly throw a baseball for crying out loud. (Laughs) I like to be able to do that and push myself, and act, because that is total acting. I could not be like that.

You get to play around with guns in some of your films. Did you have to do any sort of training for that?

GR: I had done THE LAST STAND right before, so I had a little bit of gun training, then I jumped into this one right afterwards, so I was like “Sure. Yeah. Why not man?” They’re fun.

You’re known for your roles in soap operas. How was the crossover for you into film, and comedy?

GR: Well, I never really trained for comedy. I trained for saying ridiculous things very seriously. Like, my whole life I would have to say things like “I lost my vision” and be dead serious about it. That shit doesn’t happen! Excuse me for saying shit.

Oh no, you’re fine. I have the mouth of a sailor. You’re great! (Laughs)

GR: That was my training for comedy. To take it very seriously, and to deliver as intensely, and seriously as possible. That was pretty easy for me to do. That’s kind of what I’ve been doing in all the comedies like CASA… It was just “say ridiculous things very seriously”. This one was super intense. She didn’t even know how to pronounce her J’s (laughs) so, it was just a very easy transition.

You got to spar a bit with Melissa McCarthy in this. Did you get to improv with her, or with Tip (T.I.)?

GR: With her, no. With Tip I did. All the time. With Melissa we had to be more on book. She got to improvise a little bit more, just because of the way the story had to be told and played out.

This is his first comedic performance. He’s mostly known for his music career and his drama roles. What was your relationship with him like on set?

GR: At first I was like “How is he going to be?” because he’s this huge hip hop artist. “Is he going to be a diva? Is he going to be obnoxious? Is he not a team player?”. He was awesome. Just so easy to work with… He’s an actor! I didn’t know to how full of an extent I was ready for improv. So smart, so quick – just giving you something to feed off of. That’s what he should be doing. He should be doing more comedies. He’s hilarious.

You said you were worried about it. Have you ever had a problem with someone on set? Have you ever encountered someone being a diva?

GR: More so in my Spanish soap opera work. That was brutal. The biggest divas in the world were there. I probably had myself a diva moment there too because it was just horrible hours. You kind of get fed up. The 18 hour work days Monday through Saturday – about 7 months in you’re like “Ok, I gotta go! Let’s get this take done!”. That’s the type of attitude you start getting, but in movies it’s totally different! I don’t know. I never meet anyone like that. I certainly don’t have those feelings. It’s a Monday through Friday job, a 12 hour day – It’s pretty awesome! You get a trailer! You get to read books! You can eat candy and catering! It’s like “Dude, I don’t have to work today if you don’t want me to. I’ll wait!” I could not care!

You grew up with a singer/actor father, and a model for a mother. Do you feel like you were destined to do this? To be a part of the entertainment world? Or, was there something else you envisioned yourself doing?

GR: You know, I thought maybe I was going to be a lawyer, which is kind of acting as well. (Laughs) I was really good in school. I was in the honor program, I was in robotics, I was good in sciences… Honestly, I never took myself seriously. I never realized that I was in the public. My parents were the most humble and simple people ever. So, I never thought of myself as anything really different. I thought it was normal, what they did. I never was really interested until I took a drama class, and I realized “Holy moly! I can be different people?”. My drama teacher noticed. He never really told anyone this in class but he said “Gen, you should really consider this as a profession.” I said “I never really thought about that.” and he said “Get some training. Get some training. Go do that. I think you’ll be ok.”
